As anyone with experience of the mormon church will tell you, her inlaws do not sound mormon. They would not use such language to describe what she said. They have a different vocabulary. Mormons have three degrees of glory and each glory is heaven. And all mormons know that we do go to one degree of glory depending on our worthiness. So her language of being saved is not what mormons use. Mormons are not born again penecostals.

Perhaps she was expressing it in the way she understood it. Who are you to say who is being honest and who isn’t?

‘And all mormons know…we go…’ Interesting choice of words for someone who claims to be Catholic. Most Catholics would have said something like ‘And all mormons believe…they go…’

So now who’s really being dishonest?

We need to get our facts straight. It seems that it is very common to repeat over and over again that no one saw the plates except JS. Not true. I must correct such mistakes. Also, as you well know, the OPs inlaws do not sound mormon at all. I have never heard mormons say such things. But that is not to say that it can not happen. But…I am a little skeptical.

This is my 1st time posting…well I came from a catholic background so therefore I do consider myself catholic…my husband is mormon but doesn’t not practice the religion…meaning he doesn’t go to his church…anyway…for years now his family has tried to convince me to convert to mormon…well I did consider it but was very disapointed when they were comparing their religion to others…how their church is “the true and only church”…how if anyone is not sealed in the temple they would not be allowed to enter the kingdom of heaven? I have asked myself why they think they are soo sure they are saved? Why do they think their religion is superior of all others?( of course they do some major trash talking about these other religions , don’t want to get into details) Wouldn’t only GOD know these answers?? I have only kept my mouth shut since I really don’t know what to reply to such ignorant people??What are your thoughts ?

Hi and welcome! That should have told you right off the bat. Where in the bible does anyone have the right to tell anyone they are or are not going to heaven. That in itself contradicts scripture. God is the one and only judge, and the bible says we will be judged by God and he and only he will decide who gets in and who doesn’t. The Church teaches that in order to get to heaven you must be Baptised and eat the body and blood of Christ. Not go to the Mormon Temple. You must accept Jesus Christ as your savior,

Next thing, they do not even go to church at all? Whats up with that? I would not worry about it, Stick to your roots, and go back to the teachings of the church. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you. I promise you everyday Pray Dear Lord please show me the way! He will

If I posted under a different screen name you would be surprised just what a good catholic I could be in my posts.

Maybe so and like I said, she could have given it her own interpretation which would have been wrong. As you know in mormon doctrine one must be married in the temple and be faithful to the gospel to inherit the highest degree of glory in the celestial kingdom. But many without the temple marriage will also be in the celestial kingdom. And many will inherit the other two kingdoms of glory. Very few will be in hell or outer darkness.

I agree. But as you know, many people have challenged my own credibility when I posted as Mormon and catholic. How often was a challenged? Quite often. We can not say that only certain people will be challenged who are not catholic in our opinion but catholics will not be challenged. It is not fair.

Study, study, study…First strengthen your knowledge of your faith. Study the CCC. Study the history of the Church. Second understand what you’re dealing with. Read up on Joseph Smith and the history of the LDS church. There are lots of books and web sites available.

My understanding of LDS doctrine is that there are three degrees of kingdoms in the afterlife - celestial, terrestial and telestial, along with the Mormon hell, the “outer darkness”. The highest level is the Celestial, and the highest level within THAT kingdom is exclusive to couples who are sealed in a Mormon temple. If you’re not sealed, you’re not going to be in the highest level of the highest level. That’s all that means. This seems to cover most of it:

Notwithstanding the “exclusive club” members-only mentality that the Celestial kingdom represents, in the LDS system, I think there’s a general assumption that only the hard-core reprobates will choose to go to the outer darkness, and that for all intents and purposes, if you’re in one of the three kingdoms, you’re “saved.” It appears to me as if it is a modified form of Universal Salvation, with proxy baptism and sealings making the LDS message known and accepted by virtually everybody (theoretically).

( Of course if Mormonism is not true, then all of this is a fiction… )

Claudiava: Your in-laws see it that their son is not married in a mormon temple and therefore will not become a god. He is not sealed to you, so therefore you will be separated from each other in heaven, and, you will be separated from God the Father.

Of course your in-laws work hard at converting you, for the reason that if you would just “get on board”, their anxiety over this would go away. (It can put tremendous pressure on you to conform.)
