My parents are first cousins, am I going to hell?

hmm when i read this question and its replies, another question popped up in my mind…i honestly believe that you wouldnt get punished for our parent’s sin and it seems like a lot of ppl here agree that you don’t get punished for other ppl’s sin…

but in the bible, didn’t descendants get punished for their ancestor’s decisions? like original sin…Adam and Eve did something wrong yet all of mankind was punished for their crime with original sin. and that’s just one example. any comments on this?

I know of two cases where it resulted in children with physical or mental defects. For a couple of years I lived on an island where there had been considerable intermarriage. The town maintained a farm where a couple of dozen adults from such marriages were cared for.

One problem I have noted is that the parents feel guilt for the child’s state and this can seriously affect their relationship to the child.

I read somewhere that there is a town in Michigan that had to build special schools for the slow kids born of to much intermarriage and some with heart problems that are inherited now. Also I know someone that has an inherited problem that they say comes from repeated intermarriage years ago. If first cousins marry for the first time in a family, they seem to be safe, but if it is repeated and their kids marry first cousins etc, then the problems seem to arise. If I am not mistaken that is why some of our laws were put into place, to protect kids from this sort of problem. God Bless, Memaw

We all suffer the consequences of someone else’s sins but we do not have to ans. for the sin itself. If my father is a thief and goes to jail, then I suffer the shame, and hardships but I don’t have to go to jail with him. God is a JUST GOD, and he knows us better than we know ourselves. Obviously if you have certain genetic traits towards a particular health issue, the problem would become magnified in an intermarrying group. For example, if both parents were carrying gene that cause type 1 diabetes, you are more likely to have that as a result.

My wife and I both have blue eyes. Guess what? Our children have blue eyes.

If you have genetically healthy people, whether first cousins or even siblings, they will have healthy children.

Many inherited problems have been caused by to much intermarriage of cousins years ago. That has been proven according to some who have the problem, I have a friend whose family has been studied and that is the reason for their problem. And the sad thing is, passing of generations do not lessen the problem. Hemophilia is one that was caused by to much intermarriage, especially in Royalty. I read an article on it that said if anyone has this situation in their family, they could trace it back to royalty in the family at one time. Just passing on info. God Bless, Memaw

It would seem that according to the New Covenant, which is no longer pass on by blood relation, but by the individual entering into Christ, the sins of a person’s father’s/ancestors are no longer imputed to a person. But children are very astute at learning by what their parents practice more than by what their parents say. So, the same tendencies or weaknesses that led our ancestors to sin often leads us into the same sins. Not that that has anything to do with cousins marrying, but I think it’s an interesting study.
