I need passages that show that faith can be weak.

I need passages that show that faith grows.

THANK YOU!!!

The curing of the epilectic boy in Matthew 17:14-20 sounds pretty good. After Jesus cured the boy, his disciples asked why they had failed:

20] He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, `Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”

It speaks of little (or weak) faith. Also suggests the growth of faith when comparing it with a mustard seed.

[Mark 9:24] Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

Jim, do you own a Douay-Rheims Bible or a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

Lk. 8:24-25: " They came and woke him saying, ““Master, master, we are perishing!”” He awakened, rebuked the wind and the waves, and they subsided and there was a calm. Then he asked them, ““WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?””…👍

Here’s two contrasting scriptures regarding faith:

Mt. 14:30-31: "But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, ““Lord, save me!”” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, ““O you of little faith, why did you doubt?””

Mt. 8:8,10: "The centurion said in reply, ""Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed…“Amen, I say to you in no one in Isreal have I found such faith”

I think we can see the absence of doubt and also the complete trust shown by the centurion.

THANKS!!!

Douay-Rheims Bible-- no

or a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church–yes, and I have studied two three times, from cover to cover!!!

WHY?

I could use more passages, if possible!!!

Romans 14: 1

Welcome anyone who is weak in Faith, but not for disputes over opinions.

5The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5 RSV)

15We do not boast beyond limit, in other men’s labors; but our hope is that as your faith increases, our field among you may be greatly enlarged, 16so that we may preach the gospel in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in another’s field. (2 Corinthians 10:15-16 RSV)

3We are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, as is fitting, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. (2 Thessalonians 1:3 RSV)

Her are some scriptures about faith.Ro.12:3,Ro.10:17(faith comes by hearing).Ga.5:6,He.11.Sir.2:10 says,Study the generations long past and understand;has anyone hoped in the Lord and been disappointed?Has anyone persevered in his fear and been forsaken?has anyone called upon him and been rebuffed?I love the story of Eleazar in 2Macc.6:18-31.A great example of courage, virture, integrity and “faith”.🙂

Hi Jim,

I hope these verses help some: (From the Douay-Rheims Version)

Minister your faith:
2Pe 1:5 And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue: And in virtue, knowledge: 6 And in knowledge, abstinence: and in abstinence, patience: and in patience, godliness: 7 And in godliness, love of brotherhood: and in love of brotherhood, charity. 8 For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Without effort (prayer, virtue, piety, knowledge…) our faith weakens and we can be fooled or even fall away:
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit manifestly saith that in the last times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to spirits of error and doctrines of devils,
2Ti 2:18 Who have erred from the truth, saying that the resurrection is past already, and have ***subverted the faith of some. ***

Your faith must be held firm and guarded:
Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that hath promised):
2Ti 4:7 I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: ***I have kept the faith. ***

These are a few, there are more I could offer, but I thought these would make the point without getting too long in a post. I hope and pray this is what you were looking for.

With love,
George
