Need Help Finding Bible

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, wasn’t really sure where it should go…

Anyway, I’m saw a bible while hanging out with a friend a couple weekends ago, and it was the ‘perfect’ bible. It already belonged to someone, so I copied down the ISBN, hoping to locate it via the internet and purchase a copy…

…however, its not working. The ISBN isn’t coming up anywhere…

So I was wondering if any of you have seen this print of the bible, and if you know where I can find a copy…?

Its a burgundy color, appeared to be bound of a soft leather like material. Its a King James version, and is ‘large print’. It also has some really beautiful celtic knotwork around the edges. It’s a fairly small bible, though I ont have measurements. I think its about half the size of the regular ones…

I think you could find a better version than the King James. It would be hard not to.
 
You copied down the ISBNs incorrectly.

Could it be this bible?

Just curious as to why a “Catholic” would want a KJV Bible? Unless its to study the other side of the coin.

Well unfortuneatly, I’m not into ‘Bible Fashion’ and therefore have no way to know what’s ‘in’ nowadays…

I’m pretty sure I copied them down correctly…I’m beginning to think its not made anymore…I’ll just have to check when I go back next week…

Its definitley VERY similar…I came across it earlier…but I dont think its a KJ version…

shrug My mum was a catholic (raised me catholic) and the very first ‘adult’ bible she ever got me was a KJ version. I’ve also heard that its the most ‘poetic’ of the different versions and that the psalms in it are really beautiful…

It wasn’t until a month or so ago (when my dad tried to get me to buy a Genova Bible) that I realized there a Christian=specefic bibles…

So I’m assuming te KJ version is a protestant bible? That means its missing books right?

So then what’s the ‘catholic’ bible?
 
If you are a Catholic and are looking for a good and very orthodox translation with the older “more poetic” language, I would recommend the Douay-Rheims Bible. It hasn’t had any books removed from the Old Testament like the current King James version has.

Also this New Testament is good for personal study and commentary, and uses more contemporary language, it has commentary by Scott Hahn. I highly recommend it 👍

Very similar to the KJV, has all the books, and it is very well made and very attractive, and it has an antiquated feel to it. You would love it. Double ribbon markers too which is a big plus.

Yeah, Loretto is awesome. I have that bible. I bought it from a Catholic book store. I really like it. I alternate between that and the Ignatius RSV.

Loretto also has some other cool books like The Raccolta and Blessed Be God, which I heard about on here. I have the Raccolta and will probably eventually get BBG. They are old school prayer books that have some mind blowing prayer in them.

Im a younger guy (28) and new to Catholicism, but in reading into and getting some of these older, pre-Vatican II books, you really find a wealth of faith building material.

Anyhow, you can get the KJV with the Apocrypha (the missing books) but I rather like the Douay Rheims much better personally. This one sold by Loretto is very solid too, very well made.

Neither the 10 digit nor the 13 digit number you gave are correct ISBNs. See here for an ISBN checker.
 
Is what a Bible looks like all thats important to you , or what it actually says inside? The King James is not Catholic.

…so I’m assuming that ‘Complete Without Apocrypha’ means those books aren’t included?

that’s annoying. I really kind like the look and size of the HCSB celtic bible…but I really dont want to get a bible without the Apocrypha…

Do the D-R bibles have a soft-bound version? I can’t find any on the Loretta site…

When released, this will be one of the best Catholic study Bibles out there. The Navarre Study Bible is great, but VERY expensive for the complete version. The Haydock Douay-Rheims contains a great commentary from the 1800s, but is hard to find for under $100.

At the bookstore today I put a Baronius DR in my hands…let me tell you…I was blown away.

Now, in the four years of being a Christian, I have purchased well over a dozen bibles of all shapes, sizes, and translations. I do enjoy the DR. Its right at the top of the list. My favorite for years had been the NASB. Now that I am joining the Catholic Church, these bibles are inadequate in some ways, so I purchased the NAB, then the RSV, and finally a DR from Loreto.

This Baronius was at a level of quality that I simply havent seen. The pages, the binding, the cover, the type, the maps…everything. It even just “felt” solid. But it was another $54. Since becoming Catholic I have easily spent $300-500 on books, prayer, LOTH, Missals, Rosaries, and whatever else.

I bought the Baronius, but I said to myself that this is the last bible I will ever buy. You are all witness 😃

It will be the last one I ever need to buy. Its that good.
