I am a little skeptical of your post because you are not using Mormon terminology, terminology that your husband and his family would use.
Sorry if I am skeptical of your post and of your experience.

But the poster did not use mormon vocabulary. She used very born again penecostal terminology. I am just a little skeptical of the post.

They would not use such language to describe what she said.
So her language of being saved is not what mormons use.

Well, her inlaws do not sound mormon to me. Since when would a mormon say that if one is not married in the temple they would not go to heaven?

the OPs inlaws do not sound mormon at all. I have never heard mormons say such things. But that is not to say that it can not happen. But…I am a little skeptical.

But the OPs inlaws did not sound mormon and you know that too.

Post #
But the OP said things that were not mormon doctrine at all such as if one is not married in the temple one can not go to heaven. I am a skeptic to be sure.

she could have given it her own interpretation which would have been wrong. As you know in mormon doctrine one must be married in the temple and be faithful to the gospel to inherit the highest degree of glory in the celestial kingdom.

It is not fair. :whacky:

As anyone with experience of the mormon church will tell you, her inlaws do not sound mormon. They would not use such language to describe what she said. They have a different vocabulary. Mormons have three degrees of glory and each glory is heaven. And all mormons know that we do go to one degree of glory depending on our worthiness. So her language of being saved is not what mormons use. Mormons are not born again penecostals.
I didn’t know I had to be politically correct…I was told by my inlaws and missionaries that Mormons believe that there are different “levels” in heaven? These are the Celestial kingdom, the Terrestrial kingdom and the Telestial kingdom. so, does that mean we will be judged according to our works and therefore, each one of us will be judged differently??. Even if two people both live good lives, they will be judged differently and therefore receive a slightly different level of glory?? Sorry if I’m not using mormon terminoligy!! I’m not mormon…😉

I am a little skeptical of your post because you are not using Mormon terminology, terminology that your husband and his family would use. Mormons never talk about being saved or seen in heaven. But they do mention the celestial, terrestial or celestial kingdoms. But being saved is not part of their vocabulary. Also, no mormon would ever say that only those who are married in the temple are going to heaven. But they would say that those who are married in the temple and who remain faithful will inherit the highest degree of glory.

Sorry if I am skeptical of your post and of your experience.
In regards to my so-called terminology that would be correct if I was mormon myself but considering I am not it brings me to my point which is why I am here in this forum discussing certain issues that I have personally come across with my husbands family and do not understand. I use the term “saved” in the sense that any other religion uses it and that is to basically earn your way up to heaven. Now you say they earn the “highest degree of glory”!..that to me says you have earned the glory of heaven which in other terms says you are "SAVED"saved from hell in other words…either way this discussion is pointless for I wasn’t discussing the proper terms in which to use in explaining the term saved…I was merely stating what I have heard in the past and that if I’m married and entered into the temple and sealed I and my husband have earned the so-called highest degree of glory…“saved”…lol…and why is that?..meaning where in the bible does it state I need to be sealed in a “temple” to earn the right to be with my heavenly father…but in your case the so-called celestial kingdom blah blah blah…I’m sure you have your reason why you believe certain things in your religion but the simple fact is that it all boils down to FAITH!..no matter what religion you practice…Good day 👍

Greetings everyone

This is my 1st time posting…well I came from a catholic background so therefore I do consider myself catholic…my husband is mormon but doesn’t not practice the religion…meaning he doesn’t go to his church…anyway…for years now his family has tried to convince me to convert to mormon…well I did consider it but was very disapointed when they were comparing their religion to others…how their church is “the true and only church”…how if anyone is not sealed in the temple they would not be allowed to enter the kingdom of heaven? I have asked myself why they think they are soo sure they are saved? Why do they think their religion is superior of all others?( of course they do some major trash talking about these other religions , don’t want to get into details) Wouldn’t only GOD know these answers?? I have only kept my mouth shut since I really don’t know what to reply to such ignorant people??What are your thoughts ?
This is for WHYME…and whoever else thinks I’m not using the correct mormon teminology…

Stand your ground.

If you don’t want to convert, just simply tell them that you cannot/will not convert, and that you would appreciate not discussing it any further.

If they persist, Let em have it!!

😃

Claudiava:

I think you’ve got it.

This reminds me of a wedding I went to this past weekend. The minister is a member the FLDS, who practice polygamy. The couple getting married are not LDS, of any form, just this guy is a friend of the family so they asked him to marry them.

At the wedding I leaned over to my daughter and said, “The guy that married them is polygamist.”. She didn’t miss a beat, “Oh, so that was sealing.”**

Yes…I have been to their church plenty of times and till this day I am not convinced especially when they are being so judgemental about my catholic faith…I will try to live an honest life and believe in Christ… thank you and everyone soo much for the support…😃

LOL…oh my…may I ask you a question? What is the difference between FLDS and LDS?? do they both follow the book of mormon??

Mormonism has many splinters. After the death of Joseph Smith, the group of people who followed Brigham Young are those we now call LDS. This group practiced polygamy.

When the US outlawed polygamy, Brigham Young was forced to end the practice of polygamy in the LDS church. LDS believe it was ended by a revelation from God. At this time those who did not accept this revelation split off from the LDS.

The main split off are the Fundamental LDS, who still practice polygamy. Further groups have split from them and a few former LDS have fired up their own religions that include the practice of polygamy.

There are also tens of thousands (estimated) practicing Mormon polygamists who are not members of the LDS or FLDS churches. My daughter works with a boy who’s parents are polygamist. They live like everyone else, in the suburbs of Salt Lake, and you wouldn’t know they are polygamist unless they told you. The FLDS are obvious, in their manner of dress, and they live the “united order”, which is a communal-style of life.

All these different Mormon sects follow the BoM.

Eh, Christians say that because I do not follow their God I will go to hell. Muslims say that because I do not follow their God, I will go to hell. If I don’t worship Shiva, I will be rebirthed in a poor state. No matter what you are, someone will tell you that you’re going to face adversity for not following their religion.

This is not Catholic teaching. 🙂

Study, study, study…First strengthen your knowledge of your faith. Study the CCC. Study the history of the Church. Second understand what you’re dealing with. Read up on Joseph Smith and the history of the LDS church. There are lots of books and web sites available.

Good luck to you.
Hi and thank you…I am in the process of studying more about the CCC…Also so far what I have read about Joseph smith was that he was the first Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith was arrested and convicted in New York and was found guilty of being a con-artist, an impostor – he was a necromancer and a charlatan. This conviction was four years before he published the Book of Mormon! Court documents prove he was a convicted criminal…
and had 24 wives whom their are records of him being married to… So far I don’t think I have any further interest in reading up on him or the origin of the book of mormon which I think Joseph smith was the author of…
Thanks again for the support…😃

About who is going to hell…the most explicit statement of who is going to hell is found in Vatican II documents…in the least amount of words…Catholics who do not practice charity in spite of following all the church rules.
