Someone mentioned Cider House Rules…I enjoyed the book, but the movie was kind of a waste of time.
was the movie more liberal about the abortion thing?

i won’t watch anything that promotes abortion… which is why i hate TV / dont watch it… better things to do…

Any movie with broccoli in it should be banned. :bounce::yup:

The Mission… i heard that was antiCatholic…
Not at all - the Cardinal is a bad guy (and actually he’s not really bad; he’s just really stupid), but the rest of the characters - the good guys - are also Catholics.

It has a very sad ending, but it actually portrays the Church very well, and very realistically.

what is that about…?

(I’m movie-illiterate… hate modern movies because of sex & violence… )

do you think there are ANY good (as in Christian) movies made these days?? 😦
Miyazaki’s films aren’t ‘Christian’ per se, but there’s nothing offensive in them. Unfortunately he only makes one about every four years.

I also like Pixar’s efforts. Cars was a great story of humility, sacrifice, and love.

Men in Tights? A so-called comedy about Robin Hood. Ishtar was bad but funny—American lounge singers wandering in the Middle East. Manos: The Hands of Fate, classic awful 1960s horror movie.

The Cider House Rules was just… ick.

Honestly, I can’t remember. This was nine years ago. I do remember that DH and I were in Hawaii at the time, on our honeymoon…it was raining…and the movie…well, we just decided that we could surely find something more interesting to do! 😛

Not true. Check it out. It shows some problems with some cardinals in South America but also a very virtuous Cardinal and a wonderful lead (Jeremy Irons) who is martyred and a repentant fellow.

Very moving.

It may show that the Church was not %100 perfect but the take home message is excellent.

The ending is especially moving but I wont spoil it.

thanks… been looking for a good Christian movie… but i do recall hearing someone complain about something… just can’t recall what… :hmmm:

Absolutely correct! In fact, I would describe The Mission as a pro-Catholic movie because it actually and realistically portrays what was really going on in colonial South America, with priests defending the natives from slave traders and the like. Since the movie is actually based on a true story, and it told very well, I encourage people to watch it. It is on my list of favorite movies!

It stars Robert Deniro, Jeremy Irons and a very young Liam Neeson. Shot on location in the rain forests of Brazil.

Okay, worst movie:

Napoleon Dynamite

This bizarre and plotless movie has a cult following that I just do not understand. I was forced to watch this with a friend who thought it was the funniest movie ever made. Oh the agony.

Terms of Endearment
With Shirley MacLane and Debra Winger

A meandering story with no real point or plot. When this won an Academy Award, that was when I realized that that whole awards ceremony if phony and fixed.

Borat. The character was funny on the Ali G show when he did five minute segments. Same with Bruno. Stretch these characters out into two plus hours, and it wears thin pretty quickly. I wonder what people will think of Borat in fifty years.

I love how he exposed the racists though! That was classic!!

That’s about finding the Nazi enigma code box, correct? I don’t understand why movie makers distort history. It was found by the British, not the Americans. Same with THE GREAT ESCAPE. The American’s tunnel was found. It was mostly a British story.

Even though I liked the movie, I didn’t understand all the people who made it out to be some kind of a masterpiece…

Is anyone* getting ready *to soon watch one of the worst movies ever made? 😃 I am…I want to see Obsessed with Beyonce…something tells me this is going to be REEEEEAAALLLY bad. We’ll see…I like drama/thrillers.🤷

Somewhere in Time A film which elevates sappy sentimentality to the level of virtue, romanticizes severe psychotic breakdown and demonstrates that Christopher Reeve had no acting talent without millions of dollars in special effects to assist him.
My wife would have your head for this! lol…her favorite romance flick. Shhhhh…lol

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2“MY BRAIN IS BURNING!” Just great

Never even heard of it, but it sounds terrible. 😃

Actually, the British did not recover or capture the Enigma code machine. The real story is even more cool/ The mathematician that invented escaped to England and rebuilt one from memory.

Also, American and british troops did indeed capture Enigma devices during the war, hoever, they never got one in working condition, if I remember my history correctly.

For a nice history written by a contemporary, look at A Man Called Intrepid, if it is still in print.

Anyway, I actually like U-571.
