Your son may reject the reserve option quite honestly. If he is looking for a way to ditch college, the reserves is not going to appeal to him because he will need to apply and be accepted and go to classes. And I thought he was not interested in that route.
And one more thing, it has been said by more than one Marine, that Marines respect officers that earn their rank through promotion, not by having graduated from college. Just letting you know why your son might reject the reserves path.
Perhaps BoomBoom can comment further on promotions, but my son has not been in for even 3 years and he is a corporal. So, gaining rank happens even in the first years.
