NEA Conservative Caucus to Bolt Union
By Steve Jordahl

The National Education Association’s Conservative Educators Caucus, tired of having their voice within the union ignored, is looking to leave the NEA and join a different association. The caucus could take thousands of disaffected teachers and even entire districts with them. Brian, who asked that we not use his last name, is one of those eager to leave. He is a veteran teacher of 27 years.

“What I don’t like is really quite simple. President Hillary? It just gives me the shivers. If they’re going to be involved in politics, they should ask me to be involved. But they’re not asking. They want me to pay my dues and be quiet at this point.”

One of the members of the NEA’s Conservative Educators Caucus, who also asked not to be identified, says her group might follow Brian’s example.

“Quite a few of us are discouraged about the future of putting forth a lot more effort along those lines and we’re looking at alternatives like the Association of American Educators and Christian Educators Association.”

Gary Beckner is the Executive Chairman of the Association of American Educators. He says thousands of teachers a year have already contacted his organization, including some from the caucus.

“We’ve met with a few of their caucus leaders just so they would know who the AAE is as compared to the unions.”

Our source in the conservative caucus says they are no longer actively seeking members and anyone who chooses to stay will have to stand alone if they’re going to speak up.

HECK YES!

There is an inverse relationship between teachers’ unions and students learning: the more of one means less of the other.

What took the Cons so long to wake up?

Good for them.

I wish them well. Sad that the NEA has de-evolved into the pro-leftist organization it is now. At the rate they are going, soon they will be as irrelevant a force poltically as the Democrat Party to whom they donate so much of their member’s dues to.

Now all we have to do is wake the slumbering Cons in the Republican Party who’re being taken for a SERIOUS ride towards more and more and more Leviathan-like government, from federal intrusion into local school boards to MASSIVE handouts to notorious panderers like the AARP.

STARVE THE POLITICIANS.

C’mon Cons, come on home.

I wonder if they will be able to offer the same kind of services as other unions.

Here in Texas - many teachers (myself included) join teachers unions soley for the liability insurance that comes with union membership.

Here we can agree. Praying for wisdom in their choices.

When the teacher unions started in public schools they had good reason to unionize. Bad pay, no insurance or security and poor education for the children. The unions did wonders and were a good thing for the teachers and the children.

IMHO it seems that the unions have evolved from public good to ME ME ME and forgot the children.

Yes, I have teaching experience in the Church School Systems. When the unions took over I and many others left the teaching of others children to homeschooling our own children. I felt that my teaching was part of my service to the church and knew that my pay would be lower then the public schools. Now that the Catholic Schools are trying to keep up with the “public” schools in our area many parents have been out priced from Catholic Schools.

My brother is teaching in a major city and he has refused to join the union. He stated many times that the union does no good and only harms educational goals.

I have to agree. I am a Special Education Teacher in San Antonio. I can’t tell how many times we are threatened with lawsuites. Many of us feel compelled to join a union for the liability insurance. Otherwise I wouldn’t go near any of them.

Adonis, the liability question is a real one.

Here’s the answer.

Best thing you can do is resign, in my opinion.

I think my use of the word “compelled” was not the best choice. I meant, due to the liability the Spec Ed teachers face, we feel it necessary to join a union, due to the liability insurance they provide. We are not forced to join a union.

Thank you for the link though. Do you know of any company that provides Liability Insurance for educators?

Resigning is not always an option that we want to take. Yet, as I have seen over and over if it is what GOD would have us do other doors open for us.
