well…its not really common 2 go trick or treating where i live…
but if you really disagree with the whole traditional vampire thing…
allow them to go as Edward and Bella from Twilight…
Edward being the vampire and Bella the mortal (so far…)
Its low budget costuming - plus they will look really nice…
here are a few ideas suggested by this site -
en.twilightpoison.com/fans_cullencostumescouples.html

hope that helps!

So I wonder what happens to the Gothic kids on Halloween? They celerbrate it the other 364 days a year, so no big deal to them. :rotfl:

Truly not a big deal.

My sons have dressed up as bloodied monsters, zombies, or scarecrows for going on 5 weekends now.

So where do y’all live that 16 year olds go trick or treating??
My sister was 21 and pregnant when she went trick or treating with me. I was 13 at the time. We may just do it again. I know she could pass for 17 and the baby could pass off as our little sister.

So y’all walk around the neighborhood knocking on doors??? I can’t imagine when I was 21 going to my neighbors house, knock on the door, hold out my bag and scream trick a trick while surrounding by 6 year olds? Y’all really do that or just joshing us?

I’m serious. We did that back in 2006. We live out in the sticks, but there are neighborhoods a few miles away. We were very polite too. Nobody ever seemed to be suspicious. I was Fox Mulder from x-flies and she was a baby coincidentally.

so just outta curiosity - is halloween as big an event like christmas in the US?

It is a big a holiday. Lots of people decorate, however most of the kids if not all still have school that day.
o so its a big commercial sort of event…
mm…i c a great way for big confectionary companies to make some doe.

My 16 year old son’s girlfriend suggested they go trick or treating as a vampire and vampiress. I told my son I didn’t want him going as a vampire. He said he did when he was 6. He’s right. He wore a red and black cape. No makeup, no teeth, no blood, not even anything in his hair.

When I found out they wanted to go to Spirit (of all places) to look for costumes, I thought I had the discussion ended when I do not have room in the budget for a Halloweeen costume, especially one he was only going to wear for a couple of hours. Why not wear what we have. A hot dog and a bottle of mustard. No, wait, since you LOVE ketchup, your girlfriend can be the bottle of ketchup. How cute is that. Well he was buying it until I showed his girlfriend the costumes. Her reply? “I’m afraid of bulky costumes.” 🤷

The next day he said his girlfriend said she would SEW him a cape and he can get some makeup and she’s going to be a bat.

So, is it sacreligious to be a vampire? Do I let her win and let go of this fight? I don’t want him to be a vampire but he tells me there is nothing wrong with it!
I think you should let him. I mean, its not like it will turn him against god. If he really wants to do it, you should let him. It will be a good memory to think back on.

In a way you could say that, but to parents it’s worth the money to put a smile on their kids face. The younger kids do crafts and/or bake Halloween cookies with mom/dad and go trick or treating while the older ones(my age) go to parties and haunted houses. For most of us it’s just poking fun at scary stuff and realizing our own mortality. There are some who cross the line though.

I don’t know about the US, but here in Western Canada, yes, it’s as big as Christmas. They’ve had the decorations up in the malls for a month, every show on TV has something to do with ghosts or something spooky going on, and you can’t go into any store without passing a pumpkin display, something with skulls in it, and a rack of costumes - even if what the store sells has nothing to do with any of that stuff. I even saw Hallmark greeting cards for Hallowe’en this year. Oh, and walking into Safeway? Piles and piles and piles of “fun sized” treats for giving away at Hallowe’en. Food? Forget it - apparently we’re expected to be eating nothing but Hallowe’en candy this week - oh, wait, I found some apples under the Mars Bars. 😛

Every year I buy more and more candy. And every year I end up either darkening the door or raiding my girls’ bags for what they don’t like to give to trick or treaters.

People have gone all out for lawn and house deco. I can think of ten houses within a one mile sradius that think Halloween is like Christmas, with revolving ghosts, working vampires in caskets, and things hanging from their trees. The people across the street have three ghosts in their front window, and at night, a row of lit jack o’ lanterns. They also have ghosts on their lawn. Some people give full size candy bars or goodie bags.

I am a Halloween puritan by comparison. All we have is two lit jack o’ lanterns on Halloween proper, 😉 and the cobwebs and spider webs I haven’t swept off the house all October. I won’t spend a ton of money on costumes, opting for ponchos or capes for little kids so they can wear their winter coats. I only wear a Halloween sweatshirt when I go out with the girls.

just curious again - but are there ever abductions and kidnappings during halloween??
i mean, where i live - i think there have been…well i recall from a few yrs bak…(when it was somewhat more popular than it is today)

Where we live, kids don’t go out unsupervised. If they go out at night- and a lot go out only in daylight hours- a parent or a much older sibling is with them.

I have even seen a parent driving the car slowly while another parent gets out and escorts the kid to the door. It’s like the kid doesn’t have legs or something, although there are those who not only trick or treat in a car, but take the kid to several neighborhoods or even several suburbs. How greedy is that? They fill up their trunk with the collected loot. I can’t being to imagine what they do with a trunk full of Halloween candy.

I would guess they dress up as Ward and June Cleaver, you know something to scare their friends.😃

Like anothe poster said I would worry about the girls immodesty…My 10yo and her friends are going as vampires my friend orderd the costumes on-line and was mortified when they came in becuase they were sexy. These costumes are marketed for 8-10 year olds:mad: They have poofy skirts that barely cover my DD’s friends backside!!! seriously- I cant imagine what the teen version looks like. You might want to have a purity discussion with your son. try sexrespect.com its awesome!!!

So Chicago (in that city they tell em to vote early and vote often)
end up either darkening the door or raiding my girls’ bags for what they don’t like to give to trick or treaters.
Dang thats cold, recycle the kids Halloween candy.

Here in my little city in Alabama, door to door trick or treating is complimented by the business district closing and doing it there. Also most of the protestant churches, thinking the event is pagan, have alternative Fall Festivals.

None of those are attended by 16 year olds and adults dressed up as ghouls etc and trick or treating. I dunno what I’d do if a 25 year old guy shows up at my door “trick or treat!” I’d prolly shout, “Hey Debbie come check this out!”

But that’s just us here in Alabama. If I gotta start buyin Hallloween candy for all my neighbors I’m gonna be hacked.
