An article in NEWSWEEK states that roughly a third of American births are to single mothers. So much for family values!

While GWB is promoting his snake oil remedies for getting rich by privatizing Social Security and bringing democracy to the Muslim world, the breakdown of the family gets benign neglect.

This is a problem that isn’t going away. It is associated with poverty, school drop-out and going to jail.

Why are irresponsible fathers running the streets unpunished?

So are you saying this is all GW’s fault? Wow! Talk about having the weight of the world on your shoulder’s! It’s not enough that he wants to make abortion illegal and is fighting against ESC research. Who cares if he wants to protect the sanctity of marriage? Forget about the fact that he’s pro-life and ethical and leading by example, unafraid of what the liberal freaks say about him! Let’s hold him personally accountable for the fornication in America! I’ll bring the tar if you’ve got the feathers!😉

I was thinking the same thing. According to the left, GW is to blame for everything no matter if it happened before he became President. Their hate has blinded them so much that reality is totally foreign to them.

If women want to excercise power, here is an area to do it! Have you ever seen the play in which the Greek women withold sex to get the men to stop the war and come home? It is a farse, but…a grain of truth there, as in most comedy.

I think it was Abe Lincoln who said something to the affect that people will treat you about as good or poorly as you let them.

We only do good for ourselves, our families, our children and the world when we use sexuality wisely. I hope more women will see this, and teach their children as well. If we respect ourselves, and our children (present and future) enough to demand committment from good men…that is what we are likely to get.

You are free to respectfully and charitably disagree with the policies of out elected President, but do not disparange him, or any other elected official on these forums, as it is a violation of Rule 7 of the Rule of Conduct that you agreed to when you signed up to post here.
 
FYI - When President Bush was Governor Bush the state of Texas launched and active campaign of holding irresponsible fathers accountable.

The AG’s office of Texas is extremely active still in this area. If a mother applies for any state assistance, she must name the father, or possible father, and that person will be forced to take a paternity test and cough up the money for support, whether the mother wants to pursue it or not. They have set up a permanent presence in our court house and are regularly having fathers tossed into to jail for unwillingness to pay child support.
 
I think GWB is supporting abstainance only education. This should reduce on single pregnancies since pretty much all of them are a result of failed contraception.

Because the Democrats stand for Abortion, Denial of Information to Parents for Minors Abortions, Euthanasia, Sodomy, Homosexual Marriages - do you want me to continue? You wonder why President Bush has a hard time dealing with the issue? Have you paid any attention to the fiflbuster in Conrgress by the Democrats to any judge who believes in Parental Rights, Family Rights, and any sense of morality?

You seem to forget that privitization of Social Security was first proposed under the Clinton administration by the Democrats.

and you obviously have made no study whatsoever of the social and political structures of Islamic countries, or you would begin to understand why democracy might be important in that area. What - you don’t like democracy? You are free to leave; try Saudi Arabia, for starters.

Like the others here, I fail to see how this rests on the shoulders of our president, and I feel he has quite a battle with terrorism, aid to Africa, abstinance campaigns, Supreme court nomination, Pro-life policy, and he has been a good, devoted father. He promoted some strong policies which hold deadbeat dads accountable in Texas.

you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think you are over simplifying this issue, possibly because you are upset by other issues in the Bush admin. so are looking for even more things to be angry about.

Ideally, all children would have a mother and a father. Still I would rather support an unwed mother than for another unborn baby to be killed and thrown out with medical waste, like garbage. Women deserve better than abortion, even teenagers.

Safe Sex is a myth. All forms of birth control, even condoms, are not 100% effective, so that means the people who use them are exposing themselves to sexually transmitted disease and pregnancy 100% of the time.
 
Aren’t deadbeat dad laws decided on the state level? The policies you want are not made on the federal level. If you would like to see something changed within your state you must first contact your state government. You can request that your Congressman or Congresswoman write and propose a deadbeat dad bill before Congress. If you are really fired up and motivated about helping to form a deadbeat dad policy get busy and hire a lawyer to help you write a bill and go lobby Congress. It might take years but this is how federal law is made. You can form or join a grassroots campaign, it isn’t as simple as the president standing up and saying “Hey America, starting today all dads must be present in their children’s lives and pay child support!” Sure, he could propose a bill, but just like you he would need both the house and senate to vote it into law and the courts to interpret the law, and then citizens to comply with the law, and be punished if they break the law.

Also, our representatives, both on the state and federal level, hear bills all the time, they can only handle so many issues at a time and it is more complicated than you many realize. You can probably do a little search to find out if there are any deadbeat dad bills before your state government or at the federal level. You might be able to find a bandwagon to jump on and live out your American right to lobby your representatives.

apparently you can help hunt down deadbeats yourself. Do a search you can find all kinds of websites and ways to help.

As Hillary Clinton said in her book, “It takes a village” one man can’t do it all.

Our nation is in many ways governed by its celebrities. If something is good enough for a movie star or singer or athlete, then it tends to be regarded as good enough for the rest of us.

Celebs made illegitimacy fashionable. But most of us don’t have millions of dollars and and army of nannies and maids to help raise our kids the way celebs do.

Also, I remember 30 years ago when cohabitation before marriage was considered scandalous in “good” families. Now it’s regarded as odd if you don’t shack up first. And in all but a few quarters, it’s regarded as abnormal for people to be virgins past a certain age.

Even amongst many “religious” folk there exists the magical thinking that if a young person decides to renounce his or her sexually active past, he or she can obtain a “second virginity.” But the genie can’t be put back into the bottle once it’s been loosed.

So as long as we live in a society with no shame, where sex is a morally indifferent act, sexual behavior will get looser and looser, illegitimate birth rates and abortion rates will rise, a young woman will continue to pick one man to be her “baby daddy” and either raise the kids alone or find another man to settle down with.

I believe things are only going to get worse in this area.

If s/he specifically referenced Senator Clinton, then yes this would apply.

Rather than take on the whole problem, attack where you are at. I have no idea if you are male or female but IF you are a female, pic well. Make sure the man you choose is honorable and not a deadbeat. Use use your sexuality wisely, too many people give it away to whom ever rather than a husband or spouse.

If you are guy, act honorably and love your wife the way Jesus loves the Church. That should keep you our of trouble.

If you do these things you will influence the people around you which is far more powerful and sustaining than any legislation. If we are to take back our society from despair it starts with US.
