This year, in the General Calendar, the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart will be omitted to give way for the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist on June 24 (Saturday).

Our Diocese has released a circular already that the Mass to be used on the 24th (for both Morning and Evening Masses) is that of the Solemnity. They have also decreed that the Sunday obligation can be fulfilled by attending the evening Mass of that day.

The question is: In those places where the Immaculate Heart of Mary is the titular or its co-patroness, and is celebrated as a Solemnity, will they omit their celebration this year ?

Our church celebrated the titular feast on Sat the 10th.

According to the General Instructions of the Liturgy of the Hours, the solemnity of a saint on the General Calendar (in this case Saint John the Baptist) takes precedence over the solemnity of a titular or patron.

If two coincide, the one that has precedence is celebrated, and the impeded solemnity is transferred to the nearest suitable day that is not otherwise impeded.

This is why I believe that the celebration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary should be upgraded from a Memorial to a Feast.

It would not have helped in this case. Saturday is a solemnity on the General Calendar and it would have bumped the Immaculate Heart of Mary just the same if it was a feast.

And to continue this thought, let no one suggest that the Immaculate Heart be upgraded to a solemnity on the general calendar. The world will come to a swift end when the two Solemnities clash, as this has never happened before (they would both fall under I.3 in the Table of Precedence).

Has the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and The nativity of John the Baptist ever end up on the same day?

Undoubtedly. And it will again, in 2022. In that case, the Sacred Heart will take precedence and St John the Baptist will move to the next unimpressed day.

Solemnities of the Lord are higher in precedence than Solemnities of the saints.

Right after I posted I thought that would be the case. A Solemnity of OUR Lord would comefirst/. So It might just mean another Fiday the Sacred Heart and then John the Baptist moved to the next day on Saturday

We had Feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus yesterday. Nativity of John the Baptist today, Saturday.
