^^^THISIt needs to be put to you bluntly: stop considering all of these “non-denominational” Churches.
Wish I could “like” this 100 times. Really there’s nothing else to say here except just stop.
^^^THISIt needs to be put to you bluntly: stop considering all of these “non-denominational” Churches.
I think I probably learned my lesson, but to clarify, I haven’t gone to or considered going to “all of these non denominational churches.” I went to one ND church. It needs to be put to you bluntly: stop considering all of these “non-denominational” Churches.
Is it safe to say that this pastor is wrong in his teachings?A quick and oversimplified view, but there you go. I’d say stay away from these people and work on deepening your understanding of the teaching of the Church and her history.
I have never, not once, ever heard a Catholic priest say one negative thing about protestants.
You should try my wife’s parish sometime. One homily that stood out most to us was where he said he didn’t understand why Catholic “girls” don’t always go for Catholic “boys”. Catholic boys will respect women where the others won’t. These others only see women as being there for their entertainment. Since I’m not Catholic I guess I fall into the “other” category, which was very awkward for my wife and three boys hear said about their Dad.Neither have I.
I’ll echo the sentiment of others…retrospect, maybe I should’ve stood up and walked out. There were several of us there with Catholic backgrounds.
This is the same snotty guy I tried talking with a long time ago and he seemed to be kind of jerky then, too.
As saint paul says in 1 Corinthians 11; I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions just as I handed them on to you.Well, I took that class at the Non Denominational church I’d been considering. The lead pastor, whom I’d describe as a showman, had a lot of rude comments about the Catholic Church, all the while trying to make it sound like he wasn’t against the Church.
Some people on CARM said that. They would more than likely say they are demons. That’s what I was always taught before I converted.
Well, I’d say probably no, but he says he is. Btw, when he was being snotty before, it was during an email conversation about evolution. The question is: Is this ND church and he the kind of pastor that will do everything that he possibly can to help you reach heaven and spend eternity with Christ?
I went there to learn more about the Protestant side of things but all they want to do is fight and avoid answering questions.Stay off of CARM. It’s anti-Catholic and will only cause you more confusion and upset.
Hope,Well, I took that class at the Non Denominational church I’d been considering. The lead pastor, whom I’d describe as a showman, had a lot of rude comments about the Catholic Church, all the while trying to make it sound like he wasn’t against the Church.
The bible? He was saying that there’s “very few things the CC got right;” “none (or maybe some) of the stuff the CC teaches is in the Bible, they just made it up out of thin air;” “Catholics lied since the 1300’s and its in writings”…among other things. He said that you can ask priests things, (challenge him) to find stuff the Church teaches in the Bible and it’s just not in there.
Short answer, the Catholic Church was there in the beginning, instituted by Christ Himself…I’ve learned a LOT here, much of what’s is in direct opposition to what this pastor said. How do we know our teachings, traditions etc. are correct?
He didn’t invent the church. It’s been in our community since the 60’s or 70’s.Hope,
a present day showman’s attempt to invent his own church shouldn’t even be considered.
Hope1960:
I wish I had the nerve and education to be able to debate him, but it’s probably best to just not talk to him anymore. The bible?
If he gave even a modicum of effort, he’d see that the “bible” came about by the Catholic Church.
Ask the showman,
The NT was written in, by, & for, the Catholic Church. Yep that’s right. All the writers of the NT were already in the Church they were building and writing to.
- who gave us the list of books that make up the bible? Who gave us the index?
- which book in the bible says that it is scripture?
- which book says it is the “bible” that is the only source of truth?
- Bible isn’t even mentioned in the bible. That is in it’s original language
- His father in faith, as a protestant, is the heretic Luther. Who gave Luther the authority to remove 7 OT books from the canon ? He also wanted to remove 4 NT books as well.
Hope, to be fair to yourself, you really should not base “the Protestant side of things” on the experience you have had at only one church…and a non-denominational one at that. There is much more to the Protestant side of things than what you have described.LumineDiei:![]()

I’m just being honest about my experiences at that church and CARM. Sorry if I came off as snotty myself.Hope, to be fair to yourself, you really should not base “the Protestant side of things” on the experience you have had at only one church…and a non-denominational one at that. You have been making fairly snide judgements about your experience…which makes me question if your own sincerity exceeds that of those you are castigating or not.
