I’ve been to events where people were picketing outside and calling me names before. It doesn’t bother me. In the USA it’s called freedom of speech.
A couple hundred years ago, Catholics in USA and Ireland got physically attacked. In USA, many Catholic churches were smashed up and burned. There is also a historic church an hour or so away where the neighbors called the police because the priest led a Eucharistic procession outside and the local non-Catholics got scared and thought it was some sort of voodoo ritual.
From what I have seen, when people start telling Catholics they cannot attend Catholic church, an awful lot of Catholics suddenly get very interested in going because they get mad at being told what to do. It’s when it’s perfectly okay to attend and there are four or five convenient Masses that everybody falls off the bandwagon and goes and does something else.
