My doctor said I needed to do something before they could do the exam. I started by praying and then did it, then I disregarded my prayer and sinned. So since then I have been giving up little fasting (one I’m not very good at not doing but I’m trying, the others I have been stead-fast in fasting.), and not receiving communion until I go to confession. However, in the Act of Contrition we say “I firmly resolve to sin no more and avoid the near occasion of sin.” But I need to do the thing the doctor told me and that would put me in “near occasion of sin” so I feel like if I go to confession and pray that prayer I’d be lying because I’m not avoiding the near occasion! I DO NOT plan to sin again, but doing what the doctor told me will put me in temptation. I think I only need to do it a few more times before I go to the doctor again.
I did it two more times to see if I could do better at it and not sin. I prayed the entire time and did not sin. But then the second time while praying, I realized I was starting to sin! but as soon as I realized it I changed my situation so I wouldn’t sin and went back to praying as well. I still feel horrible.
So what am I supposed to do about going to confession and the “avoiding the near occasion of sin”?
I haven’t gone to confession yet because I don’t know what to do and I hadn’t had time to come post til now, and time’s running out to go before Christmas and I would like to receive absolution before Christmas so I can receive communion.

Thanks

female.
I know what I have to do is okay because the intent is medical. I’m worried about all the rest of it in my post, particularly feeling like I’m lying saying that I’m going to avoid the near occasion of sin.

No it doesn’t.
I know, that’s why i put “priest” in the title because I know priests do sometimes respond to online things. I was just embarrassed to ask in person.

thanks will the two that’s tagged just private message me when they see the tag or do i private message them? (sorry I don’t frequent this site often so i’m still new)

Sounds like maybe your question has to do with the doctor having you commit some impure thoughts or actions for medical reasons?

Priests can definitely help you. I will pray that you find clarity it whatever the issue is and I pray for your healing as well. Know that Jesus understands your struggles and His mercy is always avaialable in Confession! Do not be afraid to go to Confession over and over again after each medical session if need be, the mercy is always there

so what is the doctor telling you to do that will put you in temptation?

bokbok?

okay (name removed by moderator) how do i private message? because when i clicked their name and clicked “message” i think it ended up being public on their page. so i flagged it to be removed. I have read the “read guidelines” but doesn’t have instructions on how to use the site it just has the rules.

nevermind chicken_pigeon helped me about private messaging. thank you all

Go to CONFESSION and explain to the priest what is going on and what your doctor advised you to do! The priest will give you wise counsel of how to deal with it!

Don Ruggero doesn’t accept private messages. I have no idea about a Fr. Edward George

I think this is too vague for anyone to give any meaningful advice other than for you to talk to your pastor.

Voluntary near occasions not involuntary. When necessary, then there is the assumption that the stress of unavoidable circumstances has imposed this unhappy situation.

Baltimore Catechism
Q. 774. How many kinds of occasions of sin are there?
A. There are four kinds of occasions of sin:
1. Near occasions, through which we always fall;
2. Remote occasions, through which we sometimes fall;
3. Voluntary occasions or those we can avoid; and
4. Involuntary occasions or those we cannot avoid.
A person who lives in a near and voluntary occasion of sin need not expect forgiveness while he continues in that state.

VICO: yes that is exactly what I was stressing about. You got the point. Thank you for posting that from the Catechism, it helped.
Roseeurekaross: thank you for that info about Don. I didn’t know that, but it’s okay everything is resolved now.
DeniseNY: thank you yes I did go and I am now absolved and at peace 🙂

It seems clear from your question that whatever the doctor wants you to do is very personal. I recommend you discuss this with a priest who is best placed to advise you and with whom you can be quite frank.

If you feel embarrassed, which is quite natural, remember the priest cannot repeat what you have told him in the confessional so your confidence will remain private. You will also be amazed at what the priest gets to hear so he will not be phased by what you ask.

Should you feel unable to ask your own priest/regular confessor go somewhere else. You remain anonymous in the confessional and you could go to a priest you never have to go to again.
