someone made a statement about mystics here, that I did not understand and I don’t remember exactly what they said.
Any info?

If it is not anything they attain through any practice of the soul they do we know why they get these special gifts?more accurately, mystics are persons who attain the spiritual condition of union with God while still on Earth, or at least enter the initial stages of that state, through infused contemplation, a gift from God that cannot be forced or attained through any practice of the soul, although one can and should be always open to God’s movement within the soul. Teresa of Jesus and John of the Cross are two well known mystics whose writings are helpful for understanding that state and the spiritual journey in general.
I said infused contemplation is not a gift that can be induced by any practice (such as centering prayer, saying ohm, TM techniques etc, it is a gift from God). God normally sends this gift to those who are ready for it, on their part by conforming their outward life and interior disposition to his will through obedience ot the commandments, frequrent recourse to Mass and the sacraments, regular prayer, and Christian service. On God’s part the preparation includes his action in the soul through the graces of the sacraments, primary among them being the Eucharist, source of all sacramental grace, and through the trials he allows the soul to endure which can by physical, mental or spiritual. The Ascent of Mt Carmel describes in poetic terms the beginning of the spiritual journey and its stages, the Dark Night, also by John of the Cross, describes the latter states and approach to union with God and the place of mental prayer, and infused contemplation, in that journey. If it is not anything they attain through any practice of the soul they do we know why they get these special gifts?
