That paper didn’t claim or even hint that species alive today came into existence 300 million years ago and no newspaper article changes that fact.
Hi Tim,
As I read it, in the number of newspaper reports I posted that the species alive today came into existence 300 million years ago.
This is from the Live Science site that I referenced – they’re showing the photo of an actual “modern beetle”. The caption says:
*An endangered tiger beetle from North America’s east coast.
Scientists believe it and most modern beetles appeared about 300 million years ago. *
That’s pretty simple. Scientists believe** it **… appeared about 300 years ago. The same beetle that is pictured, “pre-dates” the dinosaur.
Modern beetles, “evolved early” into thousands of species.
Scientists do not understand how this happened.
“
Today’s plethora of beetle species were thought to have blossomed 140 million years ago, during the rise of flowering plants.”
Evolutionists are claiming that the diversity of 350,000 beetle species are due to the many different flowering plants in their environment.

But this is also said to be incorrect.
"It was the six-legged insect’s ability to adapt that has seen it safely through the last 300m years, according to a new scientific study."
If the beetle couldn’t adapt it would have either evolved into something else (supposedly) or it would be extinct. Thus, its ability has
seen it safely through the last 300m years.
Again, that’s very clear. The insect has survived 300m years.
New research hints that
modern-day versions of the insects are far older than any tyrannosaur that trod the Earth.

Again, modern day beetles are older than dinosaurs. The modern day versions are the beetles we see today. They are the same as the beetles that were around before the dinosaurs. That’s what the story says.
Here’s an atheist evolutionist site:
shalinisehkar.com/2007/12/according-to-new-study-modern-beetles.html
“Previously, modern beetles were thought to have appeared in the fossil record 140 million years ago. Now, a new study published in the journal Science pushes their appearance back to 300 million years ago. This study shows that
modern beetles apparently predate the dinosaurs by about 70 million years.”
The site owner, an atheist-evolutionist does not dispute the story. The comment box does not dispute the story. These are people who actually believe in evolution. They accept what it says – “modern day beetles” – those are the beetles you can find crawling around today – “predate the dinosaurs”.
Again, that’s very clear. Today’s beetles are the same as they were 300 m years ago. This is not disputed on an atheist-evolutionist site.
One comment did say this:
**So, the authors discarded the idea of beetle evolucionary [sic] radiation after the explosion of flowering plants in the Early Cretaceous. **
Again, evolutionists thought that 350,000 species of beetles “evolved” rapidly because many flowering plants “evolved” also. But now, they say that’s not quite right.
Here’s the atheist toolbox site – atheist evolutionists.

They quote the story:
"Today’s plethora of beetle species were thought to have blossomed 140 million years ago, during the rise of flowering plants. But the new study of beetle DNA and fossils, published in the Dec. 21 issue of the journal Science, pushes their appearance back to 300 million years ago. "
Nobody on the site disputes this.
The Ars Technica site:
arstechnica.com/journals/science.ars/2007/12/24/beetles-here-for-the-long-haul
Beetles represent nearly 350,000 distinct species of animals, and account for 25% of life on Earth. Why this is so has been debated by scientists for decades, but no clear answers have emerged.
Modern beetles have existed on this planet since the time of the dinosaurs, and previously, their survival and diversification was attributed to them being herbivores and to the rise of flowering plants in the Cretaceous era.
Again, very clear. Modern beetles - those living today – have existed on the planet (the same beetles existed) since the time of the dinosaurs.
The same beetles – in 300m years, they haven’t gotten any smarter. Their brains are the same size. They didn’t get any fur or better teeth or bigger legs – they’re the same. Mysteriously, they “evolved rapidly” into 350,000 species, then they stayed the same for the last 300 million years.
