I am a little skeptical of your post because you are not using Mormon terminology, terminology that your husband and his family would use.

So her language of being saved is not what mormons use.

Well, her inlaws do not sound mormon to me. Since when would a mormon say that if one is not married in the temple they would not go to heaven?

the OPs inlaws do not sound mormon at all. I have never heard mormons say such things. But that is not to say that it can not happen. But…I am a little skeptical.

she could have given it her own interpretation which would have been wrong. As you know in mormon doctrine one must be married in the temple and be faithful to the gospel to inherit the highest degree of glory in the celestial kingdom.
