Nancy Pelosi mistates the Church's position

I happened to catch a little of Fr. Mitch Pacwa on the radio (Threshold of Hope…I think), and he was talking about this controversy.

He said that St. Augustine’s concern with the ensoulment of an unborn child had to do with the punishment of someone who had an abortion…in other words, it was still a grave sin at any stage, but the penance would be different after ensoulment.

Before ensoulment = 10 years of penance
After ensoulment = lifetime of penance

I just heard the most heartbreaking story about a nurse who worked in an abortion mill—something snapped in her and she retrieved one of the babies that had been thrown into a bin to die (the person who told me the story said something about a Downs Syndrome baby), and held it for 45 minutes until it finally expired. That she said something like, “I wanted to offer what comfort I could.”

Sorry that I can’t attribute—just a story someone told me over the weekend.

:crying:
For your information, the nurse’s name was Jill Stanek, and she was relating this story to Illinois State Senator Barack Obama. He was unmoved by this story and continued on with his fight in the State Legislature to let such born-alive infants die rather make any effort to save them. Utterly disgusting!

I know that fact well—but reminders to all do not hurt in the least. Nor does it hurt to state again that one of the DNC’s OFFICIAL PLANKS is the right to murder an unborn baby.

aaFrom the sound of this their platform is also** to murder the newborn. **

They hate the president so much that they don’t care that millions of babies are destroyed. That even babies who survive a botched abortion are left to die. Its all about hope and change. Germany once wanted hope and change and they got it as well. And millions died because of it.

With people like Pelosi leading the party who lie about the Church, I hang my head in shame, when they are not held to account. Its even more distressing when others seem to not care, yet if she was protestant the stuff would hit the fan. I guess only Catholics (IMHO in name only) in Politics can say lies about the church, and get away with it.
A very dear friend of mine has said exactly what you stated. He hates two individuals so much that abortion is not enough to stop him from voting for the other two individuals. (boy its hard to say something without using names or parties)

How very sad! Someone would pick a candidate who will vote for killing babies just because they don’t like someone! We need to storm Heaven with prayers and The Rosary.

Its irritating. I should have said Catholics in name only as you edited. My mistake. I would say the Catholics that run for office and are pro-abortion know about as much about the catholic faith as a monkey. THey were born into it and baptised and that is about it. Which is unfortunate.

In my days of teaching CCD it was commented that many are innoculated with the Faith. They received just enough training to make them resistant to getting it. I fear that was true of many of our programs. 😦

We must realize that some people put their self interest before the sanctity of life and we must pray that they become Christ centered rather than world centered. Rationalizing a vote contrary to clear,
unambiguous fundamental teaching is not a person wishing to take up the cross of Christ in defense of life.

Pray, PRAY, PRAY for a change of heart and take up the crusade of those that have had their voice taken away. :gopray2: :gopray2:

A very reasoned and forceful response. It appears he is going to speak with her personally and then decide whether she can continue to receive communion. Given we are in the political season I doubt he will issue any findings until after the November election.

I saw it as forceful tap dancing. He could easily access Madame Speaker or direct her to the DC bishop for counseling.

I’m obviously not a fan of the archbishop. I remember him vaguely as an associate from my childhood parish. I wasn’t impressed then, I’m still not. He’s known Madame Speaker, her voting record and public statements for many years. He acknowledges the bishops’ guidelines from 2004. Yet he somehow manages to allow four years to lag before he finally comes to an epiphany,"… I conclude that it is my responsibility as Archbishop to discern and decide, prayerfully, how best to approach this question as it may arise in the Archdiocese of San Francisco."

I see with the archdiocese of SF the same secularism that has seduced so many places across the US. It’s hard to be a good shepard when it means not being on the A list.

She has been out spoken and supportive of abortion for 28 years. So how much longer can this Bishop allow Mrs Pelosi to continue on her march away from Holy Mother church? What happens if she were to die before she came back into true union with Holy Mother Church? The time is now not later.

It may be her Meet the Press appearance was the tipping point as far as her bishop is concerned. As far as we know they are carrying on a dialogue as we speak. If we don’t see some action by the end of November I will join you in your disappointment.

I’ve been disappointed since the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence incident…can anyone tell me what the archbishop has done to correct MHRC? Are they still welcoming the GL community with such religiously inspired events as the drag queen contest from a week before the now infamous Communion video broke.

I know it’s off topic to this thread, but it is germane as I feel very doubtful that any action will take place. The archbishop, I believe is going to do the same thing as he did at MHRC–wait out the storm and hope the faithful forget…
