This is very good. But was this posted in any secular newspapers, or did CNN or FOX SHOW this on their news channels? That is whereit really needs to be.
Today’s Washington Post has an article (p.3) about the bishops’ response, excerpt below:

washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/26/AR2008082603215.html

Washington Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl and several other U.S. bishops are disputing statements by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a “Meet the Press” appearance about the Catholic Church’s teachings on abortion. They say she misrepresented the church’s longstanding opposition to the procedure and twisted some church teachings.

But Wuerl and the other bishops swiftly responded, saying that the church has opposed abortion since the first century.

“Abortion is evil,” Wuerl said in an interview yesterday. “It’s the destruction of a human life . . . this teaching has not changed and remains unchanged.”

(Actually I think Wuerl’s comments probably “echoed” Chaput’s)

(The above is the Post’s way of pooh-poohing the scandal; I suspect they’ve got that wrong. The thing that forced some of these bishops to speak is her presenting herself the way she did, and I agree with others who’ve said that means Biden is not going to get a free ride from the clergy.)

For conservative Catholic groups, the fact that Wuerl weighed in on the controversy was welcome news.

He angered some conservatives for refusing to discipline Pelosi and other pro-abortion rights politicians after they received Communion at the Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI in the District in April. Wuerl has said that he believes those decisions should be made by the politicians’ own bishops.

“We’re very, very encouraged by his statements” on Pelosi, said Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, a Catholic organization opposed to abortion that is based in Stafford. “He is her shepherd when she is in Washington, and for him to speak out that way is very meaningful for all of us.”

Better late than never.

Wow !!! Praise God - He still is in charge of the Roman Catholic Church. We must pray that this incident bears great fruit among Roman Catholics.

I get up this morning turn on 990AM WDEO-AM Ave Maria Radio, Teresa Tomeo’s show and she starts talking about all the Archbishops, Cardinals, and Bishops making statements - specific, no holds barred about what we as Roman Catholics believe.

Then I go to my email and I find a reply to an email I sent to Archbishop Chaput. I sent him an email at the suggestion of a previous reply.

Thank you for the posts. Anyone know if the wave of emails to the clergy had any effect on the Bishops finally speaking clearly,
accurately about this issue ?

Pray for God’s mercy, for the sake of un-born children and the
salvation of so many souls.

Not to boast but the finally is the email I sent to Archbishop Chaput and his reply.

Your Eminence:

Thank you for being faithful in your love of God and the Roman Catholic Church. May God guide and enlighten you to do His will and shepherd the flock He has placed in your care. May St Michael the Archangel be at

your side in the fight,

Would that all the ordained would speak the truth in love as you do.

Regards and Praise of God for you,

Just a note, that is not a secretary that responded for Archbishop Chaput either. He answers all of his email personally! Make sure you heed his request and pray for him! Our bishops need our prayers, now more than ever.

I found this while reading a blog this morning…
catholic-sf.org/FPArticle14.htm
The Archdiocese of San Francisco received hundreds of e-mails from around the country, many urging that the Church correct Pelosi. A “horrified” Bill Kelly of Carolina Shores, N.C., wrote: “Since she spoke as a Catholic will there be any action taken by the Archdiocese to refute her?” Archbishop George Niederauer will address recent comments by Pelosi in a column in the Sept. 5 issue of Catholic San Francisco, archdiocesan spokesman Maurice Healy said.
I have a couple of thoughts on that:
  1. Why is the Archbishop waiting to put it in an article Sept. 5th, when he could put a letter up on the website right now?
  2. I pray he is very clear in his statement correcting Speaker Pelosi and perhaps (I certainly don’t want to get my hopes up) instructs her on the obligations she has as a Catholic politician.

Hopefully he is waiting because he has contacted Nancy Pelosi and is trying to resolve this in private.

Pelosi, Biden, Kerry and Kennedy are an embarassment to Catholics everywhere. They don’t follow the teachings of the Church and they are out in the public saying they are Catholics. These are the people that Catholic Church needs to be upset with not the Protestants.

For those of you who are interested, the archbishop of San Francisco, Most Rev. George H. Niederauer’s unlisted email address seems to be archbishop@sfarchdiocese.org.

I am certain it is unlisted for a reason.
You’d think that if the Archbishop of the SF Archdiocese went to the trouble of getting an unlisted email, that he would think of something more original than archbishop@sfarchdiocese.org😃 That’s kind of funny…

A private correction to the Speaker doesn’t address the problem of misinformation about the Church she is spreading publicly.

Daddums 🙂

I agree - she needs to make a public correction and admit she was wrong. But I don’t think pigs are ready to fly just yet…

I agree! The misinformation that she has spouted has to be addressed publicly so that Catholics know that what she said is not Catholic teaching!

Why do I get the feeling she is trying to set up a confrontation by getting herself excommunicated publicly? It is one of the few things that would explain her actions.

Nor do I think that Pelosi is really concerned with setting things right!

The beautiful thing about Pelosi is even after the Church has come out and said she is inccorect she has said she stands by her statement. WOW! That says alot about her character. It says that she can not admit to being wrong and obviously knows little about humility. That is not the kind of leadership we need. But it seems to be the kind of leadership that is running the Senate, and possibly could end up running the White House.

I don’t think she even considered excommunication, she thinks she is right and can get away with it . She has so far she is still allowed to recieve communion even though she is very openly for Abortion!

What I find so scary is that this woman is two heart beats away from the presidency and is considered by those in her party to be a paragon of leadership. Sooo Scary. Lord, please , please help us.
Prayers & blessings
Deacon Ed B
Scarier than that. You have her leading the House, Reid leading the Senate, maybe a filibuster-proof majority by the abortion party, a 5-4 proabortion majority in the Supreme Court and maybe NARAL’s 100% favorable guy in the White House.

Not good, Ed.

This woman is sufficiently full of herself that I think even if she was excommunicated, she would continue to present herself for Communion and, if denied by a priest, would raise a big stink against the Church over it.

Actually I believe she is already ex-communicated. The rules say that anyone who cooperates in procuring an abortion is automatically ex-communicated. She has cooperated by making the statements she has, which will influence others to procure an abortion.

That may be (I will not speculate on that). But to get the full effect, a public declaration is needed.
