Catholics and Catholic organizations should not endorse organizations with “morally objectionable” missions, North Dakota’s bishops said, citing Amnesty International, the March of Dimes and Susan G. Komen for the Cure because of their links to abortion or unethical research.

Bishops Paul A. Zipfel of Bismarck and Samuel J. Aquila of Fargo in a March 10 statement called upon pastors, clergy and the lay faithful to be prudent and just in making their charitable decisions, particularly on issues related to human life and marriage.

By the time you’re done defining all of the groups with objectionable policies or activities, I’m guessing the only group you’re left with is the Diocesan Appeal – and even then it depends on the “orthodoxy” of the local bishop!
 
Seems like an odd group of organizations to attack. I have heard that some object to the Susan Komen organization, but my impression has always been that those concerns were overblown. No idea what the beef is with Amnesty International or the March of Dimes.

Amnesty International is a Pro-choice organisation.

Did you actually read the article or are you being willfully ignorant?
Here is “the beef” with the march of dimes.

The March of Dimes has a long history of funding IVF, Fetal tissue research, non-therapeutic forms of prenatal diagnosis directed at the search for and abortion of suspected affected pre-born children (test for Downs Syndrome so the fetus can be destroyed thus lowering the rate of birth defects) mandatory contraceptive coverage in insurance plans etc. etc…

I’ll tell you my beef with the March of Dimes.

When I was 13, all of us 8th grade girls on the cusp of puberty were marched into the public school auditorium and forced to view a film labeled as a “documentary” by the March of Dimes. Would you like to know the content of the film? Grizzly, gruesome photos of babies with birth defects. All of us girls were horrified, and we had no warning as to the content of the film, and our parents were not notified (let alone allowed to opt out) that such a film would be shown. Clearly it was a maudlin attempt to appeal for donations, using pubescent girls as salespeople.

Rather, the effect was the opposite: My mother was furious and refused to contribute to them for years. She probably never did, actually. She also called the school and let them have it about the forced film event. Worse, if that was possible, I was forced to see the film a second time that very day, in science class. By the time I got home, I was an emotional basket case. The visuals were unshakable, and the audio of the movie gave the impression that the majority of babies were born that way. :eek:

I was thoroughy traumatized and almost did not become a mother.

By the grace of God and because of a persausively loving husband, motherhood triumphed. But to this day I will not give a “dime” to that organization. That was possibly the most unprofessional, irresponsible, and unethical act by a non-profit group I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. All of us 8th grade girls were sobbing!
