or chocolate chip mint.

A way to kick such cravings is to not eat that stuff at all though…and eventually your body naturally won’t crave all that sugar. But, dark chocolate is good for us, I’ve read.😃
Don’t care.😛 When I have my period, I must have chocolate!!!

As a friend once said, “Chocolate is proof that God loves us.”

A leeetle apple whiskey is good for periods, too. My old lady friend taught me that. She told me “This is what the girls did in Brussels.” God rest her soul. She’d invite me into her apartment and give me a nip of that stuff when it was “that time”. And I’d sit on her velvet coach in her old world living room and feel much better. Just a shot, mind you. I’m not talking about getting sloshed or anything. No.

But if you can’t get apple, any whiskey’ll do.😉

whiskey and chocolate…hey now…there would be less marital spats, I’m sure of it!!! 😃 👍 😃 👍 😃

I have never had a hormonal argument that was about an issue that didn’t bother me the rest of the time. So there ya go.
Amen Sister – and that is your “My period. Your period. Our period.” answer!

Although can admit I am less patient at that time. 😊

If only this were true.

My husband and I went on South Beach for almost six months and lost about 30 pounds.

According to the good Dr. Agatston (or whatever), as you stop eating sweets you will stop craving sweets.

Sorry, Dr. Agatson. It’s true that physically, I didn’t crave the sweets.

**But the psychological craving was unbearable. **

Eventually we caved and now we have both gained back most of our weight. My blood pressure and cholesterol are high for the first time in my life, and I am really wondering if going on South Beach and then going off triggered something bad in me. I wish I had never tried it.

😦

There’s always the whiskey and chocolate diet–just kidding.🙂

I think that Weight Watchers is the most sensible program, if you want a program. My sister works for them. It’s a very healthy and balanced diet.

It was really strange–before I had my hysterectomy I used to crave chocolate, at certain times of the month. I would get in the car and drive all the way to the store just for a Snickers bar! Or buy a bag of dark chocolate chips just to eat. After the surgery and to this day, I rarely eat chocolate, I don’t even like it most of the time.

And there is no doubt about it, and I will freely admit it–when I had PMS, everybody got out of the way, cause when Mama wasn’t happy, nobody was happy! It was if some other personality
emerged for a couple of days and I had no control over it. I couldn’t stand myself even. I cried at the drop of a hat. My poor husband was a peach, even charted my periods on the calendar, and would warn me of what was happening. I don’t know how he put up with it. Emotionally, that surgical menopause was the best thing that ever happened to me. Now as for the other things that go along with menopause…

PMS is definitely not all in one’s head–it is real and can really play havoc on a woman. I am glad it’s over for me.

I don’t think I get grumpy around my period. I’m just too darn nice the rest of the time!! 😉

Hi,

Me and my bf had a mini-argument. We got offended from each others’ comments. Now, at the middle of the argument he said that this (the mini-arguments) happens once a month.

I told him he cannot just blame that for whenever we are having arguments because maybe he did something to upset me.

But does it really do something to us, women?

Do we really get more cranky?

Thanks.
A number of things happens…I do know though, if women exercise regularly and have diets lower in sugar/carbs, cramps and hormonal flux are lessened. Why? Because insulin, being a hormone itself, when kicked into overdrive (like when we crave chocolate, carbs, etc during that time) doesn’t ‘mix’ well with estrogen, which fluctuates during that time. So, yes, something does happen…but it might affect each woman differently. The less body fat a woman has also, can also make a difference in how well she handles her period. It’s not in our minds, I’m trying to say. lol

I suspect that’s true for a lot of women - the timing of the argument is due to your hormones, but the subject of the argument is completely valid. It’s just that the hormones made you lose your temper and bring it up.
I completely third or fourth this (if several people say it, it must be true ;)) - the topic is usually something you need to talk about, you just don’t deal with it effectively at that time. Although, personally, I can also overreact to things I would let go at other times, like others have said.
In any case, DH has learned not to “blame” my cycle for my emotional state, but rather, he’s really, really amazing at (after the fact when I’m calm) asking if I felt that perhaps I was a little more emotional because I was due to start?
My husband does exactly the same thing - he’s truly wonderful at dealing with me when I’m more emotional!

We’ve always seen it as my responsibility to watch my reactions in the 2-3 days before my period is due (I know I’m lucky that it’s not a week or more), but his responsibility to remind me that it is due if I’m overreacting to things. That’s all he has to do - it’s then my job to accept he’s got a point (not always easy when I’m upset) and do something about it.

My self-control has improved no end since we got married and actually had to live with each other 🙂

I was explaining about periods to my 10 year old daughter this week. I told her that women need periods so that they can have babies.

She says, “Well, I’m going to be a Nun, so do have to get it? Do you think I can skip it?”

If that were the case, there might be a few more nuns in circulation these days, don’t you think 😛 ?

Speaking for myself, I am more likely to lose my cool when I am close to getting my period - but about issues that have been building up that have nothing to do with the hormones. I suspect that’s true for a lot of women - the timing of the argument is due to your hormones, but the subject of the argument is completely valid. It’s just that the hormones made you lose your temper and bring it up.

Amen.

I don’t know if anyone else goes through this, but I am so very clumsy during ‘my time of the month.’ Ugh!!!

I walk into walls, people,😊 drop glasses…go to grab something and slip and fall. It is sooo strange, and once ‘it is’ over, I’m back to normal.

My husband just gives me one of these… :ehh: :ouch: during that time. Like today–I’m very clumsy. lol So, that’s how I know ‘it’s’ near. lol I spilled coffee, and broke a nail yesterday… It’s drama at its best. 😃

I know my kids and my husband are all a little more irritable when they are achy or tired. So it would stand to figure that woman who are achy and tired from getting her period might be a little more irritable, too.

:rotfl: Oh, my goodness!!! That’s me - either right before or during. This past weekend, I was totally Mrs. Clumsy. I am literally bruised and scabbed all of the place. I dropped a paint can on my foot (I was painting the bathroom) and thought I broke my big toe and second toe. I didn’t thank, goodness, but I was bleeding all over. This morning I slipped in the shower and banged my leg right underneath my knee, so now I have a huge bruise there. And this evening, while putting the glasses away, I almost dropped one glass, but as I tried to save that glass, my elbow slammed heavily onto a champagne glass on the counter, knocking off the counter and shattering on the floor, and the palm of my hand pressed very hard into the mouth of the glass I was trying to save. Don’t ask me how this happened. I don’t even know. So now, I have a huge bruise right above my elbow, my wrist is a little strained and I can’t bend my arm all the way because it feels like the nerves in that area have been hurt in some way. I can’t explain the feeling. All I can do is laugh at myself. What a clumsy oaf, that I am!!!

The only thing I didn’t screw up on was during my horse back riding lesson. You’d think that I’d have fallen off the horse, but I was actually at my best balance today. Maybe I was being more aware of it.

In term of my irritability during my time of the month… yes, I have noticed over the years that I am much more emotional about a week before my period. Things that never would bother me, suddenly tip me off. I’m less patient, more sensitive, can cry at the drop of the hat if something really affects me. On the other end of the spectrum, I become extremely passionate, sensual, more creative and more in-tune with my body. And when I’m more in tune with my body, I find that I have an easier time warming up to sing and feel like I have more body to my voice when I do sing. Everything is much more lubricated, especially for singing.

Down side is that week, I always feel the fattest and my complexion is the worst. My chest becomes the size of watermelons so that they are so sore during the week, my clothes just don’t fit the way they do the other three weeks, and my face breaks out with zits. Yeah, I really love that. hahaha!
