my problem with going to church is that i usually commit a mortal sin during the week, and so i go during the week to cleanse my sin, however, before sunday rolls around, i commit mortal sin again, and then i dont want to go to confession twice that same week because i am afraid of what the pastor is going to think when he hears that i cant cleanse myself of this problem, and so then i miss mass on sunday, and then go once a week, and this repeates over and over, and i have not received the body now for a long time because of this, although i am willing to confess, just not more than once a week

As your confessor, the priest is there to guide you to living a good and holy life. He’s not going to judge you on your frequent confessions. And there’s no reason you can’t confess to a priest another parish. God bless you!

Be not afraid. Make it a goal to conquer this sin. It is not easy to overcome bad habits, inclinations or vices. Honestly try your best. Only God knows what is in your heart.

  1. Priests hear confessions to help people, not judge them. They don’t keep a roster of who comes to confession and how many times.
I tell you, in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.
–Luke 15:7
  1. Even if you are afraid of what your priest may think of you going to confession frequently, please do not miss mass on Sunday. You are just compounding your problems by committing another mortal sin.
Bottom line, we all fall. We are all sinners. Jesus knew this, that is why he gave us such a great sacrament. Use it…and use it often if you need to.

Don’t give up, keep fighting and listen to the advice your priest gives you in the confessional.

God Bless

So then you have to confess missing Sunday obligation too. You do receive sanctifying grace from the sacrament of Confession each week, as you mention, so it is best to make a private confession to God when you sin after that, and then attend Sunday, but do not receive the Eucharist (if it was a mortal sin) until you can confess again.

YES.

Don’t miss Mass is you can at all help it!

Don’t ever be afraid of going to Confession often for a habitual sin. I have heard of people going to Confession every single day for a sin that they struggle with. This matter should not prevent you from hearing Mass on Sunday. You can go to Mass without receiving Holy Communion. Without the graces of the Holy Sacrifice, it will be much harder for you to fight this sin.

We should still go to Sunday Mass even if we cannot receive Communion.

Not going to Mass is just compounding the problem. Go to confession. It sounds like pride is your main stumbling block and maybe you don’t want the priest to know that you have this problem because then you will have to confront it. It is a spiritual battle and the quicker you realize that the better.

Look, right now I feel as though I am a heap of rubbish. Not feeling well at all and I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse. The only time it is acceptable to miss Mass is that if you are taking care of someone that is ill or you yourself are you Catholic answers has all kinds of resources for this. Now there are some other extraordinary since his like for instance you have no way to get there but if you have access to Internet you probably have a way to get there. Look I used to have the same trouble with mortal sin I didn’t even make my first confession until several months after I came into the Church as I was baptized as an adult. But I started going sporadically at first but I started going more and more because I wanted to be able to receive the Eucharist every time I went to Mass. I’ve had bad confessors I’ve had very good ones. Ultimately it doesn’t matter what matters is that I went and it matters that you go don’t add $0.01 on top of another. Those things add up humble yourself mate.

You cannot cleanse yourself of this sin! You are starving for God’s grace. Father already knows your sin. Confess during the week if you must. This is life or death.

Just confess.

As Catholics we are obligated to attend mass on Sundays; we are not obligated to receive communion every Sunday. We are only obligated to receive communion once a year during the Easter season.

You dont go to mass to receive communion. You go to mass to worship God.

Many people do not go up to receive communion for a variety of reasons: they ate something right before mass and have not been fasting, or they came in late to mass and missed the Gospel reading, they are in a second marriage without benefit of annulment, etc, etc.

Go to mass; worship God; ask for His help combating sin.

Don’t worry about going to Confession. It exists for sinners. If you want, you can rotate parishes for Confession, but there’s really nothing to worry about.

Go to Mass anyway, whether you receive the Eucharist or not. I have been in your shoes many times. After confessing it, the priest told me that nobody can be in the physical presence of Jesus and remain unchanged. Just go and don’t worry.

I WANT to make a good confession, not
only for myself, but for the priest, too.
I withheld from confessing a venial sin
b/c I don’t want the priest to think I am
wicked.

Don’t be afraid of going to confession more than once per week if your in a state of mortal sin.

A month after a confession, I fell into the same sin so I tried to confess again, the priest told me that confession is not a shower we take every time we feel dirty, it is a serious sacrament that must not be abused.

I sometimes sin during the week too, but I still go to mass and I don’t get up for communion.

I don’t feel self conscious because I’m not disposed to receive & I want to be there. But honestly (and perhaps selfishly) I actually feel like I’m setting a good example by sitting in the pew. I personally believe that there are many people who receive unworthly or stay home like you out of shame. But the as more people who refrain from communion when they sin, they set a good example. I always sit in the second row, so I’m sure that some people notice when I don’t receive.

In summary: I don’t receive for the right reasons , but I’m not embarssed because I know I’m doing the right thing.

I pray this helps you.

God Bless

thanks guys, i am going to start going to church regardless whether I sin or not,

I was going to a parish that was closer to my parents house, I now moved and live on my own, and am going to a new parish, maybe thats where the problem lies, is that it is a new parish and I am not used to it, nor am I used to being someone who confesses frequently,

I started to be confortable with confessing at the older church, and even about that I would complain, I think my problem is i complain too much about things,

but < being at a new Church is intimidating, because the new preists see you, you have new parish members, and the climate is different,

as a single male, i find it a bit disheartening being alone all the time there, but what can you do

Sin grows best in the dark.

If you can not speak of it, it gains power

After reading all these posts before yours saying, ‘Go to confession’, your post really hits it on the head. It made me laugh too. Reconciliation is here to help us purify our soul, not make us feel better. If a person sets their mind to going to confession regularly, and is earnestly making progress kicking bad habits, then they should not worry about whether or not they decide to receive the Eucharist.
