“eeeeeeEEEEEEEEE!!!” = crotchrocket

“potata potata potata potata” = Harley

If it happens again call the cops.

Yes. As of July 1st this year , in Florida it is mandatory. The course my friend took cost a pretty penny (I want to say over 100 dollars for 2 full days, but I am not absolutely certain), and they required her to have full gear (helmet, gloves, armor jacket, raingear, boots, etc)… Wearing a helmet is not a requirement under Florida law, but just know that if he chooses not to, he MUST have at least 10,000 dollars in insurance in case he gets injured in an accident.
Really. Okay…this is good to know. Sobering to know, actually.😃 Thanks.

If they’re basically nice but clueless, I’d talk to them first. If I was concerned about retribution, I’d call the police and let them handle it.

A buddy of mine got a Harley a few months ago (supposedly for the gas mileage, I think it’s a mid life crisis thing:p ). He said he used to HATE those loud bikes going by his house. Now he says he feels like a hypocrit b/c he’s one of them.

I second Whatevergirl’s suggestion of earplugs. I wear foam ones from Wal-mart and I completely missed Hurricane Ike’s visit to the Ozarks. They would definitely block out any loud street noises.

Don’t call the police unless there is a serious shooting or something.
Never EVER call the police for noise. The police will turn on YOU. They will side with the noise producer, both will stand in your kitchen and wonder how come YOU are so-o-o sensitive. Then the noise will get tons and tons worse. Not just at 3, but 24/7/365. Guaranteed.

People like this are not just clueless. They have a problem with authority and also their own self image.

If you are not a psychiatrist, then don’t bother trying to make them change. They never will…by asking politely or by calling the police.

Eat the noise. Have your baby. Get the house ready and then move to a better neighborhood. That is the only way.

This is a man to man conversation - ask your husband to go speak with the male neighbor - “hey, please keep the bike down after 11 PM. Wife and kids are sleeping.”

Woah.

Wow.

All-righty-then.

The police comment is odd – I have never, ever had police show up in my house on a noise complaint and ask why I was “sensitive.” I have never heard of such a thing. I don’t know where you live – or if you possibly abused the calling the police for noise scenario – but this isn’t even reality. Maybe if you call fifty times a month – sure. But once? The cops will show up and tell them to turn off the bikes.

People like this are clueless and have self-image problems? Wow, did you meet her neighbors? That’s a pretty big judgement on people we don’t know. Bold, intrusive, and overtly-trusting maybe…but self image problems? That’s a leap. Oh yeah…the tattoos. Of course.

"If you are not a psychiatrist, then don’t bother trying to make them change."

Psychiatrists can’t change people. People change themselves. Sometimes a psychiatrist can help instigate or encourage change, but they don’t literally do it for people – so even if she were a psychiatrist she couldn’t change them – and I don’t think she wants to change them. She just wants them to know she needs her sleep and ask them not to rev those bikes at 3AM. 🤷

BeeSweet you don’t have to move – that’s silly.

Follow Kage’s advice and have your hubby go chat with the fellow across the street.

We have Harley riders in our neighborhood. A couple of them. The guy across the street has his biker buddies over first thing in the morning for coffee. I’m already up so I don’t care – and they are the nicest guys. There is a guy who lives around the corner who goes to work at about 5AM, and his bike is uber loud. I completely tune him out now – can’t even hear it – but boy do my over-night guests get irked! LOL

If it is 3AM and he does it again after the talk – just call the police.👍

From my experience, most bikers are people who love kids. They would not do anything to knowingly hurt a child.

We live in a resort town that is very popular with bikers.

When we were standing by the road praying a the Life Chain, every biker who came by gave us a big 👍 .

Okay then, don’t take words of experience. I’ve learned the very hard way…you don’t call the cops on a neighbor ever unless there is something really serious like a shooting. For some reason, the world all rallies around the the offender and the victim is singled out as being the “troubled” one, the one who should mind their own business, the one etc. Even the thread poster said much the same. She said her one set of neighbors called on HER when they were just playing music and having a beer. Right away she said that the callers were anal and picky.

Trust me on this, I know what I’m talking about .
Get the house ready and move if you can’t stand the noise. It does absolutely no good for you to make any complaints about other’s actions. One complaint means much more offense than before. Two complaints and they are throwing rocks. Three complaints and your kids can’t even walk outside…because YOU are the one that is PICKY and CAN’t fit in with the way the world SHOULD be according to the offenders.

The cops won’t do anything. They’ve been through this a million times and find that it is just best that the complainers get fed up and move.

Reminds me of a joke I heard: someone called the police about something, but was told that the police didn’t have anyone available to come over. So the person called back indicating that someone was shot in the back yard and the body was there. Immediately ten squad cars rushed over. The police asked the caller: “I thought you said there was a shooting here” to which the caller responded “I thought you said there wasn’t anyone available to come over”.

However, loud noise at 3AM IS a serious matter as it is affecting the health of someone. Did you ever hear of “disturbing the peace”? And if the police don’t do their job, this could very well escalate into a shooting situation.

The idea that the innocent parties should move is, to be point blank, retarded.

OP: document every instance. Videotape it if possible.

. She said her one set of neighbors called on HER when they were just playing music and having a beer. Right away she said that the callers were anal and picky.
Hey… they are anal and picky!😛 My landlords live on the other side of us, and they didn’t hear a thing that night!!

I’m actually inclined to believe that the 3 AM racket was most likely friends of the Harley driving neighbor rather than the neighbor himself. When it’s just him, he’s not such a nuisance, but when his buddy comes over, it’s as if they’re a couple of monkeys shaking trees to show off who’s bigger…

I have their cell phone #'s, so I’ll just call if I have to in the middle of the night next time.

And for the poster who suggested my husband talk to him… my husband slept through hurricane Ike. 🤷 He didn’t hear a thing, and wouldn’t want the neighbor with the cool Harley to think he wasn’t cool by complaining about the noise…

Did you ever see that episode of Sex and the City where Samantha moved into a new apartment, but then discovered late at night, a couple of transvestite “women” were regularly being loud below her bedroom window? Sam opened her window and politely ask for the “girls” to keep it down as she had a heavy work day following. Well, big mistake. The noise got louder and more frequent and then the eggs were flying and the water was being dumped. At the end of the show, Sam decided if you can’t beat them, join them…she had a loud all night party and invited the “girls” to the affair.

Well, I guess I have been living my life all wrong since I don’t model it after episodes of Sex and the City:rolleyes::p:D

**But seriously, just because YOU had a bad experience doesn’t mean it’s the norm or even likely for the OP. **

But you are not the only person on this forum who has called the police for something like this. I’ve called the police numerous times for “quality of life” offenses, and the police have never retaliated against me. In fact, they never even asked for my name when I called.

There is a women in my neighborhood who goes a little overboard when calling the police for noise complaints. It’s gotten to the point where I can hear the dispatcher making snide comments about her over my scanner radio, but the police still respond to the complaints in a professional manner.

The main danger when you call the police is that the criminals saw you looking out the window and they can figure out who is calling the police. This can set you up for criminal retaliation later, if you’re not careful about it.

Oh, and our complaints HAVE effected positive change in our neighborhood. For 6 months, a group of teenagers would gather on the street corner, selling drugs, getting drunk, fighting, and playing loud music. After the residents of our neighborhood presented the case to the police, the police began to urge them to move along, and now our street is much more peaceful. No small feat in one of the most dangerous regions in the DC area.

Those are my “words of experience.” “Trust me on this, I know what I’m talking about” indeed…
