Well, i don’t draw demons per say, i draw pretty girls/boys with horns and fangs sometimes. Its totally just for the cool horned look theres nothing “demonic” about them they are literally people with horns in 90’s clothing smile and throwing up a peace sign. I am a devout carholic, and i have bever wavered from my faith, nor do i feel like doing so. i like drawing this, its fun and i thought it was harmless as demons don’t really look like that nor are my drawing depicting any bad actions. But my parents told me i shouldnt be drawing demons(in more wprds than this) and she even threathened to rip up the drawings i worked so hard on. Its not the only thing i draw, i draw angels dogs, trees, houses, giant animals on cardboard for a church festival but like is it really that big a deal?

I don’t see a problem. We should be very careful with the demonic and avoid it, but this doesn’t sound like anything harmful. Can you send me a picture of yours?

If something even resembled anything that ever has ever sometimes been associated with demons, even if it was a fictional bit, I would just not draw it, I’d burn it. The only demon depiction I have is in my room and Michael is smashing its ugly head.

I think horns and fangs are cool in an aesthetic sense, i love the cool textures and shapes horns come in, there’s nothing demonic about horns or fangs them selves, many animals have them, so i feel just because the combination of both seems like what a pop culture demon looks like, it shouldnt matter since my intent is not to draw something evil, and i draw plenty of biblical things, im working on painting of the sacred family and the last supper

Are you a minor living under your parents’ authority? If so, obey them.

If you think anyone could interpret it as demonic, don’t draw it. The reality is there is plenty of art that depicts demons with horns, why would you risk glorifying them just because they “look cool”?

As an artist i understand artistic expression and vision, i think its very neat to combine aspects into one, art is actually just my hobby tho, and i dont thinknim anywhere skilled enought to have it as a career 😅

Have you seen the traditional images of Moses?

https://www.rome.info/michelangelo/moses/

Michelangelo’s Moses is depicted with horns on his head. He, like so many artists before him, were laboring under a misconception? This is believed to be because of the mistranslation of the Hebrew Scriptures into Latin by St Jerome. Moses is actually described as having “rays of the skin of his face”, which Jerome in the Vulgate had translated as “horns”. The mistake in translation is possible because the word “keren” in the Hebrew language can mean either “radiated (light)” or “grew horns”.

I am not a minor but i do live at home, my siblings and i are not to leave until we are wed, and that was my concern i dont want to disreaect them, but i feel that this isnt such a big deal

I don’t think there’s inherently anything wrong with those drawings. I know some people might be uncomfortable with anything that could be interpreters as ‘demonic’, but I think drawings with horns and fangs are a pretty harmless.

I’m not going to lie, that sounds a little strange…

Ultimately, since you are not a minor you are under no moral obligation To strictly obey your parents. However, since you are living at home with them, it would probably be a common courtesy to not draw - or at least not display - pictures that they are uncomfortable with.

So there isn’t anything inherently demonic about horns and fangs, they are adaptations that God created animals with so that they could survive, and they look really interesting

Cool, I like it. It’s really similar to how I imagined it. We shouldn’t underestimate the demonic, but we shouldn’t panic. Reading Harry Potter or drawing such things is really nothing bad.

Guessing that your parents are paying for your room and board? If they are, obey their house rules.

I worded it really strange lol, but what i meant is that my parents don’t want us to leave and don’t see the point of us living on our own if we still live and work nearby, we are very close so we don’t mind 😅

Is it really necessary to obey them in this situation? I think they are being overly protective if I may be so bold to say this.

Older Christians have an “allergy” to anything that
smacks of the demonic, it is a “knee jerk” reaction,
so just cool down on the horns and tails and maybe
they will adjust to it and cool down their criticism.

It is entirely reasonable for your parents to make rules for what you can and can’t do in their house. You should respect them in that. Don’t think of it as a hardship, think of it as an artistic challenge. I mean that seriously. Limitations fuel creativity.

On the flip side, it is not at all reasonable for them to steal and destroy your possessions. Being your parents does not exempt them from the other commandments where you are concerned. Keep in mind this puts a burden on both of you: they are not to sin against you and you are not to tempt them to sin against you.

One last note: I am a little concerned about how you described it as a rule that you are not to leave until wed. You do feel you could leave if you wanted to, right?
