I know there’s a thread for the Departed Faithful - but this intention is brand new.

Please pray for the soul of my father, John, who six months after losing my mother, passed away this afternoon, March 18 around 2:00 pm.

I’d been sick for over a week and unable to visit him the last couple of weeks of his life because of that.

I was at his side during his last hours today at the hospital and watched the monitor as he slowly left here to meet God. It was less hectic than Mom’s last day - for different reasons - but I don’t know if I will be suffering delayed reaction from this. I do know I have your support and ask for your prayers - for Dad, Mom and me.

Eternal rest grant unto his soul, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. May his soul and all the souls of the Faithful Departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

We cast our prayers at the feet of Christ our saviour, who has redeemed us by his death and resurrection:
  • Lord, have mercy on us.
You went up to Jerusalem to undergo the Passion and thus enter into glory:
lead your Church safely through to your eternal Paschal feast.
It was by your will that, as you hung on the cross, your side was pierced by the soldier’s lance –

Dear dear one, I am with you in prayer and in heart. I took care 24/7/365 of my mom for 2-1/2 years and was there praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet when she took her last breath on the “amen.” I am still caring for dad. You might suffer a delayed reaction…I did. I am. It’s been 2 months. But, there is no place that could be more glorious for our parents than seeing the face of Jesus. A Trappist monk once told me that they rejoice for the day that they shall pass on. They look at it as a graduation. And, truly, it is, isn’t it? We miss them. But we will see them again. And, wow, they are having a great family reunion too!! In prayer, Kathie:grouphug:
 
Conservative, my mom was baptized Catholic at 88 years of age. Her years-long complaining about her health and the length of her life just stopped. She looked forward to reception of the Eucharist, and was called home just over four months later. It was a relief to know that she was prepared to go, loved our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and was at peace. Allow your faith to inform your grief. Yes, we grieve, but we live not for this life, but for the next.
Gracious and loving Lord, look with Divine Mercy upon Conservative’s mother and father. You promised them an eternity of joy in Your presence, and we are comforted by the truth of Your promises. Grant peace of spirit and the comfort of Your embrace to their family and loved ones, guiding them as they struggle through these next days. In Your mercy, grant that this Holy Week will be not diminished, but magnified in their experience, the Resurrection having taken on a new and uplifting meaning for them. Graciously incline Your ear to hear the intercession of Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, in favor of mercy and eternal life for the departed, and increased faith for the living. Father of Eternity, may we draw upon the depths of our faith during this sorrowful and mysterious time, resting secure in Your love of us. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever. Amen! Alleluia!

The prayer is over 12 of those pairs long (about 3-4 pages). I find it’s best if you can say it with someone - I try to say it on All Souls’ Days, along with the “Yahrzeits” of people I know and care about.

My condolances. Will keep youf father in daily prayer and may The Lord of His Total Mercy grant him eternal Peace and may he bring every comfort and consolations to you and your Mom and all who grieve his passing…
