Okay, guys. Found a source for a vinyl cover for the new MTF DRM:

These folks work with a lady who makes the vinyl missal covers like the ones for the Tridentine missals, but they don’t have the missal covers for MTF listed on their site. You have to contact them, and they will have her make up one for your DRM. It’s similar to the slip-on vinyl ones for the Latin books. That’s exactly what I wanted. I just needed something to protect the book from the elements during the sprint from the parking lot to the church in our famous New York State weather! I imagine if this lady is making small quantities, they will be a little more expensive than the mass produced ones that they have for the Tridentine books, but it’s worth it to protect my investment in the missal itself.

They also sell additional ribbon marker inserts that slip into the spine of the book, if you’re ribbon-challenged.

You can keep the ribbon ends from fraying by quickly flaming the cut ends through a match or lighter flame. Move the ribbon end through the flame fast. You just want to slightly melt the very end of the ribbon, not actually cause ignition.

I recommend the strap for “Closure Style”. It’s worth the extra $5.

I don’t remember how many times I read this instruction in the missals I’ve seen but true to form, the DRM says:
“The bold-face type clearly identifies the parts of the Mass with responses by the congregation, with the light-face type indicating the priest’s or the reader’s part.” [DRM, 6th edition, p. xix]

–and–

“Within the Order of Mass, the boldface type clearly identifies the parts of the Mass to be sung or said by the congregation, and the lightface type identifies the parts proper to the bishop, priest, deacon or lector.” [DRM, 7th edition, p. xix]

I had not paid any attention to the fact the words of consecration in all the Eucharistic Prayers printed in the 6th edition are in bold-face type. It never occurred to me to recite these sacred words along with the priest. That they were bolded simply emphasized their grave importance.

When I saw these same words simply capitalized in light-face type in the current volume, did I realize this simple uintended oversight in the previous edition.

Anyone else catch this??

I didn’t catch it because I only have the current (I’m assuming seventh) edition. It probably wouldn’t occur to a Catholic to actually recite those words, but a non Catholic might innocently enough start in just because they were in boldface type. I doubt that a non-Catholic would be walking into Mass for the first time with an expensive personal missal, but I suppose it could remotely happen!

I caved in last night and ordered a black bonded leather missal from MTF. I have bonded bibles that have held up well for years so I figured I’d save a few bucks over the genuine leather. The standard UPS shipping is 13!!!. For 1 pound? Holy Standard Handling, Batman!

I gave the reciept to my wife and asked her to give it to me for Christmas.

They need to change their shipping methods. I ordered a bible for my wife from an outfit across the continent last Thursday night, it got here today USPS priority mail. So far no sign of the missal ordered quite a while before the Bible. USPS shipping was $10.50, 2.50 less than UPS, SUPPORT THE USPS!

The Roman Missal has a good alternative to bold type: SMALL CAPS.

Turns out Mrs. Santa snagged mine from Mr. UPS and it’s wrapped under the tree! Took 4 days to get here but she’s good at keeping a secret. Hopefully the bamboo splinters under her nails will heal by Christmas.

I received it a couple of days ago and ordered it about a week before you did. Sounds like UPS is more on the ball than USPS.

In the end, the USPS beat the UPS by about a day, and UPS cost 30% ,ore.

I opened mine last night, will use it at Mass this morning but have not gone through it with any detail yet.

If you’re Canadian, even more so.

Having ordered mine for shipment to Canada, I intentionally chose a store (Online Catholic Store onlinecatholicstore.com/) that has not only given great service every time I shopped with them, but shipped USPS over the UPS’s and FedEx’s out there. Once shipped USPS, it enters through Canada Post and I get spared the awful brokerage charges which can really ramp up the shipping costs.

I love my new MTS Missal (although the readings are NAB, not Canadian NRSV, but that’s not a deal-killer).

I want the black genuine leather one. But it’s out of stock.

How good is the bonded leather?

I bought the black bonded leather model. The cover is a padded hard cover. The bonded leather is quite shiny and does not look like real leather but it doesn’t look bad at all. My suspicion, since it is a hard cover, is that it will wear well. The issues I have seen with bonded leather bibles over the year is that the flexible ones are the ones which look shopworn after a lot of use, so I’m happy with it.

My opinion is that for $75 ALL of them should be real leather. A $75 Bible is always real leather, maybe not goatskin but certainly cowhide. But it’s what’s inside that counts and this missal is LOADED with goodies!

I got my MTF/Scepter/OSV (or whatever you want to call it) missal today.

Beautiful, by far surpasses the St. Joseph and Pauline Press missals that I have used in the past. It is a truly all in one book for mass, adoration, and private prayer.

In the back of the book is contained what amounts to the Student Edition of the Handbook of Prayers by MTF. A great missal that will now be my daily companion.

I’ve been confused about the MTF/Scepter/OSV missal. Is this the identical missal but with different publishers, or are there differences between the three? I ordered the OSV, am I going to be happy with my choice? Can anyone banish my confusion? Thanks in advance. I apologize if this has been answered later in this threadd. I have not read it all yet.

I got this Missal as a Christmas gift. It’s pretty impressive and definitely a step up from the New St. Joseph Sunday Missal I had been using. I love all the extra prayers and devotions in the back, as well as the Latin translations.

I agree with you entirely. It’s quite an improvement over the St. Joseph series. It’s odd to me that Catholic Book Publishing doesn’t have a 3rd edition missal out for sale yet.

There is no difference from what I can tell. I ordered mine of Amazon and got one with an MTF and OSV publisher mark. When I returned it for a new one because of a printing error I got one that just had MTF. Likewise I went to a Catholic bookstore that had many in stock and noticed the three variations in publisher marks. When I asked the proprietor she said that she ordered them all at the same time from MTF. It seems that it might just be that the three are pooling there combined printing resources on this one. It is after all not too often that this many missals need to be printed in this short of a span of time.
