Does anyone know about the NAB Saint Joseph’s Edition Bible? Is there more detail? Less? Is the print larger? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I own one, leather bound. I think that there is a bit more detail, a lot of footnotes on the bottom. No, the print isn’t larger, really. I don’t really know what size it is, but it’s definitely not under the “large print” section.

The one I have also has many pictures, specifically paintings of different scenes in the bible, as well as a couple pages of all of the Mysteries, like the Joyful Mysteries, etc. Although I’m a bit more interested in my NRSV Catholic Bible right now, the NAB Saint Joeseph edition is pretty good and is worth getting, at least it is to me.

The St. Joe has got some problematic notes. I think if you email Patrick Madrid at patrickmadrid.com he can ennumerate them for you.

OSV does, or used to, issue a large print NAB. I believe Fireside does as well, you’ll have to do a search on Amazon. The St. Joseph’s is a product of Catholic Book Publishing Co, which used to make a nice product, I have an old leather Confraternity Version with fine art by Karl Bloch and excellent binding. The stuff they put out now does not hold a candle.

The NAB I have, which is the one you’re talking about I think, has hideous, cartoon like, pictures which, I guess, the editors consider artistic. The whole thing is a poor presentation in my opinion.

There are many different “printings” of the Saint Joseph Edition of the NAB… There is a large print edition and even a giant print edition.

I am not sure what you mean by “detail”. The translation and footnotes are the same in all NABs depending on their publication/printing date. Publishers often add various “features” such as dictionaries, maps, timelines, indexes of Sunday or daily Mass readings, etc. These “features” vary by publisher and printing.

I have the Fireside NAB that has a soft cover, Giant print with the rosary imprinted on the cover. It’s a very nice edition and I would recommend it for anyone needing a larger type.
