My sister....how could she do this

Sadly, Serap, Shanny has explained that she was raised Catholic, the family has talked to her about it, and she knows what she is doing. All the guilt and depression in the world will not save her if she doesn’t stop what she is doing and ask for forgiveness (with a contrite heart).

jjbulano, my sister was raised Catholic like the rest of us, she went to Catholic grade school and went through the sacraments of initiation, went to Mass weekly etc.,but she has never in any way embraced the faith largely becasue of my Dad’s influence as a non Catholic. He went along with our religious educations but he made it known in small ways, that he was very much in objection to many Church teachings, and definitely abortion. His belief system and morals are very much informed by his political ideology, not vice versa, and my sister has followed suit.

She knows what the Church teaches re:abortion but she sees absolutely no relevance that teaching has to her. She dismisses the Church completely. You and I know that God’s laws apply to everyone, but she doesn’t. I really can’t know what her culpability is.

This is horrible, I feel so bad for you. What an incredible tragedy. :crying:

My only suggestion is to do fasting and penance for your sister. Pray before the blessed sacrament and go to daily mass. Perhaps your penance and prayers can save her in the end.

People in your sister’s state often cannot perceive the horrific evil they are doing. They simply are blind to it. Pray that God will soften your sister’s heart and open her eyes.
