As Provincial Superior Father Tyson is also a university fellow and a member of the university’s board of trustees. Apparently the board of trustees does not believe that it is the responsibility of the university president to help make this so-called Catholic university a light of Christ to the world. According to the university’s by-laws, the university president must be a priest. Apparently the board of trustees also does not believe that is the responsibility of a priest to uphold Catholic values if he happens to be leading a Catholic university.

Unsurpising. College admins hire and promote other college admins. If the fruit of the tree is corrupt, then it is no surprise that its roots and branches are the same or worse.

To Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. (University of Notre Dame President), Mr. Richard C. Notebaert (Chairman, University of Notre Dame Board of Trustees), and Rev. David T. Tyson, C.S.C. (Holy Cross Priests Provincial Superior and member of the Board of Trustees):

If you continue to refuse to pull the invitation to President Obama, and if you still intend to honor this “enemy-in-chief of life in the womb” with an honorary law degree, then, I fully endorse the suggestion by Mr. Voris, who states: “…Notre Dame should take down its crucifixes, its statues, tear down the basilica, and once and for all stop sending alumni like me and others sappy fundraising letters appealing to the campus’s Catholicism when they deny that very faith before the whole world…”
