It’s not like the slip ons for the Tridentine Mass missals that are pictured on the website. It slips on, but also has a zipper closure. There is a Holy Family medal on the zipper pull, wired on with a wrapped wire “bow.” These covers are not pictured on the website, they do have some of them, because a woman makes them specially for the MTF Daily Roman Missal (3rd.) and these folks tend to lean toward the traditional side. The vinyl is soft, leatherlike, and high quality, and the stitching is done very well.

They’re not cheap ($29 including shipping) but I think it was worth it to protect my investment.

I got mine in burgundy, they also have it in black, but can get it in other colors. I had wanted a pine green, but the lady who makes them up couldn’t find a good quality vinyl in that color.

They’re really nice folks, too. This couple seems to have found a niche ministry in providing high quality sacramental goods. Now that I’ve given a pretty shameless pitch for them, I just want everyone to know that I don’t work for them, or anything like that–LOL!

Is this the cover you ordered on the website now? It shows vinyl missal covers for $24.

Does anyone know when the Large Print Edition is going to come out? I looked on their site and there’s nothing. I am thinking of calling them next week, because this is the Missal that I perfer above all the others.

I have the bonded leather version and it lays flat, although it is 2 1/4 inches thick, no problem.

After looking at the bonded version and an old hard cover version I have, frankly, I’d save the money and go with the hard cover. It doesn’t look as nice but money talks.

The people who sit behind me have done so for 15 years, if they stole my missal they know I’d be pretty chapped.

I have never heard of pew theft before so securely leave my missal in the pew.
 
Yep, the sacramentals.org now has the cover on its website. It wasn’t there when I ordered mine. It’s the one for what they refer to as the Novus Ordo missal (wish they had used “Ordinary Form.”

I do like the cover. The pockets fit well. You can also put a novena leaflet or a couple of holy cards in there as well.

I found a link to a youtube video explaining how to use the missal more efficiently, including how to set up the ribbons and find specific days. Here’s the link

Thanks - I ordered a cover today. I love the missal as is, but I do worry about damage from the elements, etc. so I think the cover is a good investment.

Thanks for posting the video too. I have been trying to figure out how to use it more efficiently and set up the ribbons, so that ought to help.
 
I received mine today and it’s by far the most expensive book I’ve bought yet, but it was well worth the money in my opinion!

I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner.

The cover is leather but it does not drape like a single piece of supple leather would - it is over a board with some padding so it is stiff. It does have to be held open a bit to read the words in the center near the binding at times. I’m wondering how much it will break in with age.

I leave mine in the pew and never thought about it being stolen.

Tim, does your genuine leather one have a hard cover? From your pictures it looks as if the cover isn’t totally flexible like a leather-covered Bible, maybe in between that and a hard cover book?

Does anyone know if you can get the genuine leather in any color other than black?
 
I believe the leather one is basically a hardcover covered with leather and I’ve only seen it in black.
 
I have the hardcover version in burgundy, and added (as I mentioned before) a burgundy-colored vinyl zip closed cover that I bought elsewhere. I picked up the hardcover version for a couple of reasons:
  1. I have a proclivity towards impulsiveness (which my SD likes to remind me of ever so often,) and the hardcover was the first version released before the Mass changes went into effect.
  2. The hardcover does pretty much lay flat, flat enough to be able to read if I’m using the missal at places other than Mass, for example, to read something while I’m eating lunch at my desk. I work with my hands most of the day, and they do get tired. So no gorilla grip is required like a softer cover version. My old missal was the St. Joseph bonded leather version, but you had to hold it open.
  3. It was a little less expensive, but then I went and got a cover for it. So that zero-summed the savings. It did, however, space out the cash outlays. Anyways, I was getting tired of wrapping it in a plastic grocery bag in bad weather, and didn’t want to ruin it.

I have not seen it in any color other than black.

The cover is stiff. It is leather backed with some padding over a board. It does not flex.

For those of you with new MTF Missals, I have found A reddish smudge on page 998. The smudge is thumb size and obscures the print underneath. I contacted MTF and they offered me a new Missal, but i did not feel the issue warranted that. I have leafed through the Missal and not found any other defects. Just an FYI to check your Missals. Oh, I love this Missal, and My Priest has the same one and Likes it very much!

I saw it and held it today in the Catholic bookstore. They had a black hardcover unwrapped. The rest were all in shrinkwrap, but I could tell that the black padded cover is really nice. Any of the options are good, actually. I would like a burgundy genuine leather, but that would probably put the price even higher. 🤷

I ogled them for a while, but I am not ready to buy today. Soon, though.

Mine’s clear on page 998. I have no issues with the book at all. I like it very much and hope to really make the most of it during Lent. The Stations (p. 2369 et seq) are very well done.
