Ah, but have you studied it on your own or with help from a Muslim cleric?

See, the more I learn of the faith on my own, the more I think that they are not 100% honest with us. I have never doubted a word that Sister Amy has said to me, but somehow, those Muslims from overseas seem to be more than willing to misdirect, obfuscate, change the subject, or whatever to keep us from knowing thier true faith.

It seems like in order to get them to tell you everything, you will have to drink the kool-aid.
On my own. and yes, even sister amy misdirects you because she is chosing to listen to clerics instead of doing her own research. She is very close to what could be considered a ‘useful idiot’. It is more reserved for the left in our country, and Europe and elsewhere such as Lebanon too.

When I first asked the question - I was talking to a Jewess. She has dual citizenship in Israel and the USA. She listened to me when I was very ignorant of what was going on, but had some personal experiences myself with islam and its violence (another story I don’t want to go into right now). She told me to read ‘From Time Immemorial’. Well, that led me to over 50 books, websites, and the koran and hadiths (I have not read all the hadiths).

When I first started I barely practiced my Catholicism - now I can be considered a practicing Catholic!! And not ashamed to say that ‘Jesus is my Savior’ to anyone anymore.

One muslim told me to seek out an ayatollah, another told me to seek out an imam. I am no one’s fool - I don’t need to see in front of my face their deception. Because that is what they are all about. I will not seek out that sort of ilk! Unless I wanted to be a spy for the USA! Now that I wouldn’t have any problem doing. But I am sure they have better than me infiltrating the mosques. That is probably how they got so many reports that they have so much hate literature in quite a number of them.

The Sword and the Prophet by Serge Trifkovic is the best book on the history and theology of Islam. He has received plenty of death threats it was published, so you know it’s bona fide. 😉 While I am personally acquainted with Dr. Trifkovic and would like you to support him by buying a new copy, I do see some available used for just a few dollars. Everyone ought to read it.

R_not, what is the ratio of Muslims living within your county/state? How many Muslims do you know live around a radius of 1km from you? Just curious.

Long story, but here it the short version. My husband is not looking to convert (or “revert” to islam) however, he wants to check it out, based on his very shallow reason, that he works with some nice muslims.

I need help.
I am not trying to hijack the thread but I have an observation to make. You picked your religion. Is it possible that his decision has nothing to do with Islam but with control? If he is an atheist why does he involve his daughter in a religion that is not the one followed by his mother?
If there is a choice to make about something that I do not know about and do not care about I just follow my wife’s decision, especially if she is strongly adamant about it. I do not go asking my neighbor about alternatives to my wife’s choice if I do not really care. The only time I do that, it is because I want to be in control of the situation (yes! I can be a jerk too :o ) and not because I really care about the topic.

I don’t know what the ratio is, but in my own area I have only seen 2 families - there could be more - more than what was here 10 years ago. I worked in Oakland and that is where more of them are that I have seen right now. I used to see them on Bart too. And to be quite honest now that I know about the growth of muslims and crime - it turns my stomach when I see them. In the East Bay, there is a larger community of them and the UC system has some ‘secret’ project with the saudis (yeah, they are the left and the ‘useful idiots’ I talked about in an earlier post) to erect some saudi school over in the Peninsula somewhere.

This secret project bothers me because the UC system is publicly funded - not all the funds, but enough that the citizenry should know about all of what is happening.

I worked with a couple of them too. One was so nasty that he ended out suing the organization that I worked for - which is the most liberal institution in the Bay ARea! THe UC system! One left and he actually used to call us every so often to say hi and see if there were any jobs open (the UC system is tightening its belt because of cut backs).

Now, keep in mind because they are so few - they are not pulling their junk yet. BUT!! The black muslims in Oakland are not so few and they have a very high crime rate - murders, theft, etc.

What you don’t know is my background - I was in the USMC and before that had a boyfriend that went to saudi arabia (worked for Aramco). He saw a beheading of a woman because she didn’t have 4 witnesses to her rape, and a person getting their hands hacked off. He saw people that the saudis didn’t care about that they would run over with their big machinery or just bulldoze over.

He was allowed alcohol on the Aramco base and that is where he became an alcoholic. One of his friends he never heard from again after he was put in a saudi jail. He ended out crashing in a car on highway 1 - he only killed himself. I know that saudi arabia really bothered him.

And then in the military my husband’s friends died in the Beirut bombing. We were stationed in Camp Lejeune during that time. My husband was then sent to that area with a duty assignment that he was not allowed to discuss. When it was later declassified he only told me that he went into some area (he still would not tell me where) and would measure the bombs that the muslims were lobbing. Now, this tells me that the muslims were lobbing bombs at Israel, and/or the Lebanese Christians for quite some time. And oh, all the wailing and whining that they are the victims is just not so. They are the aggressors. They cannot live with others. They demand that everyone else give them the freedoms - but they work on making it so as the non-muslims are victimized and eventually subjugated - if they live.

Wow, R_Not, you have seen it firsthand.

I did not realise you were a woman. 😊

Keep up the good work.

Lock him up in the basement til he gets over this insane notion.
Is he a Christian? I mean a believing ,God fearing christian?

I hope you are joking.

Also why did you reply/quote my post? I don’t see a connection between the two.

R_not, i realize you have been through alot. There are many Muslims in my country, but none of my Muslim friends hold on to extremist views. There were a few radicals who plotted to blow up our Mass Rapid Transits and other busy areas, but were immediately apprehended by the authorities. The people who tipped off the authorities were other Muslims. There is one radical who broke from prison and is still at large. That caused quite a scandal and he is suspected to be back in Indonesia now.

You will find Muslims every corner of the street, every neighbourhood, every school and at work. The majority of the them are truly nice people with no ill intentions towards their non-Muslim friends and neighbours. I do have Muslim friends that i converse with - about religion, food, lifestyle, etc. Although we disagree with one another especially regarding religion, i do have the utmost respect for them because of their ability to converse without offending me or my faith. They have even praised the Catholic community for our charity work towards Muslims and other non-Christian community.

As for the lady who is worried about her husband’s interest in Islam - you need not worry as long as you provide him with detailed explanations as to why Catholicism is better than Islam. This is exactly the reason why Catholics need to better themselves through thorough reading of the Early Church Fathers, Church History and basic theology of the Church. Start with reading from sites such as Scripture Catholic and Dave Armstrong’s Biblical Evidence For Catholicism. I know this may seem like a tall order, since Dave’s site is a heavy-duty apologetic site, but its a small price to pay to understand Catholicism.

It would also be advisable to read the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. If you do not already own a Vulgate Bible, you can visit these links: Parallel Latin Vulgate Bible with Douay-Rheims and King James Version and Latin Vulgate Bible.

Most of all, pray. Make intercessory prayers to St. Michael and St Luke and ask God to guide your husband to Truth. :signofcross:

This is answering what your boyfriend faced:

(GEN 16:11-12):
The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.

The most problematic parts of islam, for the unwilling spouse, are the requirements to raise the children as muslims no matter the mother’s objections, to take the children away from the mother if she leaves due to conversion, and to make women chattels (A state not quite property, but damned close).

If your husband is looking at conversion to islam, he is looking to a faith that has had no adjustment in the role of women in 13 centuries, and where the mainstream majority accept that women and children are property of the husband, and that mutilation of even minor criminals is appropriate, and done in public view.

Women’s rights under islam are few, and seldom enforced; under islamic traditions, a woman is an adulteress if raped with less than 4 men witnessing; her word is worth half that of a man, when accepted at all; if she leaves her husband, she must leave her children behind; if he takes another wife, she should work with that new wife, even if she was never asked.

Further, it is a religion that permits violence against all other religions, and further lacks a central authority (which authority would tend to moderate the overall praxis away from the radicals). Because of decentralization, radicalism is rampant, and the extreme views are not publicly challenged, because they are justified in Muslim Scripture.

You are most likely correct and its not a hyjack at all.
I think he is trying to get me to prove christianity to him with this challenge. The sad thing is, I don’t like his approach.

Salaam/peace

why it is problematic ? A Catholic lady told me it’s a must for them to raise kids as Catholics. So before marrying a Muslim man , she gave that condition & raised kids as Christian. Now she beleives her daughter will take her dad to heaven .
accept that women and children are property of the husband
show verse from Quran pl.
Women’s rights under islam are few
Code:
WOMEN IN ISLAM VERSUS WOMEN IN THE Judaeo-CHRISTIAN TRADITION: THE MYTH & THE THE REALITY
…there is no doubt that Islam has immensely improved the status of women compared to the Judaeo-Christian tradition. The Quran has offered women dignity, justice, and protection which ,for long, have remained out of their reach.

That’s why it is no surprise to find that most converts to Islam, today, in a country like Britain are women. In the U.S. women converts to Islam outnumber men converts 4 to 1. 🙂

The problem is that the majority of the population in the West do not know these facts. They easily believe the media’s distorted image of Islam

Just so you know Muslim Woman, I am not the least bit impressed about what one catholic woman (who married a muslim!) believes about anything.
I could never marry a non christian if I was not married already.
He won’t like a few things about Islam. He may like some.
I have asked him to write up a list of what he thinks are great attributes of the islam religion. Then, we will go from there.
I can’t imagine he will be able to come up with a single thing new that Judaism or Christianity did not already practice (that was good)🙂

well Peter, do you have a husband? 🙂
I was repying to a woman .

Hi Jean8!

I think he was confused because his quote ended up in your reply somehow.

He is an atheist by the way. (my husband that is)

**That is good, an atheist. Let him remain an atheist for some time, more comfortable, until he finds a good heaven. Let him sift through Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Bidhism etc. There is no harm as long as he is trying to find the truth.

But you please be with him all the time. Do never forsake him.

(I forgot. He wants to look into Islam. Why only Islam?)

I am just observing what my reactions would be if I were him. I would feel uncomfortable with you newly found religious fervor. I would probably feel threatened that you might end up loving someone else (God) more than you love him.

If I were you I would explain to him that you have renewed respect (respect is the critical word to use with a male) for him because he supports you in your choice to follow Christ. You will explain that because of your love for Christ you will submit to him (“submission” as in support him) in order to help him to love you as Christ loves us.

I am quite sure that your husband is ready to die for you and let him know so, that it is what you need and respect in him. Make sure to let him know that his behaviors are Christ-like when he acts as a good husband. Let him know that you need his help and that you need him to be Christ-like (to love you and to be ready to go at bat for you) for you to feel safe and part of one body (marriage).

Men want to be reassured by their wives and this is what St. Paul was talking about when he was telling women to submit to their husbands. It was not about blind and dumb obedience.
