I’m a male by the way lol! But I’m just so confused. I just don’t know what to do to be honest. I’m sorry for causing debate among all of you, I just need some advice.
The only advice you need is to go to the priest who allowed you to convert, and ask him to help you. You should probably also meet with your mother, the priest and your sponsor so that all of these issues can be resolved. That will not happen on an internet forum.

This is heresy. The idea that one is bound to obey sinful commands is heretical. Please quit spreading this heresy on a Catholic forum.
And this is irresponsible as well as false. When he grows up and is on his own he can do what he wants. Under his mother’s guardianship, he best do as he’s told and buck up. If I were his mother and saw this ludicrousness, I’d ban him from Catholicsm. This is not what Catholicsm is about.
Catholicism is the only true religion. You have no business leading the OP into mortal sin.
You have no business encouraging a minor to disobey his parents.
It is a duty to disobey evil commands.
HIs mother is not evil, nor are her commands. She is not Catholic, and he is still a minor under her guardianship.
Since it is a moral obligation to be Catholic, minors can not be excluded from conversion.
That is false, minors can, and are, excluded from conversion if their parents are opposed. And that’s the way it should be until there is a commitment, not opposed by a minor’s parents, to follow through on one’s commitment to be Catholic.

That you would persecute him only reflects negatively on you.

Quit spreading legal positivism on a Catholic forum.

I didn’t say his mother was evil.

  1. I think some of you misunderstood or I misworded, but this is not my Mother’s church but my Grandmothers Church. I mother wants me to go because of the youth group now. She at first said that I was following too many rules of Catholicism and I was called an extremist by her because I said I would myrter for the faith. I discussed that with her and everything is at peace now, however now she wants me to attend the Protestant youth group and I am not comfortable with that because they share beliefs that contradict Catholicism. Some of the kids even asked why am I even there since I’m Catholic. (Not in a rude way though).
God Bless you all!

Thats why I think it would be cool to witness to them. God will use your obedience and honor for your mother, for His purpose. Fear and the love of Religion is the Spirit of those urging you to disobey her. But not entirely. Devouchristian is not bad in all he/she is saying, because there is a time to obey God and a time to obey your parents. This does not have to be a one or the other situation, at least at this point. You can go share your faith with the genuine ones you meet. You can learn what they believe. Some may have great faith! Our Father is with you. He will give you confirmation with signs. Look around for them.

Michael

I’ve only urged BVM to disobey her in matters of sin (which seems not to be a problem anymore). And yes, religion (giving God what justice demands) does cause one to put God first.

Hmm. How do I respond to my mother who says " all religions are equal and religion divides people?"

Shortly after I became Catholic, i was invited to help an evangelical free church youth group. I did. I appreciated the youth pastors love and ministry to the youth. I learned where they departed from the doctrines of the Church. I spoke with the pastor in private. I did not disrespect him and teach the children Catholicism. It was not my place. But soon after, I realized i had to move on.

You dont have any obligation to hold your toungue. I would use wisdom, but by all means say what the Spirit is telling you. But say no more than that! Be wise and keep your council. Be reserved but speak when the Spirit moves you. This means, let there be someone who you see a genuine faith that will recognize Our Father in your words. Be glad for this opportunity. Do not be overwhelmed with anxieties. Give those to Jesus. He is the only one who can overcome them.

God be with you
Michael

The Church rejects the idea that Protestantism is salvific. It is Love to oppose grave error.
Actually, the Church teaches that there is a possibility to be saved outside of the Catholic Church, but that Protestants do not have the whole truth.

The Church teaches that only those who are innocent in ignorance can possibly be saved. Those who leave the Church knowing it’s the truth cannot be saved due to mortal sin.

I don’t know if you saw what I posted earlier here, but I have been in the same position you are in now. Please read my response if you haven’t seen it. If you have read it, then sorry for drawing attention to it if it wasn’t helpful. I will pray for you.

Right, an issue for you, but not you mother, grandmother, teens attending your grandmother’s church, etc. However, in order to have mortal sin occur, you would need to be in complete control over the situation, which as a minor you are not.

BVMFatima, firstly I want to point out how impressed I am with you. For a 16 year-old, you are truly well-formed in your faith. You are far better informed and catechised than I ever was at your age, and I truly thank God for looking after you.

I recognise your concerns regarding the pressure on you to leave the faith. I’m afraid I have nothing new to add here. Like the others, I encourage you not to leave the Church or its sacraments, neither should you attend a non-Catholic church to make up for it. As an Asian, I recognise the important role of strong family ties, but we must remember that although we are called to honour thy father and mother, it does not mean that we must obey them in every single thing, especially when it calls us to sin (in this case, leaving the Church that Christ founded). Similarly, even as we remain faithful and loyal to the teachings of the Church, we mustn’t stop it from respecting our parents.

In this case, I feel that your mother may be being the exclusivist one here. Perhaps you could tell her that if it truly was about Jesus, then she should not be concerned about whether you attend the Catholic Church or not. You could also tell her that your faith in Christ our Lord has been deepened immensely in the Catholic Church, far more than any non-denominational congregation could ever do. Perhaps you could tell her that removing you from the Catholic Church would disrupt and interfere with the deep relationship you have with God right now, and the sense of community with 1.2 billion fellow Catholics around the world. Perhaps you could even use this as an opportunity to educate her about the original Catholic faith. Of course, we should avoid using strong words like ‘heresy’ which would get non-Catholics all huffy and emotionally charged about Catholic supremacy. 😃

I also suggest that you should ask your priest for his assistance in this issue. A strong, orthodox priest would be able to give you advice and even mediate with your mother, to get her to soften her stance. Who knows, he might even be able to finally convince her that the Catholic Church is truly the Church. Also whatever happens, do not disrespect your parents. Despite all this tribulation, they are still your father and mother, who have born and raised you.

I again exhort you not to leave the Church and attend the Protestant church, despite your mother’s pressure. The Protestant church are our fellow Christians, but they are no substitute for the true faith which you have found. Many saints have undergone persecution because their society hated or misunderstood them for their fervour in the Catholic faith, and tried hard to convert them to their own way of thinking. Pray to them for their intercession in this time of need.

I will pray for you. 🙂

And thus as I said, Protestantism is not salvific.

Please stop trying to proselytize BVM away from the faith.
