Thank you all for your prayers, they are much needed right now!
The ‘new’ nursing home/chronic care hospital that my sister was moved to, has turned out to be awful and she is very miserable. When I first went to take a look at the facilities I only saw one of the 5 wards (bit of a rush visit). This was a very large room, spacious, bright and clean with beautiful curtains and linen and had approx 10 beds on each side with lots of space between beds, making a total of about 20 beds in the ward.
It turns out that not all the wards are the same! She is in one that has 40 - 50 beds - but is the same size as the room I saw. Hard to believe they would squeeze so many chronically ill people into such a space. They have managed this by creating a partition down the middle of the room (imagine a rectangular room, divided in half lengthways), thereby creating two wards of 20 beds in each half.
There is no privacy and at a stretch you can almost touch hands with the person in the bed next to you. It is noisy and the staff have to be ''tipped" (gratuity) every time she wants something extra brought to her like a cooldrink etc.
The other poor souls in the immediate area around her, are in various mental & physical conditions that are distressing and noisy. I’m sure, like any of us, she could survive the existing conditions, but, it is the lack of genuine care and sympathy of the staff that is making her so sad and miserable.
When the social worker returns from leave I will be making a point of meeting with her to discuss all this, but will have to tread carefully. Please continue to pray for her.
HAIL HOLY QUEEN
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy
Hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve
To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then O most gracious Advocate thine eyes of mercy towards us
And after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus
O clement, O Loving, O sweet Virgin Mary
Pray for us O holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
