in the move from Mormonism to the Roman Catholic Church.

😃

This won’t be easy on her in terms of her parents and siblings, but way she tells it is:

“The more I learn about Mormonism, the more I feel like it is wrong. With Catholicism, it’s just the opposite.”

Congratuations!!! God has truy blessed you and your wife. Welcome home.😉

That is wonderful. God Bless you both on your journey home:-)

Praise God this is good news!

I shall pray for you and your wife. It is not easy converting knowing that it may very well cut herself from her family. This is difficult but this is a testament for her love of Christ and God will recognize the sacrifice she made for love of Him.

That is wonderful news. Prayers of peace for you and your wife!

**I’ll keep you both in my prayers as you travel your journey.
Welcome to you both ! **

I’ll be stunned if they shun her. That sort of thing doesn’t seem to be in their nature. But they will be disappointed.

Praise God! I would love to hear her conversion story (and yours).

Here’s a truncated version of my story:

My mom and her family were nominal Protestants who converted to Mormonism in the 1960s. My dad’s family is Mormon all the way back to 1831. Samuel Smith, the brother of Joseph Smith Jr., baptized the step father of my great, great, great, great grandfather and his sister. I am from Mormon pioneer stock. I even had an ancestor in Brigham Young’s wagon party.

In a way, I still have the spirit of the pioneers. I’m having the courage to begin a new adventure.

I was an LDS missionary 20 years ago. My move away from Mormonism began then, although I couldn’t see it at the time. I’ve always been a questioner, and Mormon apologetics was my thing for a while.

I graduated from BYU (I’m still a BYU sports fan), and went on to pursue a doctorate in the humanities. Along the way I began to apply my new scholarly skills to my own Church, its history, and its teachings. As I did so, I slowly, but surely, moved out of the Mormon mainstream. Publications for genuine LDS intellectuals replaced the slipshod apologetics, and I found that I was merely being tolerated by the corporation that is Intellectual Reserve Inc.

During my studies, I’d come to the conclusion that the LDS Church’s teaching on the Great Apostasy invalidate the LDS Church itself, and that it’s teachings in this area are ultimately flimsy and circular.

Although my belief in Mormonism was fading as I became increasingly heterodox, I found that my belief in God was secure. I had (and have) powerful, simple faith. My intellectual questions continue, and I believe they are healthy, but my belief in God is just something that is.

I found myself becoming more of a spiritual pluralist, or what intellectuals sometimes call a mystic. I searched through many religious traditions and philosophies. I’ve found much of value in my search, but I’ve been stunned at how beautiful and truthful the Catholic Church is. In a way, the good things in other beliefs and traditions seem to be pointing me to Catholicism.

I’ll try to persuade my wife to post her story too.

welcome home
this is one of the hardest conversions to make in my experience
look for ways to get involved in your new Catholic parish and for wider apostolates that invite you to bring the family values that were a shining light for you as Mormons to benefit Catholics and those we serve. we need you.

Hello Sunstone,

That is very good news that your marriage will share the same faith. 🙂 Thanks be to God.

If you’re still in SLC and are ever downtown for Mass, drop me a line so I can say hello to you and your wife.

Rebecca

They’ll be disappointed that she’s left the “true” church.
Oh indeed! The ‘true’ church? No offense to you or your wife, but apparently her parents do not understand or ignore the fact thousands of other churches all claim the same one liner. What madness!

The true church appeared in the 19th century? I did not know God hid it from the world until Mormonism?

Welcome Home Sunstone!

I am a convert from an evangelical tradition who joined The Church in 2007, and now my fiancee will be entering The Church this coming Easter!

Be strong, I was lucky my family was fairly open about my conversion, my fiancee is preparing to face her family.

Just trust in Our Lord, He has called you to Him, so be happy, everything will be okay.

I will pray for you and your wife tonight!
