My son told us this morning he's joining the Marines

Your son may reject the reserve option quite honestly. If he is looking for a way to ditch college, the reserves is not going to appeal to him because he will need to apply and be accepted and go to classes. And I thought he was not interested in that route.

And one more thing, it has been said by more than one Marine, that Marines respect officers that earn their rank through promotion, not by having graduated from college. Just letting you know why your son might reject the reserves path.

Perhaps BoomBoom can comment further on promotions, but my son has not been in for even 3 years and he is a corporal. So, gaining rank happens even in the first years.

I’m from Spain, but still I thank you for giving your life for others.

A neighbor’s son was in the Marines recently and is now in the Marine Reserves. Has nothing bad to say about the experience. But have to say he wasn’t in long enough to go somewhere.

I have heard that Psalm 91 is a good one for Christian soldiers to pray with. I’ve read it and yes I think it is appropriate so that might be passed on to those in the service.

Thank you but I am not a hero…I walked with some, but I was lucky in combat.

When you see him after basic training you will be proud. He will be different in a mature way. I was a Sailor for 24 years. One of my better decisions. As member, they call themselves " The Few. The Proud. The Marines". Good to remind him of his roots “The many. The humbled. The saved”.
