My Mother is now making me leave the Church

Since your mother is now permitting you to go to Mass, I think you should just go to Mass, quietly study your faith, and keep your mouth shut about religion until you are old enough to be on your own. And always show love and respect to your mother.
This. She is no longer threatening to ground you, so don’t cause any more trouble. When you are out on your own and no longer depend on her, then you can have these conversations…but, again, keep it respectful. You can disagree without fighting.

My young friend,
You are inspiring in your zeal to remain devoted to our Catholic faith! Do not worry about your family stripping you away from Jesus. I was once non-denominational. I wish someone would have explained the real meaning to many of the Catholic beliefs, a long time ago. Many of them are not opposed to God, they love him more than many Catholics! Find the genuine ones, and you will find Catholics.

Yes, it is important to go to Mass. Yes, the non-Catholics have different interpretations of the Word. We all do, that’s why we submit to a body of the faithfull. That’s why we receive the Lord’s body and blood! Because it cannot be made into our image of who we think Jesus is. It is Him, unfiltered. So, talk to your priest about bringing you Eucharist because of your situation. Then go to the other church. You can be a witness to others around you. But never forget that you must speak through the Spirit of love. The Lord does not speak through His children outside of love.

Consider your situation a blessing from God!
Michael

Since several people have mentioned this topic…

The Bible says, “Honor your mother and father”. We must honor them. It is not dishonoring your mom to obey God in all things. Give your mom the respect that a mother deserves. Speak to her kindly even when she speaks against the Catholic Faith. Listen to what she says and kindly disagree. There is nothing sinful about attending a protestant service on top of the Catholic Mass. Do NOT partake of protestant communion. Obedience to God sometimes means disobedience to men (even parents). It is possible to stand firm for the Catholic Faith while respectfully refusing to compromise.

Acts 5:29 But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men.

Matthew 10:34-35 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.

Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

I am not at my GrandMothers non denom Church, I have to pass our fliers for people to visit this church and wear a T shirt with the Church’s name on it. I feel so sick 😦 I have to do this because we are doing charity work and my Grandmother asked me to come, I didn’t think it would be this extreme with many ex roman Catholic pastors and members.

I am sorry. 😦 Maybe you could wear a Crucifix and hold a Rosary while doing this?

I, like, Zekariya, believe you need a crucifix to wear. Try to keep your opinions to yourself. I am not always good about that myself. What I find very useful with my anti-Catholic mother is just not to talk with her about the Church or even what went on at Mass. Be prepared to answer why you are a Catholic if asked.

Being an adult has its privileges. I took my elderly mother a couple of times to her Baptist church because she cannot drive. The associate pastor there made anti-Catholic comments. So Mom is now not going there unless she takes a cab. That is my choice, as an adult.

As a minor, you still should go to Mass, but attending the non-denominational church is okay.

A comment to the posters who refer to the OP as a “child.” When I was sixteen my parents left me alone for about a week while they went on vacation. None of the neighbors complained about it. Nothing bad happened. That was about 40 years ago before we had all these helicopter and bulldozer parents.:dts::dts:

Promoting it? Like come join this the community? Oh oh…

Perhaps something like this:

“I love you and I love Christians in other communities but please understand that to do this promotion would go against to my conscience …please understand it is not out of any disrespect for you or for anyone …”

This you can easily say that you cannot do. The Church commands that you do not engage in such activity that is damaging to the Church. The fact that there are ex Roman Catholics show that it is indeed damaging to the Faithful and the Church.

So you can tell your mother that you cannot do that because the Church advises that you do not engage in such activities. You can also point out that as a Catholic, you must not disobey the Church.

I just went. We just helped many poor people and I made many new teen friends that are young christians. I think I may begin to visit on Wednesdays to see them everyweek since I was invited.

I think this is very dangerous. Is it not the case that they deny the True Presence of Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist? Association with heretics ought to be minimized. Just my personal advice on the matter.

Even though you be forced against your will to not attend the Catholic Church, remain in the Catholic Faith. Continue to live and follow our Catholic Faith even amongst persecution. Try to partake of the Sacraments whenever it is possible to do so. Study the Faith and practice it no matter what people do to you. Hang in there. You have friends to pray for you. 👍
very well put 🙂

A venial lie is better than missing Mass and going to a protestant service, which would be mortal.
Not all 16 year olds can drive and I imagine that her mother and grandmother would be going to the Protestant church that OP is being asked to attend. Therefore, making your suggested lie impossible.

OP, I do have one suspicion as to why your mother is concerned. Think about your words with non-Catholics. Are you tending to try to convert people in an extreme way? For example, very vocally telling Protestant friends that they are heretics and need to repent of their ways? This is not a good method if this is the case. It is okay to be subtle and bring up what you believe here and their to non-Catholic friends, but it is not necessarily helpful to constantly shove it down everyone’s throat.

Im just upset I have to leave Catholicism
I recommend that you speak to your priest. You are under age and shouldn’t lie to your mother or take the car without permission. What you can do however is see if you can continue to attend Mass while also going to services with your family. Your priest should be able to help you explain the faith to your family. We always need to reach out in love and telling your grandmother and other relatives that they are heretics is not helpful. Your goal now needs to be to keep peace so that you can continue receiving the sacraments as often as possible. If you were a minor in a catholic family who wanted to attend baptist services say, the advice would be that you are required to attend with your family. Do not alienate your family in the reverse situation because there is no witness in that.

To be quite honest, some of the responses in this thread are very troubling to me.

I am not a parent, but I could be the OP’s mother, and if my child came to me and told me a bunch of people on the internet said I was leading her to sin, not only would they be grounded, but it would be a long time before I let them near a computer again!

BVMFatima, please make an appointment with your priest, your sponsor and your mother. Listen to your mother’s concerns, treat her with respect and follow the guidance of your priest. I am sure there is much more going on here and it is really not fair to your mother or grandmother for anyone reading this not to hear their side of the story.
I guess I’m the only one who thinks the OP may be a troll. But ALL of this is quite troubling. The OP, as well as the responses.

How am I a troll? I am being honest 100%, why would I troll for? I never trolled these threads ever in my life. But if you want to consider me a troll then fine, but that’s your opinion. I will not argue.

God Bless,
BVMFatima

I agree; and no, you’re not the only one.
Thanks for helping. 👍 I really appreciate being called a troll. What’s the point of a forum where you can’t even ask for advice on how to stay strong? I mean my goodness.
Infact, if you still don’t believe me you can go through my threads and see where I asked for advice since I am the only Catholic in my family of Anti Catholic Protestants. But hey believe what you want, right? God Bless you though.

Love always,
BVMFatima

Dont worry bro,
Just be patient and dont take offense. Certain threads get lots of attention. Sometimes there are trolls. I think some of the answers have been on the strong side of calling your church heretics. This is not true. You are young. You are making a stand early in your life, and seem passionate. It has elements that could be viewed as troll behavior. That is to set up the false scenario and then blast accussations. Just be patient with these suspicions. Some people have given alot of effort to threads to only reveal biased trolls with bad intentions. Stay focussed on the good.

Peace,
Michael
