Violence
Natural Born Killers…for some unfathomable reason my then husband brought this home to watch. I believe he liked one of the stars (Ferrell?). It was horrible with gratuitous violence, hateful ugly dialogue and a horrible storyline. I stayed in the room about ten minutes.

Stupidity
Ed Wood… a totally incomprehensible movie about someone who made movies. My eyes glazed over after about 10 minutes.

Overbloated/Overproduced
Waterworld…what WERE they thinking. Bad story, boring, and nothing but ugliness. 1st Runner up (and I’ll probably be shot for saying so) Titanic…good grief! By the end of the movie I was hoping they’d all drown. What a bunch of unappealing characters with a completely stupid story. Tossing the gem in the ocean at the end was just a fitting tributed to the waste of resources.

on my list:

Ace Ventura / Pet Detective (didn’t see whole thing… was “forced” to watch it because i had an emergency one time & had to stay with this family one night… and they were not as “intellectual” as I… :banghead::ouch: Not being a snot just calling it as it is…) Probably the dumbest, most disgusting movie ever made…

anyhow… another one would be

Westworld!! awful movie… no “moral” to the story whatsoever… either that or i missed it… but i doubt I missed much… violent &… un-realistic… waste o’time… The idea was intriguing but … I thought of about 20 ways they could have made it interesting… too bad they didn’t consult me before releasing it… 😃 So why did i watch it… hmm… I’d get pounced if i answered that one… so … uh… I’m taking the cowardly way out… suffice it to say (and isn’t this the excuse that always works anyhow??? Namely: “i am human”…

Just goes to prove Purgatory… i.e: God punishes us even for being human… 😃

I’m trying to think of a 3rd worthless movie… but haven’t watched any new ones… or even old ones… that are totally worthless… (in a long time).

That’s easy - tying for first place:

  • Signs
  • The Da Vinci Code
  • Alien vs. Predator
If “Manos - The Hands of Doom” is as bad as is said, it must be extra-terrestrially frightful; because those are the worst films ever; “Plan 9 from Outer Space” is ten times better than either or both, because Ed Wood, whatever his other failings, could at least tell a story. But “Signs” is jugular-slittingly dire. As for TDVC, it’s a trainwreck; to watch it should be assigned as a penance for Lent. “Alien vs. Predator” is disgusting in every way; that is all that need be said about it.

George Lucas’ stuff is poor (very) - but at least one can pretend one is watching a rehearsal for “Space 99” (a fine TV series better in every way than that Roddenberry material people rave about). With those two films, even that small mercy is not to be had.

I gather that “Ishtar” is said to be bad - but I haven’t seen it. “The Vikings” does at least - despite its anachronisms - have a story to tell.

Rocky Horror Picture Show…It’s possibly one of my absolute favorite movies…but it is terrible and a complete “Guilty pleasure.” Tim Curry in fishnets? Awesome yet horrifying. lol

Birth, I got through the first ten minutes of it, then I was done.

Ed Wood… a totally incomprehensible movie about someone who made movies. My eyes glazed over after about 10 minutes.
I couldn’t disagree more. “Ed Wood” was a labor of love about a real person (Ed Wood) who had confidence in then-‘washed-up’ Bela Lugosi, after Hollywood had given up on him. (So, there’s a definite Christian theme to the story right up front.) It’s also an inspiring story about doing what you love, regardless of what other people may think - not to mention the injustice some of those real people faced in later years (e.g., Vampira, whose ‘Addams Family’-level image and likeness was hijacked in the 1980’s by the sleazier Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.) I don’t think it was “incomprehensible” at all. I was absorbed and compelled from the first frame and it never fails to inspire me any time I watch it.

Hey we’re all the world’s greatest expert on our own opinion. I certainly do not begrudge you, yours. I thought Ed Wood was agonizingly slow and incredibly boring. I sat through it (was on a date trying to be polite or I would have ditched it after the first 20b minutes) but I’d rather watch paint dry. I’m glad someone liked it, truly

What did you think of Titanic?

Lisa A

“The Bear” (circa 1990). So incredibly boring. Only thing more boring was the book.

I know what words I want to use and do so intentionally so please do not tell me what I should say or should call it.

I don’t believe pro choice is simply pro abortion so I would not call it that. Choice is part of the gift of free will so I cannot take that from somebody, I can only provide them with all the information that can help them make the right decision.

I know this is a Catholic forum and what the general opinion is, but there are sometimes non Catholic visitors and not everyone has the same opinion - I respect that people have that right granted to them

But that wasn’t even the point of my previous post, it was about the movie and the characters etc, this is a forum about movies!!!

Just because I watched and enjoyed this movie as a whole does not mean that I am pro abortion - that’s like saying I am pro war because I like saving private ryan!
Atrocities happen in life, and poems and songs and books and films are written about them, it presents a viewpoint to examine and either embrace or reject
Pro-abortion is pro ABORTION.

The murdered baby has no ‘choice.’ There is no spin, no whitewash, no downgrading of what it is: infanticide.

The war of words is very real.

Satan is real. I will not collaborate with his lies.

It’s like you read three words of a post and begin to sound off… you aren’t having a conversation, you are just throwing nonsense sentences at me.

And I AGREE that the baby has no choice and it is not their fault they were created and I AGREE that how they were created is no excuse for them to die
I am not pro-abortion so you don’t have to keep throwing these statements out. As I said before it’s not even the point of my previous posts. :banghead:

You will never change a persons mind by speaking to them like a fanatic. Put your opinion there, tell me exactly WHAT you disagree with and WHY and I will happily listen.

I will go toe-to-toe with anyone who insists on calling infanticide ‘pro-choice,’ and I stand by every word.

Bextah, free will does not include a “pass” to break God’s commandments. Yes you (in that I mean society) can take certain choices away if that choice means a evil act is taking place. You probably wouldn’t think stopping the murder of a child or adult would be interfering with the murder’s “free choice” would you? Pro choice is pro-murder–by saying there is choice in the matter of the murder of an innocent child during its first nine months of life then you assent to murder.

I truly don’t think you believe in allowing a murder to take place under the guise of free will. I just don’t think you’ve really done the introspection necessary to go beyond that old tired excuse…“Well I wouldn’t have an abortion but I don’t think I should take this right away from others.” You know this was the same excuse used by those who tolerated slavery. It is my belief that someday we will look back on abortion the way we view slavery. As a horrible practice that was allowed because people didn’t want to interfere with “choice.”

At any rate to get back to the thread, in promoting Cider House Rules or any other film that advocates an abomination, you in effect promote society’s tolerance of abortion. There are many films, concerts etc that I will not attend because I will not put money in the pockets of those who promote something so against our faith. No matter how artistic, no matter how beautiful the stars, no matter how well filmed, this movie portrays an abomination as acceptable. I would never defend such a movie.

Amen. It was a vile film. People can wrap trash in a pretty ribbon, but it does not change the fact that it’s trash.

And as for bextah:

I take exception to the way language is being used fast and loose to DISTANCE the ugliness of infanticide from the act itself. ‘Choice’ means anything and nothing. Abortion means only one thing.

Pro-choice is actually worse than pro-abortion, because at least the pro-abortionist sees all human beings as equal (all are worthless unless they benefit the almighty ME in some way) but the pro-choice viewpoint is “I would never kill my child, but it’s okay for you to kill your child - your child doesn’t quite have the same level of human dignity that my child has.”

That’s the attitude that I perceive behind the idea of “pro-choice.”

Referring to the post in general, but the part I put in bold specifically, that is simply one of the most intellectually vacuous posts in have seen on this forum. I suppose you would not want to stop a rapist or a murderer but rather just give them information so that they can make a better decision as to whether to rape that woman or murder than store clerk, right? Call murder a “choice” is just sick. Sadly, it is a sickness that is widespread. It is also conspiring with evil. I do not care how you want to justify it, any person who refers to abortion as “choice” is commuting an act of grave evil by dismissing the value of the life that is being killed.

Cider House Rules was absolutely a propaganda piece which promoted the murder of innocents. The movie is inherently morally offensive and there can be no justification in supporting it. Calling it “art” is a lie. Besides, morally offensive “art” is still morally offensive.

Now that we have established that bextah position is not morally justifiable and that the movie in question promotes a grave evil, it is time to get back to the topic of this thread.

One of the worst movies I ever had to sit through was Napoleon Dynamite. Oh my goodness, the movie had not theme, no story line, no point nothing. Sure there were some funny scene, but that was 87 minutes I have lost forever.

In the early 80’s a local tv station used to play variious vampire/ monster type movies.

I remember watching something called “Frankenstein created woman”. This homely girl is teased and verbally abused by the villagers. She has a secret lover who kills one of her tormentors. He is then executed.

The homely girl, at the news of her lover’s execution, comits suicide. Dr. Frankenstein then puts the lover’s soul into the homely girl’s body. He also operates on the homely girl, transforming her into a bombshell. She then gets revenge on the villagers who were so mean to her.

I only saw this once, about about 25-26 years ago. Pretty bad.

Another awful film is called, “Nightmare in Badham county” about a woman’s prison and Robert Reed (Mr. Brady) as the corrupt warden. Bad.

Passion of the Christ - based off unapproved revelations, most of the money went to a “church”
The Matrix sequels - made no sense, too much fetish material
We’re Back - it’s basically Big Lipped Alligator Moment: The Movie

Umm… Anne Katherine Emmerich’s writings, based on her visions and recorded by her secretary, have been approved as personal revelations by the Church. Her books carry an Imprimateur. As for the money, I have not heard that and even if it is true. Even if the the things you sad are true, they fall into the “So what” category and have no bearing on story or production qualities.

I can’t believe the judgemental nature of people in this forum.
Of course I would want to stop a murderer or rapist from doing the horrible acts they do - you don’t think that there is a series of events that lead to the act?

A young girl that I know was brutally murdered, beaten to death at a party last month, the day before her 18th birthday. Her name was Kertisha. I did not have a choice for this beautiful girl to die, and if I could change the mind set of the murderer, if I knew he was capable of this kind of act, I would do what I could to change him.

But I could never force him to stop could I? It was still his choice to take her life. It is very painful, but it was still a choice he made and that does not mean I condone it. So don’t you dare presume I condone the evil of murder or abortion just because I understand that God gave us all free will.

And by not judging a person and giving out the right information I was able to save at least two children from abortion, so I know I am doing my best to do the right thing. Every single person on this Earth has a choice, you need to accept that. Then you can focus on helping people to be educated to make the right choices.

How about - I understand that you make your own decisions - but here are a thousand reasons that this is a horrible terrible thing to do, and for every single reason you have for doing this, I will give you five reasons to refute it. 🤷

However I understand that in the secular community pro choice does equate to pro abortion on the larger scale abhorrent but a reality.
