I found the videotaped interview provided more insight than just the text. It’s remarkable that the tools were having no effect on the layers of metal.

I also think it’s interesting (in the taped interview) that the rescue worker alludes to having received understanding in a way that he and one of his colleagues cannot explain. He indicates they are uncertain whether the understanding came directly from the priest’s intervention or not. Many Catholics would probably attribute the Spirit’s gift of understanding to the power of God provided through the grace of the sacrament of the sick the priest administered.

It seems that the man interviewed and his colleague may have experienced a kind of “inner understanding” or enlightenment through the Holy Spirit. Catholic and Protestant Christians know that the Holy Spirit sometimes pierces the darkness of our minds with a sudden, unexpected ray of understanding, especially during prayer–not necessarily all the time, and sometimes in ways that we cannot in any way attribute to ourselves. It’s impossible to explain this to those who are not open to taking a leap of faith to reach out to God–it’s something that can only be experienced.

I think the event is a significant testament to the merciful, loving power of God shared in an special way through priests, the sacraments, and the Catholic Church.
No doubt, I agree. 🙂

Well said,
You have a good understanding of the picture:) this was a Sacrament given…the girls faith initiated the grace for everyone involved. Glory be to God…Amen!

Maybe I should say “recieved” instead of “initiated”. I didnt mean she earned Grace:) for those who strain at a gnat;)

The girl was not Catholic. Can protestants receive a Sacrament they do not believe In? Perhaps a blessing with blessed oil would describe it more accurately?

How do you know she did not believe it? She believed what she was taught. Sunday, she was taught more:)

As far as I know, most Protestants only believe in Baptism and Matrimony. Do you know of some denominations that believe in other Sacraments?

Of course they believe in prayer, but other Sacraments?

According to this Canon Law text, it is permissible for a priest to administer penance, the Eucharist, and the anointing of the sick to Christians not in communion with the Church in grave circumstances, according to Canon Law 844, Section 4.

“If there is a danger of death or if, in the judgement of the diocesan Bishop or of the Episcopal Conference, there is some other grave and pressing need, Catholic ministers may lawfully administer these same sacraments to other Christians not in full communion with the Catholic Church, who cannot approach a minister of their own community and who spontaneously ask for them, provided that they demonstrate the Catholic faith in respect of these sacraments and are properly disposed.”

I have to agree with this assessment. But I still think it was Divine Providence that this priest just happened to be in this place at this time.

And for those who asked, I would think that any priest who travels on the highway would have his “kit” with oil and holy water in his car.

When the priest came to the house to give my sister the last rites, he carried a small bag with everything he needed to give her the Sacrament. Similar to a doctor’s bag, but smaller.
If the priest simply walked tthe 1/4 mile down the road to the barricade point, is it not reasonable to think that a patrol officer or traffic guard would have seen him? Like I said before, maybe he will be discovered (it’s already been 4 days) and he can explain. If not…

Thank you, daisybee.

The Church teaches that Sacraments work ex opere operato, meaning their efficacy does not depend on the merits of the priest or recipient (they depend on the power of God). We could argue whether all the conditions (Canon 844 4)for a Protestant to receive the sacrament were met or not but I believe any Bishop will stand behind the validity of the administration.

Ms. Lentz was a very fortunate young lady.

I hope that in my last moments, there will be a priest present who will administer the Rite of Extreme Unction and hear my confession.

There is no better state I can be in to met God.

Ms. Lentz had good faith. She believed and pursued what she was taught. As I said before, on Sunday, she was taught more…and she believed it.

I love this story because there are many in the denominations who have genuine faith. Even a genuine faith that many so called Catholics lack. We, who say we have the fullness, should be reaching out better. Not in apologetics (only), but in Charity. This is the Spirit of the priest, who was eager to pray WITH and FOR this child of faith.

She was involved in something called “pray out loud”…and in her hour of need, that is what she was focussing on. This Saint prayed with and for her…and blessed her.

Or maybe she just listened to a Jessica Simpson song a lot. For whatever reason, no matter who the priest was, it is an inspiring story. I just hope the girl explores Catholicism to see what she truly received.

When you’re down
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud
Just close your eyes and let it out
Take all your fears and doubts
He’s listening right now
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud, pray out loud

Everybody’s got their problems
Everybody’s got their struggles
We all need a helping hand
Sometimes, sometimes

And I think back to when
I was a little girl, my daddy said
Remember just when
You’re through this world

When you’re down
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud
Just close your eyes and let it out
Take all your fears and doubts
He’s listening right now
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud

Don’t have to face it on your own
We don’t have to be alone
Just open up your arms
And look up at the sky and pray out loud

When you’re down
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud
Just close your eyes and let it out
All your fears and doubts
He’s listening right now

Oh, when you’re down
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud
Just close your eyes and let it out
All your fears and doubts
He’s listening right now
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud

Pray out loud
Pray out loud
Don’t be afraid to pray out loud

This is getting interesting. He was wearing a silver cross around his neck - wouldn’t that make him a bishop?

He was praying the rosary using dark wooden beads. He had a strong accent. Olive skin.

I can’t wait until someone solves the mystery!! (My kids are saying it could be the late Archbishop Oscar Romero).

It doesn’t matter which way we look at it - it seems like God’s Providence and a Divine Miracle.
We should look for God in everything - in our lives and praise Him always. Richard.

Seriously, I think this is great, but…

My 2012 Chevrolet came with On-Star. If I knew a Mercedes came with an angel, I might have spent the extra money.😉
Talk about a massive upgrade 😃

I also have a feeling that they will never find this priest. This is one of those things that make the hair on our arms just stand up straight, but in a good way.
I do believe that Gods angels are here on earth watching over us.
God bless
The description I read in some news bulletin was that the priest was a middle aged man with wire rimmed glasses who looked a bit like Karl Malden.

Not unlike St. Jose Maria Escriva

hmm!the descriptions of the mysterious priest seem to differ with the news sources.

And the miracle is not very obvious either. The faithless would assert that the other rescuers were on their way already. This man merely prayed.

We know, in the mystery of the spirit world, there was much going on. Intense calm was brought to them. God, working out of time, had planned the rescue and ultimate safety of her. These men/women who help in this profession will be very encouraged in doing their job in the future.

Interesting details for sure. The cross, rosary, even holy water…right? A priest that prepared for this kinda thing would likely not just take off in such a manner. I agree with allowing privacy in the case that a real priest may not want to be exploited…but it does not look like that is the situation:)

I dont think the “Pray Out Loud” was about the Jessi song. I saw something on her facebook (or her mom’s?) mentioning it, in relation to her church. But I don’t know.

A lot of people in the news are calling the priest an angel. Some one better than an angel came, Jesus.
