My wife was led from being a Baptist to becoming a Catholic 15 years ago because of Mother Angelica on Mother Angelica Live. To this day she claims that she is a Mother Angelica convert.šŸ™‚

Anyway, shortly after her conversion we took a two week vacation and traveled by car from Wilmington, NC to San Diego to visit family and intended to visit EWTN in Birmingham, AL. When we got to Birmingham we were too tired to pay a visit and did a cop-out by saying we would visit on the way back. Well on the way back we didnā€™t go through Birmingham so we lost out.:crying:

Now this year we plan to travel from Detroit to Nashville to visit family and are determined to take a day or so to travel down from Nashville to see EWTN.

I must say that our pilgrimage to Birmingham early this summer was incredibly awesome! Lotā€™s of family time and time with our Lord. Marc and I and our two daughters enjoyed it tremendously. Grace, our two year old, keeps saying, ā€œwhen will we go back to the little church?ā€ The chapel is beautiful, but is much smaller than it appears on television.

And the Shrine. . . words cannot describe it!

Quite frankly if it wasnā€™t for EWTN, I wouldnā€™t know as much about my faith as I do now. This network has led me to discover Catholic authors and theologians, saints and martyrs, and it has deepened my faith incredibly. Think about, where would we have gone to learn our faith? It has truly opened the door for me. I love EWTN. My favorite shows? Too many to enumerate, but Iā€™ll give it a shot: The Journey Home because Marcu Grodiā€™s personallity is so infectious, and I draw inspiration from his guests whose various roads to the faith underscore the power of the Holy Ghost; Father Corapiā€¦heā€™s just magneticā€¦I also like Life on the Rock because the brothers are awesome and itā€™s good to see men, manly men who gave up married life to willingly and enthusiastically embrace the priesthood, Father Francis, Father Anthony et. al are an inspiration. I like all the shows on EWTN. I learn from all of themā€¦Chestertonā€¦I wish he were here today. How prescient he wasā€¦a prophet for our times. And let us not forget Father Mitch. Doesnā€™t he have the best laugh? Itā€™s so inspiring to see him so wholeheartedly live the priestly life. But all that to say, thank God for EWTN and let us continue to support them, financially and spiritually

Ack! Another poll without the responses I would choose.
Seriously, though, this is a great thread. When someone says ā€œthis is my favorite,ā€ others are encouraged to watch. My favorites change from time to time, but some of my alltime most best favorites include

Reflections (Fr. Leo Clifford)
Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Web of Faith
Anything with Fr. Groeschel
Anything with Fr. Corapi
Anything with Bob & Penny Lord
Anything with Fr. Charles Connor
Life Is Worth Living (Archbishop Sheen)

Some of my most favorite programs are on EWTN radio, but not on TV, such as
Morning Prayer & Evening Prayer
The early morning Rosary
Moments of Reparation (ā€œlittle people loving God in a big wayā€)
Reasons For Faith
Open Line
(and Catholic Answers Live, of course)

EWTN and its radio service WEWN have been like a lifeline to me. When it seemed that the Church was collapsing all around I took great solace in the solid Catholicism that is in evidence there.

Classical music, NPR and EWTN are nearly the only things I will listen to on my radio.
The live forums are my favorite topics BY FAR! Catholic Answers Live I especially like. I consider myself a very well informed lay Catholic. I had Catholic grade and high school (and a state university B.S. degree. I have read lots of history, Church and other.
While I do not personally listen much to other things than the forums, I think they serve an enormously important purpose in providing the Mass, devotions and such to people who are physically unable to attend in person. God bless.

Donā€™t you find NPR and Catholic Radio like oil in water?

I voted for the EWTN daily mass but really I have to say that Iā€™m a huge EWTN fan across the board. I am really partial to the Live shows and the other programs as well.

Another favorite is Monday evening Jouney Home with Marcus Grodi. These conversion stories are really inspirational!

This network is truly a breath of fresh air in a secular world that can stand this type of material in LARGE doses!
God Bless!

Carl

I am thankful for every program and mass broadcast on EWTN. Being disabilied there are times when I cannot attend the Holy Sacrifice for several weeks and EWTN is my lifeline during those times. There are very few programs that I will watch on other networks, and EWTN is there for me at 3 oā€™clock in the morning when sleep has eluded my night. I am a strong supporter of this fantastic ministry. May God bless them and all who provide financial support to them.

Linda, what a wonderful story! The sacrifice you are making by not being able to go to Mass regularly is going to be rewarded. You could be down & frumpy, but you choose to stick with God and his TV Network and do the best you can.

Since my choices arenā€™t part of the poll I will list them:

Life on the Rock

Fr. Corapiā€™s Lectures

Journey on Pilgrams!

Journey Home

Fr. Groschel

Youā€™ve heard of the three tenors?

Well on EWTN I love these three New Yorkers:

Bishop Fulton Sheen
Father Benedict Groeschel
Father George W. Rutler

Perhaps because I grew up in upstate New York.

And I also like many other shows including the news.
So I hope nobody is upset because their name is left out.

Really, what I like the most is the Jesus I see in them all.
I turned in my RCIA / RCIC paperwork yesterday.

:blessyou:

:clapping: Probably the only channel my television is ever on outside of some decent cartoons when my grandchildren are over. It took me so long to get EWTN and I love it.

The Journey Home ***** (Absolute favorite)
Life on the Rock****
Father Corapi****
Bishop Sheen****
The world over****
Patrick Madridā€™s show drawing a blank on the name****
The Mass with awesome sermons, the rosary, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet****
Childrens shows****
Lets face it everything is great about EWTN!!!

I recommend Dish network and DVR

You can record the shows and watch whenever you can. Also they are then available to share with the family.

I must admit there is one program on EWTN which I have trouble watching is the ā€œChaplet of Divine Mercy in Song.ā€ Itā€™s just too pop-ish for me. Chanted is OK, but the song version is not my schtick.

I just appreciate the fact that they do not get wishy-washy on issues. They give it to us straight, especially Fr. Angelus during his homilies. A good friend of mine & co-worker sometimes refers to Fr. Angelus as Col. Sanders of KFC fame šŸ˜ƒ

However, my favorite thing about EWTN is simply that it was through EWTN that I had my first exposure to Catholicism. I was a 14-year old fundamentalist Baptist at the time I first started watching it (and attending a very anti-Catholic church). However, through the instrumentality of EWTN, the Holy Spirit led me to convert to the Catholic Church.

That is totally awesome. God is good, and I think this is truly evident in the Journey Home program.

Thanks for sharing your conversion with us!
If you are here during the week and on Sundays (not Saturday), a mass is said at 11am also, at EWTNā€¦ You can sit in St. Micheals room and your child will be ok if you feel like you need a little space.
due to the fact there isnā€™t much to do down there (touristy stuff) other than EWTN, it makes for a relatively inexpensive vacation<<<
There is plenty to do you just have to know where to look. šŸ˜ƒ

I am not crazy about this butā€¦We even have vulcan the pegan god of iron up on the hill in downtown Birmingham. It is contreracted with a bust of Christ made by the same sculpter, and was displayed at the Worlds Fair. The artist that made vulcan was upset about it being a pagan god so he insisted on them placing a bust of Christ close by with it.

On 459 there is Liberty Park. The largest replica in the United States of the Statue of Liberty is there. It is awesome at night when the torch is lit.

Since you are in Birmingham, you can tour the Civil Rights museum if you are interested in history.

Out close to Shrine is the Ave Maria Grotto, Take time to go through it. A brother that was at St. Bernards there, took anything he could find and built minatures of many of the churches in Rome and Jerusalem. It is a wonder to go through.

If you like the book Fried Green Tomatoes, go over to downtown Irondale and eat at the Irondale Cafe, it is still there. It has changed hands, and is not quiet the same, but a good example of southern cooking.

There are many really excellent restaurants in Brimingham.

Also if you have a desire too, there is an antibellum home that is open to the public, that is interesting.

We also have a beautiful state park, the one can rent a cabin or camp at. If you have a mind to swim we have a wonderful swim park.

Oh well just ask and ye shall receive! :tiphat:

But honestly Mother Angelica and EWTN are the best reasons to come here. And she is getting so much better!

Also, if you have wanted to visit an Eastern Catholic Church and havnā€™t there is St. Georges (Melkite) and St. Elias (Marionite).

SO Yā€™ALL COME ON DOWN HEAR!

Whew. I like a lot about EWTN and thereā€™s a lot that I dislike.

I didnā€™t think anybody mentioned Fr. Dubay or the program on GK Chesterton. Fr. Dubay has had some interesting series. My problem is not being consistent enough to see all the episodes.

Iā€™d like to see a program where they simply read scripture for a half hour each day, perhaps with some relevant art being displayed.

I think Raymond Arroyo is a bit wordy, to say the least. He said once, on M. Angelica LIVE, that he was the ā€œVanna Whiteā€ of EWTN. ??? I donā€™t think so.

Send your comments to EWTN at viewer@ewtn.com.

I really liked the nuns singing at Mass for as long as they did. Unfortunately, the accompanying music now is rather boring.

I like Tim Gray leading the discussion of the Gospel of Mark ā€“ but why has he disappeared?

I like Fr. Groeschel, but does a priest have to be as educated as him to have as much common sense as he does? His NY background helps him to be such a communicator. His appearance on EWTN LIVE last Monday 8/9/04 was interesting.

I think they should remodel that chapel or build a new one. I told them months ago, but I guess they like those creaky benches.

And, who is that man that sits in the first pew on the left of the chapel and turns around at the beginning of each Mass? Theyā€™ve switched cameras so that you donā€™t see him doing very often. What is he looking for?

One more thing, why do they regularly have so many priests concellebrating Mass? And, on top of that, the priests and brothers, who are sort of tall, sit in the front pews and block the view of the shorter folks behind? If they revised that partition, these tall guys could sit on the sides and let the folks get closer.

During the general intercessions at Mass, why donā€™t they pray for the EWTN viewers, donors, and the intentions of those participating in the Mass at home? These intercessions are supposed to be sort of a spontaneous part of the Mass where special needs are brought up. Instead, we get a litany of politically correct intentions: the Pope, the bishops, the priests, nuns and brothersā€¦oh, and maybe the people, once in a while.
