(note: I am not paid by EWTN or anyone to put in this info…just sharing)

Last month, my family and I took our second trip to Birmingham to visit EWTN and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. I highly recommend anyone making the pilgrimmage to either place. The spirituality & orthodoxy is so refreshing. I attended the Daily Mass twice, both times with Fr. Angelus as presider and I also attended EWTN Live with Roy Schoeman, author of “Salvation is from the Jews.”

The Shrine is absolutely beautiful and glorious. We were there for Evening prayer with the nuns, prior to the televised Benediction on Sunday nights. I honestly think that I had a sliver of what heaven will be like! :getholy: Another thing I noticed was how the nuns (there were a few externs out in the main congregation) genuflected. It seemed as if they were almost gently floating down to both knees and then bringing their forheads to the floor. What profound reverence to Our Lord’s presence.

Anyway, if you have had similar experiences, share them or you may ask me specific questions. God bless you!

PS: If you go there…be sure to dress modestly (no shorts, tank tops or short skirts). They have modesty clothing to borrow if you forget.

I wish it were closer, I would love to visit.
I guess I will have to settle for watching. My fav is the journey home

I’d love to go. Other people I have talked to have shared similar experiences. 👍

We made it our family vacation this year, primarily 1.) to get away to a place of quiet and 2.) due to the fact there isn’t much to do down there (touristy stuff) other than EWTN, it makes for a relatively inexpensive vacation.

I really appreciate the charity they exhibit for others who don’t think and act as they do… i appreciate the honesty, care and concern they show for all walks of life… give’em heck Mother Angelica… 👍

I wish the poll would have included ALL of the above! The Journey Home is my top favorite show, hands down. I learn so much about our faith from it.

I have also visited ETWN … it is a tremendous place to go! God Bless

I’ve voted “Mass”;
however I equally enjoy
The Holy Rosary and Mother Angelica
as well.

I wish I could’ve had more than one to choose from…the Mass being my favorite, the Rosary and Fr. Mitch.🙂

My wife, son, and I are thinking about going down there for a long weekend sometime later this summer. Are weekends just as good as any other time to visit it? How expensive is lodging down there? We’re on a tight budget.

I love that! 👍 I’ll bet it would even work on the market and bring everybody some relief. “Modesty Clothing” by God (indirectly, of course.) :yup:

I voted for Mother Angelica because without her there would be no EWTN to enjoy. My favorite programs are *The Journey Home *with Marcus Grodi, *The Web of Faith *with Fathers Levis and Trigilio, Fr. Corapi’s Catechism series, Johnnette Benkovic’s *Living His Life Abundantly, *and any program with Fr. Groeschel. I do miss Mother Angelica on the air. I imagine if I could have met Saint Teresa of Avila, she would have reminded me of Mother Angelica. Both have a tremendous sense of humor.

:amen: to all of that! And I’ll wager you that St.Teresa of Avila was at the very least tempted to lose her temper, too. Mother admits to having lost hers a time or two. Love them both!❤️

My favorite is whatever I’m watching at the time. However, I do everything in my power not to miss Journey Home and World Over Live.

But, then again, the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Web of Faith, anything with Father Corapi…

John

From what I’ve watched my favorites have included Fr Groeschel’s historic church series and the other historical programs. Call me a big kid at heart, but I really like the animated shows about the saints that they show on festival days (I dunno if they’re shown otherwise) - I’ve only seen the ones on St Nicholas and St Patrick but immensely enjoyed them both.

I like in no particular order:

EWTN Bookmark, The Journey Home, The Way to Follow Jesus w/ Tim Grey, Life is worth living - Fulton J. Sheen, Great Moments in Church History, The Last Things in Time and Eternity, Lord Have Mercy - Scott Hahn, Light of the East, The Church and Culture Today, Saints and Heros, Super Saints, G.K. Chesterton - The Apostle of Common Sense, Search and Rescue, Life on the Rock, Web of Faith, Fr. John Corapi, The World over Live, and Groeshel’s programs.

And I’m still in the Presbyterian Church.

Go figure.

The only thing that weekends don’t have is the live shows in the evening. But they still have Mass (obviously) and the chapel is open for Adoration. We stayed at the Best Western Rime Garden Inn. They have a EWTN suite price of $65/night (I think). That includes free breakfast every morning and the room has a kitchen in it, so you can make your own meals vs. going out. If you go to the EWTN pilgrimmage website, you can get the reservation info. Hope that helps!

I think their modesty clothing is elastic skirts for the women and I’m guessing baggy pants for the men. Fortunately, we did our homework before going! 🙂

Thanks for the information. One other question. My wife and I have a typically rambunctious two-year-old son. Would this be a hard place for us to go to with him? We don’t have cable or a satellite dish (we watch as little TV as possible actually), but the Mass is broadcasted on our local Catholic radio station as I drive to work. I’ve never heard any babies crying or toddlers making noises of one sort or another. Would my son be welcome to go to Mass there?

They are very welcoming of children (obviously). However, if they are fussy for a 7:00 am Mass, you may want to sit in the back pew and then step out if you need to. Or, next to the chapel (which is much smaller than it looks on TV) is a large room with more chairs and kneelers for the overflow crowd, who can then watch Mass on a big-screen TV, but still process into the chapel. That would allow your family to go to Communion as well. Also, most people genuflect prior to recieving Communion and most receive on the tongue. They also have a noon Mass that is not televised that may be more appropriate too.

However, my favorite thing about EWTN is simply that it was through EWTN that I had my first exposure to Catholicism. I was a 14-year old fundamentalist Baptist at the time I first started watching it (and attending a very anti-Catholic church). However, through the instrumentality of EWTN, the Holy Spirit led me to convert to the Catholic Church.

(One interesting detail I later discovered was that I was born one day after EWTN first started broadcasting.).
