I’ve been invited to attend a retreat and would really like to go. The thing is, that it’s probably run by members of the controversial movement I mentioned in my thread “Priest in a Cult?” forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=209500&highlight=priests+cult

I followed the advice given there and wrote an email to the Bishop. He replied by assuring me “that the priests are in good standing in the Archdiocese” and suggested I speak with the Pastor.

Well they’re leaving in two days for this retreat and I don’t really know if I should go or not. This website misionvirgendelpozo.org/advertencia.html (in spanish) talks about this movement and tells others not to participate in retreats sponsered by them.

I really feel I need some rest from the world but I don’t know if it would be wrong for me to attend. If I go, I’ll make sure to be on the lookout for any suspicions and I plan to talk to one of my parish’s priests about this soon, or one of the nuns. I’ve met the sisters and they seem like great people but with all this, I’m not sure what to think or whether or not I should get involved.

If you’re stressed about this situation, you certainly won’t have a relaxing retreat. Can you find another retreat to attend?

Given all your apprehensions and misgivings will the retreat really accomplish a spiritual purpose for you? Might be better to find another one.

I do think I’ll have a relaxing retreat and I really don’t think I can find one like this (3 day retreat), actually this is my first one like this. I just wonder if it would be wrong for me to attend considering their situation.

Is it possible that you feel compelled to attend this retreat so that you can respond to those who have a negative opinion about the sponsors?

Is the purpose of the retreat something that you can benefit from spiritually?

There are many people who would say don’t do this or that, but I think I’d trust my Bishop (at least give him the benefit of the doubt) over people I don’t know that post on a web site that does not appear to be sponsored by the Church or any affiliation (unless I missed something).

Your bishop has assured you that the priests are in good standing. Go if you want to go.

If there is some other reason you don’t want to go, fine. Just be honest w/ yourself about why you are or are not going.

Don’t blame an order for not going if the bishop has assured you the order is OK.

He did not say the order is ok, just the priests. It’s the order I’m worried about. I really do want to go for spiritual reasons because I don’t know how much longer I can take this world:banghead:, but with God all things are possible:)

Dear Canary47 I am sure you were back at home now from the retreat. I have a link here that talks about stuff that were done during retreat on some of our Catholic retreat make no mistake though not all Catholic retreat. Anyway what I read came as a shock to me but anyway you can look at this site to be more prepared next time before you go to a retreat not just Catholic retreat but also other kind of retreat. This link may not covered everything but it may came in handy one day to you or others. Anyway here is the link spiritbattleforsouls.org/id27.html

If you could get the name of their diocese, you could get contact information for it from the Official Catholic Directory which could be at local parish or library (or probably that diocese has a webpage) and you could call or email. I would expect that the diocese where they live would have authoritative information, having first hand information. However, I would consider what your own bishop said pretty safe, because his chancery office probably consulted this directory to see if they are listed there. Unfortunately though priests supposedly in good standing can be dissenters, and like you I would like to check first before going on a retreat.

Youi might want to remember that just because someone posts their personal opinion on the Internet, that does not mean that their opinion is based on fact. You are getting yourself into a real spin over the issue.

By now, you have either gone or not gone. But in the future, just because someone says that this group or that are thus and so, does not sustain the facts of their statement. Just because something is written doesn’t make it factual. It could be; or it could just be some loony-tune’s take on their own special non-reality.
