oh dear…it is not hard to clean at all…unless you are burning things in it:)
we have stainless steel pots - love love love them. will never buy anything else, and they are an absolute breeze to clean up.

What do you all think of brown eggs bought directly from a local farm? My hubby wants to also buy our meat from a local farmer as well. But I’m nervous that these products aren’t government inspected and maybe it’s a dangerous move. Also, how do I know for sure if they are organic products?

we buy farm fresh eggs and meat and they are so great! I bielieve that government inspection means very little as their standards are quite low. so of the folks on here can probably give you some good web sights to check out. I’ve got a bunch of friends down here that I’ve gotten all my information from and I go by a providers reputation in the community before I look at any government standards. but that’s just me and that is probably not enough for some people.

anyone on here have some good web sights about organic meats and the like?

My dh & I have just started a vegetarian diet, mostly because he was just diagnosed with lymphoma. (Please Pray) I’m having trouble with lack of protein, so if anyone has any good ways to add protein, please let me know. Thank you.

Peace,
Linda
I will keep you in my prayers. My advice is to do some research. Conventional medicine and even alternative medicine sometimes pushes us into the direction of a vegetarian diet, but this may do more harm than good. Your body needs essential nutrients found only in animal foods, not just protein, by the way. Saturated fats and cholesterol are necessary for good health. My advice if you have to remain vegetarian is take cod liver oil daily and use lots of dairy and eggs. The cod liver oil is more effective if combined with butterfat. Coconut oil, like cod liver oil, is also considered a superfood and is helpful for many diseases, but a good overall diet is necessary for any of these things to work. Completely rid your diet of trans fats, MSG, white flour and sugar and other such things. Lymphoma can be caused by refined white flour and other refined grains. It is highly doubtful that it is caused by meat and animal foods, unless perhaps those foods are not organic. When I say organic, I don’t necessarily mean certified by the feds; I mean real foods straight from the farm, or your own garden. Amish and Mennonite farmers are great; just avoid the white flour and sugar, which they are known for! God’s blessings on you!

www.realmilk.com

I found an Amish community there that I now get all of my dairy, eggs and meat and such from, as well as some vegetables when they are in season. The web site is mainly about obtaining raw milk, but there is a list where you can look up where you live and find farmers or co-ops or cow shares in your area. Often you can get meat and eggs as well as milk. If you are doubtful about the quality, simply ask the farmers some questions. Animals should be pasture fed. This is more important than anything else. Free range is not sufficient b/c all it means is that the doors of the barn are opened for a short time, but all the food (soy and corn junk–unnatural food for these animals) is inside the barn, so the animals typically do not go outside much. You want pasture fed animals (cows, chickens, pigs, turkeys, and fish should be wild caught, not farmed). Animals do best when they are left to find their own food, really. Usually government inspections or certified organic products are sadly not as trustworthy as an assuring word from the farmer himself.

About the cookware, I personally see nothing wrong with cast iron, but if there is a problem, there are such things as enamel coated cast iron pots that do not leach as much or any iron into the food. Target is actually selling an enamel coated cast iron Dutch oven right now for 39.99!! I just bought one. Everywhere else they seem to be well into the hundreds.

Can anyone tell me what is stainless steel? Is is just natural steel? Or is it treated in some way to make it stainless? How is it that it is so easy to clean? Do you season it?

I’m not sure if any of you read Dr. Mercola, but in one of his recent newsletters, he sent out some information about antartic pure krill oil, proven apparently to have much more omega-3 absorption power and an abundance of antioxidants.

I would really like to order some of this, but I’m finding difficulty in ascertaining whether it’s appropriate with other medications I am taking for health issues which are too serious to be managed naturally. My doctor tends to be very by the book and not very into supplements–I’m looking for a more alternative health friendly physician, but that’s besides the point–is there a source online that is like drugs.com and allows you to check reactivity between pharma drugs and natural supplements? Drugs.com DOES have some listed in it’s database but neptune krill oil isn’t there yet. 🙂 I take omega-3 fish oils and obviously that’s fine, but those are much less potent then the Krill oil. I’ll be seeing my doctor soon and wanted to be able to take some print-out evidence when I ask if this is an appropriate supplement for me.

Here’s a link that discuses the antartic krill oil in depth:

I love my All-Clad, Maria. I picked up a few pieces, over time, at TJ Maxx. They are heavy, but they cook so well and stay hot. I love my fry pan , 3 qt covered pot, and 8 qt soup pot.

Thanks for bringing up this topic - it has been on my mind alot. Just this week I have made my first purchases of canola oil, organic milk and ground flax seed, and I purchased walnuts instead of pecans. I’m looking for O3s and trying to eliminate some bad stuff.

I’ll be referring to this thread as I continue to switch over slowly, but surely…
