The Exorcist is a great movie for several reasons (I’ve read the book and loved it as well). First of all, Father Damien (the lead priest character) is going through a crisis of faith, thinking of leaving the Church altogether when he is called to bravery in dealing with the devil himself. When Father Karras, the elderly Exorcist who is supposed to be the master of dealing with such things dies of a heart attack in the middle of this exorcism, Father Damien is overwhelmed with personal attacks by the Devil that get into his head, deep. He fights and prays but is so overwhelmed that he decides to take the devil into himself to free the girl, sacrificing himself, falling to his death. It’s about doubt, bravery, sacrifice, and shows how flirtation with the occult (Ouiji boards, etc) can lead to serious diabolic assaults. William Peter Blatty, the author of the book, went to Georgetown and is a Catholic. He always wanted to fictionalize the story he heard about a real exorcism that was very similar. I thought the movie is great, terrifying, and in the end, edifying in the bravery of the priest. It is NOT in any way an anti-Catholic flick or a film making priests look weak.

I’m an American and I like a good laugh. I think Pee Wee was funny. You might think I’m a hick for liking My Cousin Vinny, too! LOL…Not every movie that we enjoy should be a drama like Terms of Endearment! LOL…come on distracted!

“Wait faw my bruvva, Bawon!”
“Faw he IS the Cuisinart Hatrack!”
“I WILL kill him!”
Yeah. Drugs and mysticism will save the world…

Dune is one of those movies everyone labeled as bad but I LOVED it from day one. It’s a LOVE IT or LOATHE IT kind of movie. No middle ground lol…I adored it when it came out in 84. Y’know, there were some excellent performers in that film… some Lynch stock players as well. And the art direction RULED.

its a sin to waste time… and a lot of the movies listed on this thread are (or appear to be) a total waste of time (The Mission being the one exception I’ve found.)

I hear ya. Ole’ Lynch definitely took some artistic liberties with that flick LOL…the heart plugs, “weirding modules,” baroque scenery, and making Muad’dib out to be a real messiah instead of a self-fullfilling prophet and eventually a Muhammad-style conquerer.
I hate movies where you can’t even see what’s going on! Usually, they’re fast action scenes in the dark.
Aww, come on! That was the most talked about/hyped about movie when I was in highschool!
