My first Divine Mercy prayer...and question?

I had heard the Divine Mercy prayer last week on a radio show, and again at Mass on Wednesday. I was barely able to keep up, as I didn’t have a ‘cheat sheet’, and didn’t expect it after Mass. I had read about it online, but was concentrating on the Rosary since I returned 4 months ago.

I had been thinking the last few days about starting another Novena; the Holy Spirit one did wonders for me (and others!). I had picked up some pamphlets after Mass that day, and had them next to me. I picked one up, and it talked about the prayer and the Novena. I decided (by that, I mean the Holy Spirit led me) to do the Divine Mercy Chaplet Novena.

I picked up my Rosary, and sat down with the pamphlet to pray. I made it through the first set of beads okay, and the next one, my voice started cracking…Hmmm, that is strange, but kept going.

By the time I finished that third set of beads, tears were pouring down my face! I get very emotional and teary eyed during the Passion of Christ during Easter or while reading it, but that is so detailed. I was crying my eyes out by the finish. I then read the Bible, letting it open to any page, and Sirach to my rescue again, to something that had been on my mind. Right there on THE page I turned to.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Wow. This is a very, very powerful prayer, at least for me. Praises to God! Thank you Jesus, thank you Holy Spirit, thank you Father. Bless you, St. Faustina!

It is indeed powerful. And I’m going to offer a suggestion to help make it even more so. This suggestion is not my own, but comes from a priest named Fr. Larry Richards. It is simply as you pray each recitation, have in mind someone who needs God’s mercy (and who doesn’t), thereby “dedicating”, in a way, each prayer to someone you know. Awesome, huh? 😃

Father Larry Richards is one of my favorites to listen to on the radio. 🙂

Also, do people pray it more than once a day?

Pray it as often as you feel it is necessary. It is a private devotion, and as such, even though there there are traditional methods of recitation and such, you can use this devotion as it best brings you and those you care about closer to God.

St. Faustina recommends we pray it at 3:00 pm, as that is the time that memorializes the death of Jesus. I always stop what I’m doing at 3, if at all possible, to pray the chaplet.

I have been thinking of praying it at 3:00 PM Jerusalem time. I will have to see what that is locally.

Three O’Clock Prayer
You expired Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world (x3)
 
If you want to learn more about this wonderful saint who was given the devotion to the Divine Mercy read the Diary of St. Faustina. It is a wonderful work that is so meditative and amazing.

I love the Chaplet as well. It is such a wonderful devotion.

All the information is very helpful and just what I needed as well. I will read St. Faustina’s diary; I hadn’t even heard of her diary until the pamphlet, at least, how it applies to the Divine Mercy or any other prayer.
