I wish I knew what your point was.
From his workshops I have attended I believe Raymond Brown would likely not be too concerned if the massacre of the Holy Innocents was only a handful of murders in a village or two…or not even historical. He also believes there is very slender Biblical evidence supporting the angels appearing to Mary and Joseph, the Flight into Egypt and quite a few more minor Infancy events.
Yet he is highly respected by both Protestants and the Magisterium.
He also sees goof evidence for the bodily Resurrection of Jesus in the NT.
I really don’t see what the fuss is all about re Modern Biblical Scholarship.
But if lay persons don’t have the skills to distinguish minor events from major events and respected scholars from crackpots then I can well understand the chicken-lichen fears re all Modern Catholic Biblical Scholarship.
For those of us who follow respected Catholic scholars its a storm in a teacup.
