I would expect anyone who is Catholic to agree with you; those who are not Catholic might not agree with you.
I would agree with Lego, there is no such thing as “non-denominational”. To be truly non denominational an ecclesial body would have to have no doctrine, no dogma.

When you examine the groups calling themselves “non-denominational” you will find doctrine in spades. Usually Baptist and Pentecostal doctrine, none of them baptize small children or use any method but submersion.

These people are trying to pass themselves off as the only Christians to exist. Witness all the “Christian” schools, bookstores television and radio stations calling themselves “Christian only” it is very obvious that they don’t include Catholics, Orthodox or even liturgical Protestants in their definition of Christian.

That comes across to me as devisive and the opposite of Christian Unity.

To be fair, If going to the OP’s father’s service will not interfere with their Sunday obligation. It may be wise for them to go once. If they do not like it they can say they tried. and perhaps avoid a scandal. Also, it might give them a better idea where their father is coming from and tools to answer more of their fathers objections.

I find it very funny when people say that the Mass was boring. If you say that it is clear that you were physically there but not in spirit.

As for the music, The Catholic Church music is unmatched from the Gregorian to the Baroque era, Renaissance, Classical etc… 🙂 Rock music cannot even be compared to our Music at least for me.

LOL…I actually never found the mass boring, I was referencing an above poster. I do hear people say the mass is boring and I find it an interesting comment. I never went to mass to be entertained but many young people are drawn to entertainment so maybe that is the reason we hear the comment so much. They want everything in their lives to be entertaining 🤷
Their interior life (prayer) needs to be nurtured. Nothing in all the world can compare with the sacrifice of the Mass.

It’s not funny, it’s sad. People have a right to be spiritually fed, wouldn’t you agree?
If you say that it is clear that you were physically there but not in spirit.
Then someone needs to minister to their spirit.

I agree. But in all the Catholic parishes I’ve been to, with the exception of one that celebrated a tridentine mass, I’ve heard nothing but 70’s pop-folk hymns. I don’t think that’s unusual.

I agree. With the sad state of music education today, (many school systems have dropped music from the curriculam (sp)) people just are not educated in classical serious music).

The lack of trained organists or even pianists does not help either.

For many of our younger people “rock’n roll” is serious music and all they are exposed to.

And skits, rock music, coffee in church, is more entertaining. It’s just not for me. Coffee I can take or leave.
