A little background, I live with my brother whom is a fallen away Catholic and now professes the SDA faith. Yesterday he was making some coffee from Starbucks and asked me if I wanted some, my reply was no thank you, I do not support gay marriage. Which immediately casued him to take out the race card. And I told him that the homosexual agenda is not a civil matter. Because we are latino, he attempted to equivocate that buying Calvin Klein is equal to supporting racial discrimination to buying Starbucks and supporting gay marriage. Then he proceded to saying that basically all sin is equal. I told him that there are different degrees and severities of sin and all sin is not equal. But I was wondering if there is anything that I can read, listen etc to get more ammo to in order to defend the Churches position that you may recommend. Honestly, I am more aptly prepared for scriptural apologetics and a little lacking on the moral apologetics.
You’re both acting crazy. Drink or don’t drink whatever you like. Wear or don’t wear whatever. Who cares? Live right, love each other, and you will both be better off. Don’t come on here looking for a stick to hit your brother with. Instead pray for all that’s best and right for him WITHOUT specifying. Just LOVE him and let God take care of everything else. We’re not in charge. God is.

First of all, I want to acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their opinion…after all, this is the internet. I realize that this means is a very impersonal way of knowing someone, because we cannot know how the other person behind the screen really is, we can’t hear tones, etc. I know that to some I may have came off as confrontational, or more recently, crazy; I’m not offended by these remarks.

My brother and I didnt come to blows or were yelling at each other as some may beleive. This was just an honest debate where both of us were sharing our views. Now, I probably have came off as confrontational, and I will admit that this is my fault by the way I worded my initial post. But, what ever happened to having an honest reasonable debate of different opposing views for issues that may be important for those who are involved in said debate?

I myself feel that it is important to not fund something or someone which I know are funding ntrinsic evils, which oppose Church treaching. I know others on and off the forum feel the same as well, others may be indifferent and not care. I acknowledge that it is extremely difficult to cut yourself off complete from corporations who support those intrinsic evils, and start growing your own food and making your own clothes…heck, if you are able to do that then more power to you! Most of us aren’t able to do so. Now are there other choices to one brand or corporation to another, sure there are. For example, I loved going to Olive Garden when we got one in my area, but once I learned that they the parent company funded abortion I decided not to go there anymore. Of course, this is my perogative and I do not force anyone else to follow my example.

I am not holy, we are all called to holiness and this is what I strive for. I am nothing but a person who is full of faults and sin. I am not perfect, I am far from it; but I do ask God to be made more like Him everyday.

Yeah, I think some users read too much into the situation. Clearly, none of us was there and we do not know what is missing from the story. You might very well have been mild-mannered while your brother was mad. What you are looking for is not judgment, but information. I hope that somewhere in the replies, you obtained some.

Your wording of your initial post indeed seemed confrontational and that is why I saw you as such. Perhaps you weren’t, and your brother was; or perhaps neither of you were (as you say). I was going on “confrontational” based on what you said in your initial post, and I apologize if I was “jumping the gun.”

As po18guy said, I hope you received your answer throughout the replies you have. God bless.
