I know they are using Christmas to make their point, and it is getting their voice heard. It doesn’t help, however, to speak of Stalin or what/who they supposedly admire. It shouldn’t be an ‘us vs them’ conflict.
But it will be…because there’s enough in each “camp” if you will, who actually want to sharpen their blades, misrepresent each others view, and argue until they are blue in the face about things.
Its on those days my faith in humanity tends to drop like a rock.
If i may offer a small critique of “my side” if you will though -
as a person who has devoted his personal and professional life to teaching science and the utilization of Empiricism as the guiding principle…i find it so odd that my own “fellows” make recourse to a number of
apriori statements about religious people…
…Whatever happened to you know… Observation… Judging a Person by the Content of their Actions…you know…
EMPIRICISM…
But i guess it can’t be helped, regardless if one is religious or not, the need to “reify” an abstract concept like a “Christian” or an “atheist” instead of actually addressing the Individual is too strong.
And what both groups do to fill those abstractions, it almost a golden rule in my mind at this point.
When its something bad, it must be an aberration to my religion/philosophical belief/etc. When it something is good, it must be indicative.
Of course, the ironic thing is they only judge each other on the aberration they come across. There must be some sort of mental filtering process…
This very board is proof of that - whether its an inter-religious dispute or otherwise.
