The Prophet Joseph Smith said the Book of Mormon is the word of God. He also preached the King Follett Discourse. The prophet of the Restoration spoke to both points in his capacity as The Prophet. Both must be true or Joseph was a false prophet. Joseph’s successors can’t pick and choose which of his prophetic utterances were actually prophetic.

It’s really quite simple.

Believe it or not, most of what has been published by JS is actually things that Joseph Smith, reportedly said. For example, the lds church has published two books called, The Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and The Words of the Prophet Joseph Smith. However, both have much that was reportedly said by Joseph from notes of the people who attended his lectures and speeches. This would make it quite difficult to piece together just what was said and just what wasn’t said.

However, it does seem as if the notes contained exact information but not the total information of what Joseph said.

Does it matter? Life seems to be a shell game. Just ask the Bernie Madoff investor.

But what does matter is the people that belong to the lds church. And Mormons can be wonderful people because they know what it means to be a christian. To love God, to love their neighbor and to love their enemy. That makes for a great person.

Hosemonkey did not say what is in your yellowbox above, I did. 🙂

Joseph’s successors would be successive prophets, and I stand by my statement.
That your prophets can “pick and choose” which of Joseph’s revelations are “canon”? Good, I am glad you stand by that, because it is pretty obviously the truth. However if you are going to stand by the erroneous parallels you attempted to draw between how your LDS prophets operate and how the Holy Fathers of the Catholic Church operate, all you are going to do is continue to expose how utterly ignorant you are of the Catholic faith.
You persist in ignoring Limbo, or any of the examples I brought up.
Limbo was never defined as doctrine. It has been a theory among some people of the Church for a long time, but there is not now, nor has there ever been, an official doctrine of the Church on what happens to unbaptized infants. No pope has defined one, and no pope has contradicted an earlier definition. And that is that.
Again, hammering away at this simply shows the depth of your understanding of the Catholic Church: a layer of drizzle on a busy highway. Stick to what you know, please.

Hi TruthSilence! I hear you have a lot of snow right now. We’re a balmy 72 degrees today. Woot!

NS
Good to see you. 🙂

Yes, we are buried in snow here. Its pretty though, and I’m sure the skiing is great. Enjoy the warm weather you’re having. Sounds nice.

Limbo was never Catholic dogma. It was a teaching but never a dogma. In my understanding of Mormonism, I would call polygamy a doctrine, while restricting the priest hood to whites (the Mark of Cain), blood atonement, and the Adam as God doctrine are dogma. Catholics don’t change dogma but Mormons do.

We have a problem. Simply because YOU 'would call" something ‘dogma’ doesn’t make it dogma.

"Yep, good ol’ joe. He invented a religion, right? And he was an evil guy right?, usually on a ‘drunk’, right? And yet, I would take mormon neighbors any day of the week. They are just nice as heck and if I ever needed help, I would know that these neighbors would be there for me.
Good ol’ drunken Joe must have done somethin’ right, right? "🙂
I did not post this, WhyMe posted it.
Good ol’ drunken Joe just created a false religion that has led thousands into the maze that is mormonism and perhaps has jeopardized their immortal souls. Just being nice don’t feed the bulldog if you are following false religion.

What makes a good:
Catholic, Mormon, Jw, Jew, Muslim etc?

How do we define good?

Good works?

Practice?

Worship?

Who has a conner on how to?

What is one thing they all can have in common and be united?

Peace>>>AJ

Yes, you’re right. There IS a problem. The beliefs of the LDS church are apparently so ephemeral that no one can say exactly what it is that they believe at any one time. That’s fine for them, but it becomes a problem when Mormons try to assign the same quality to the beliefs of the Catholic Church in some never-ending attempt to equivocate. The dogmas of the Catholic Church are settled and known. They do not shift and change according to the fads of society or the whims of the popes.

Therein lies just one of the huge problems in mormonism. Here you have two books, published by the mormon church, meant to be taken as “truth” by their readers, but using words like “reportedly” and written by second or even third-hand authors. Take this kind of evidence into court and see how far it will go. You will be told that you have NO case.

Nope. Same thing. Stop telling me what I believe. Why should I care what you call Mormon doctrine? I say limbo was doctrine and you changed it. Now what?

What religion are you, because this is not Catholic doctrine? Are you now Baptist? When did you convert?

I have said this until I am blue in the face, so once more will not hurt. It is not doctrine unless it is in the standard works. Perfectly clear.

Is this the famous nuh-uh defense?

Who is God and Man:
Mark of Cain
Blood Atonement
Adam was God

No they’re not!!
Limbo
transubstantiation
immaculate conception
the assumption
burning heretics
kill muslims in the crusades
burn Joan of Arc
Pope Joan

Shall I continue?

But that’s not what your original claim was. Your claim was that doctrines can be changed in the LDS church and isn’t that what the Popes do? Everyone can go back and read what you wrote. It’s disingenuous to attempt to move the goalposts now.

 Mr./Mrs./Miss/Ms. Bukowski, do not rail against people for making untrue, uninformed claims about your church when you yourself have no problem with making untrue, uninformed claims about theirs.

Shall you continue naming things that were never contradicted doctrine - and most are historical events have nothing to do with doctrine at all? Sure, go ahead. Knock yourself out!

No Ski, I am as firmly Catholic as ever. My Church’s doctrines have not changed, never will. I cannot say the same for mormonism, as I have not checked within the last 15 minutes or so. The Old Men in SLC may have done a complete makeover.

It’s true, I haven’t been here very long. About a week, actually…but I"ve not seen any Mormon tell CATHOLICS what they ‘really’ believe.
