Hello,

I was out of work for one week with the flu.
When I returned, there was a note tucked in front of the picture I have of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus.
The note said, "Jer 3:15 2 Tim 3:7 Luke 7:47.
at the end of this it said,
"I’m just a friend of the Lord. Good Day 🙂

In my cubicle, I have my Catholic pictures and figurines and calendar.
My husband says it’s most likely a protestant being condescending.

I have no idea who this is from, I really don’t talk to anyone here at work and if you saw my cubicle you would know I am a Catholic.

Should I just brush this off?

Thank you!

I can’t think of any advice to give, but your story is really cool, so, thanks for sharing!!! 🙂 Who knows, maybe it was from God himself or an angel? 😉

I’d brush it off. But if another one found its way on my desk, I’d write Matthew 16:18 or 1 Timothy 3:15 on a sticky note and put it on my desk. But I’m cheeky that way.

EDIT: I guess though it might also depend on what that person wrote on the next round of verses. It could be innocuous, in which case I’d pick ones I like and are innocuous. But if they started trying to poke at my Faith, then I’d pull the other two out.

If it’s a Protestant trying to “call you out” they’re not doing a very good job. None of those verses sound anti-Catholic

No idea, but not quite understanding the logic of it being condescending protestants with those three Bible quotes.

Can it be explained please?

I’m just wondering why those quotes and especially WHO put them there.

Who? Someone who loves God. A brother or sister who may have a different way of looking at things but means well. Be at peace.

Okay I just thought perhaps your husband may have looked at the quotes and decided they could be used by protestants as a way to somehow try and show that Catholics do certain things wrong.

I could not personally see how when reading them, so was wondering if anyone could enlighten me.

Ignore it if it’s a one-time event.
If it happens regularly, talk to your manager about the harassment.
I agree. @ZimBoo should keep the note to have evidence if it does turn out to be the start of harassment.

I just looked at those three verses and I don’t see anything in them that a Protestant might wish to use against the Catholic faith. On the contrary, the message seems friendly and supportive. Maybe you could leave the note where your colleague put it, and stick a Post-It on it saying “Thank you”?

Should I just brush this off?
I would say yes. In looking at the three verses, the only one which makes any sense to me in an anonymous note is 2 Tim 3:7; “always learning and never coming to the knowledge of the truth”. This is a common one, in my experience, for arrogant (especially my fellow Protestant) Christians to use in regard to other branches of the faith. But I suspect they mean well, despite the somewhat self aggrandizing sermon they felt they gave with this mini sermon.

I think a friendly thank you is indeed the best reaction. It is always better to assume good intent than malice. If malice is involved, then a thank you may still take it off guard.

Sounds like you have a stalker. Personally, if I found an anonymous note like that, containing seemingly-random Bible verses tucked under one of the pictures on my desk at work, it would make me feel uncomfortable and I would report the incident to my immediate supervisor. Best to nip it in the bud. Save the evidence, just in case.
