Has anyone named their Guardian Angel? I read in a book about Mother Angelica that she talks to her Guardian Angel and names him “Fidelis” for “Faithful”. I thought this was a great idea and named mine “Opus” for “work”. A Guardian Angel is frequently forgotten about in today’s world, and I am so grateful for the often thankless work my angel does for me. I, a sinner, am so beyond the worthiness of having such a glorious protector, that I have to thank God’s Divine Mercy for the privelege. So, I was just wondering, does anyone else have a name for their angel?

I call mine Gabrella. I have a tattoo of her on my right forearm.

Hmmmm…

I think I shall call mine “Mahalo”,… because I too feel utterly unworthy to have such a magnificent being on my side, and “thanks” (gratitude) seems like a nifty and appropriate name.

…And I’d “invoke” him rather often having that name!

Thanks, mahalo, for the idea…! 🙂

Mahalo ke Akua…!
E pili mau na pomaikai ia oe. Aloha nui.

Bill. He’s been Bill since I was three years old. I’m going to feel really stupid when I die and find out he has some magnificent name, or even better, just a letter.

I wonder if anyone has ever asked the Holy Spirit to reveal their angels name? I may just ask and wait patiently for the answer, could be interesting;)

There is a “little t” tradition that if you ask your angel his/her name right before you go to sleep, the first name that comes into your mind when you wake is it. I’ve never tried it, so I can’t say if or how it works.

Peace,
Linda

That is funny because I have not names mine for I know that he has a great name that I don’t want to botch up. But my daughter 9 has decided to name hers recently and my son 6 has always called his ghost since he could talk.

I have known since I was a child that the name of my guardian angel is Raphael. Oddly (or awesomely) enough, I come to find out after I converted that my Guardian Angel is in Scripture! Just one of a thousand things God used to direct me to the True Church. :signofcross: When I was a protestant we had no concept really of guardian angels as such…just a hodgepodge of angels who did things for us, not an angel who stayed by our side. :doh2: But I knew I had a protector (and he has worked overtime through the years :blessyou: ) and no one could tell me different - it was revealed to me through prayer. I still neglect to thank him, and forget that he is there - until something happens that only he (Or God directly) could do for me (I have come to recognize such things…remember the overtime thing?) then I say thank-you. So - thank-you for the thread…I will remember for a time again that my protector is near. :extrahappy:

Peace

John

I’d rather hear a name than invent one. 😉 Besides, what if it’s a lady name and I fall in love? 😛

My GA has a name…but I usually just say: My guardian dear. Works for me. 😃

Thanks for the responses! When I read that about Mother Angelica, I just thought it’d be a great idea. I know that a guardian angel doesn’t really need a name, and except for those whose have been revealed I couldn’t give them a correct name (just a nickname, I guess). In my Protestant background, we never talked much about Guardian Angels. And, even after a few years of Catholicism I never thought about mine much, but recently I’ve been thinking about how incredibly loving God is to give us an ANGEL! We don’t deserve to be served by such a being! I just hope that one day, after I die, I’ll be able to see mine and thank him (for want of a better term) face to face.

God’s mercy is truly amazing.

or a girl 😛 😃 :rotfl: 😉

I’ve often thought of naming mine so I’ll have to try that “little t” tradition thing! 👍

I was given a prayer to learn the name of your Guardian Angel. I’m sure your angel would love you to give them a name, but it’s also kind of neat to ask them to see if they’ll tell you.

Repeat the prayer for nine consecutive days, in honor of your guardian angel, and the nine choirs of angels (the Seraphs, Cherubs, Thrones, Dominations, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels)
O my Guardian Angel, in whom I trust, I thank you for staying by my side throughout all the difficult times of my life. You have taken upon yourself the task God has assigned you with relish and fervor - never slack in your duties - always anxious to bring me closer to God. You’ve never abandoned me in my loneliness, and you’ve never turned away from me, except for the times of my life that I have pushed you away through my sin. But although my sinful life has placed you in deep sorrow, you never gave up the hope that I would return back to my heavenly family, and back into your loving and guiding arms.
I beg of you, dear Angel, that you come into my heart and guide me more fully and completely onto the path my Father has chosen for me - for us. I ask you to carry my prayers to the throne of God, and to plead mercy for me there, for you behold the face of our Lord everyday. I invite you to pray with me every day and to intercede for me to the Saints in heaven (especially my patron saint __________.) But most of all, I beg you to come to my aid in times of distress. Hear my plea, dear Angel, to share with me, not only the bad times, but also the joyful and happy times of my life. For since my birth, you have been assigned to me while I am on this earth, through Purgatory, and finally to lead me face-to-face with my Father in heaven.
We have come far together, dear Angel. And yet, we have far to go. I beg of you, my angel, to make yourself known to me in a special way. Let me know that I am not alone on this path that I must travel. I wish to thank you for all you’ve done, for all the help you’ve given me, and for all the grace from our Father that you’ve pleaded for in my behalf. You’ve worked so hard and yet get no appreciation. You are truly a model of humility for me. Teach me your ways, O Angel. Teach me the ways of our father. Light my way in times of darkness. Guide my feet, my hands, my mouth, my heart. Help me to see what is apparently not there and to hear that which cannot be heard with the ears.
(On the ninth day, end this prayer with the following petition: )
And now, dear Angel, I ask one more thing of you. If I am to call upon you for aid, by what name shall I call you? Please come into my heart and make known to me your name…
(The first name to come into your mind is your angel’s name.)
I thought that was kinda neat-o! I’m waiting till I’m confirmed this Pentacost Sunday and have a patron saint before I’ll start the novena to my angel.

Wow! I’ve never heard about that. That’s a beautiful prayer!

An update on me. When I named my Guardian Angel “Opus”, I kind of liked it but it never really felt exactly right (Maybe because I kept thinking of the penguin in Bloom County cartoons). However, this past Sunday our priest was doing a homily in which he mentioned the three levels of love in the Greek language: the lowest form, “Eros”, the next highest form “Philia”, and the highest, which Jesus had, “Agapee” (sp?). As soon as he said that word, I immediately knew that was my Angel’s name, at least to me. It immediately made an impression on me. I think it was confirmed later that day when I had a minor accident on my motorcycle where I could easily have gotten seriously hurt, but made away with only a few scratches and not so much as a dent on the bike. I think my Angel was pleased and I thanked him and God the Father for not having gotten hurt.

Congratulations on your upcoming Confirmation! May the Holy Spirit descend on you in a special way so that the rest of your life He may be your special Spiritual Guide.:clapping:
